Looks like it was earlier this week - I was getting wet at wast water. Great video Henry and awesome shot with the light. Plan to go there this week and hope I get something half as good.
First of all,Henry and Nigel, I love your videos. Great stuff guys. As I was watching this video, I knew I had seen a video from Nigel on the same location (July 26, 2020). Beautiful work guys...so enjoyable and educational. I wish I would still live in The Netherlands and would be able to hop over once in a while to the other side of the small pond to explore places like this.....
All three photos were absolutely amazing! I could almost feel wind and light rain hitting my face. I think the middle photo was my favorite. Loved the heather and those wispy clouds.
Of the last two, the first one is my favorite. It seems more balanced and overall just more appealing to me. I love that you are willing to go out in weather like this (and even vlog!) when many would not.
Even though the weather was pretty bad last week you didn’t look like you were suffering too much for your art Henry. In fact you perfectly illustrated that there is no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes. 😂 You have to be in it to win it and you WON it Henry, the second to last image was my personal favourite very moody, just fantastic considering the conditions.
When it comes to landscape and woodland photography vlogging, these videos must be some of the most unpretentious I’ve seen. So refreshing, also giving me wanderlust for the Lake District.
I love the enthusiasm in such horrible conditions I can relate so much to it! I think it’s a thing with us landscape photographers because no one else ever wants to come out with me on days like this... great photos mate!
Since you ask, Henry, I was absolutely blown away by the first of the two photos. To my entirely untrained, amateur eye it has a superb balance, with the foreground complementing the background perfectly.
Hi Henry, that spot is becoming popular with you professionals. The wife and I prefer the first shot with the light coming in from the right. We’re heading to the Lake District next week from South Wales and the wife has just said “I’m not trudging up there in the rain just so you can get a photograph like Nigel and Henry!” Ha! Keep them coming whatever the weather!
Thanks for setting the example- don’t be afraid to get out in the elements, often leads to the best images. Of the final images, I prefer the first- in the second one the foreground felt a bit cluttered and I didn’t like how the bush was cramped into the lower right corner. the first image had more space to breathe
The one before the last was absutely amazing. The pink heather, leading line of that wall and then that liht comming from the right is absutely phenomenal! Another great video. Ive been watching your channel for about half a year now and i can realy sde your images improving. It is so fun to watch how you discover, learn and tale us all woth you on yhat jurney! Grt guido
Beaut photos of the heather!...I live in the Derbyshire Peak District and see so many over saturated pictures of the countryside with positive comments that it makes me cringe!...yours make a refreshing change....love them....
The image at 13:36 took it for me Henry. No problem socially distancing in weather like that. Camera, tick, tripod, tick, snorkel, tick, lens cloth oh dear. Great stuff.
Hi Henry, I prefer the first when you were lower. You are brave to be out with this weather. When I saw the first minutes of the video, I couldn’t imagine you could see something and get nice shot. Well done.👍
Hi Henry, difficult to choose from the two images but if pushed my preference is with the first image, the heather is slightly more vibrant in the first image and I like the way the flint wall leads the eye to the hilltop and dramatic moody skies, to borrow one of your phrases ‘top drawer’
Last but one with the strong leading line of the dry stone wall and the gorgeous light. Watching that I just wanted to be up there too at large with the elements. Great vid mate. I just love your enthusiasm so much. It's infectious!
Ofthe two images from Side Pike the first ticks the box for me. The low cloud really adds drama, but also captures more of the atmosphere and mood that we all saw in your video. Great VLOG sir. Stay well and stay safe.
The two images are hard to choose, the one at 13:29 jumps out to me and says this is the one but the one at 14:56 grabs me with the angles of the heather and the wall leading down into the pike. It is always interesting for me to hear the dialectal use of fell, pike, tarn, dale, etc., etc. They are a bit unfamiliar to me growing up in and living in the Southern Appalacians. All the best to you Henry! Thanks for another "Top Drawer" production!
I liked the composition at the very end best. The heather in the corner and just below in combination with the stone wall makes it for me. I can see where one could spend hours working that stone wall. :)
Hi, Henry. Just love your infectious enthusiasm! I appreciate the way you tell us your settings for most of your shots, often explaining the reasons for choosing those particular settings. However as a newbie amateur landscape enthusiast myself, I would really appreciate it if you also told us the thing I seem to experience the most problems with - where it is within your composition that you've chosen your focal point. For example, in your 'wall' pic, you seem to have great depth-of-field with F9, but I'd really like to know where you focussed. Keep up the good work.
I liked them all but the second one had for me that little bit of something that pulled me in more. Great video as always. Thank you for a wonderful time out in the Lake District sat at home warm and dry with a coffee.
As usual, I am several months behind. Between the last two I prefer the first one, I think composition is stronger. But my favorite is the first, the one with the lake. I am always surprised by the way you are capable of take a nice composition out of a scenery in which I would be lost. I love the way the cliff point to the lake, very nice
Another great video, personally for me, I prefer the first photo. It feels more intimate being a tighter image. Great leading line and nice warmth from the Heather in the foreground. We'll worth the moist climb!
I like them both, of course. But if I had to choose one, I'd select the second one mostly because when I saw the hill on the left when you first showed it in the video I hoped you were going to include it in the composition. Also, I like the moody skies in both, but the second shot feels more natural in the editing.
The last shot of the heather and the wall is amazing. Personally, I liked the composition of your final video even better--the tighter shot with the wall filling the right. I'm noticing this on many of your videos--while I'm watching your b-roll of you searching for a composition, I'm shouting, 'it's right there!' I enjoy your work, you exposing your process, and your enthusiasm. I'm a D7200 shooter in Japan--thanks!
I was in the Lake District too last week. You must have been in the Langdale valley the day they measured 90mm (4 inches) of rain! I got really wet on several occasions but loved every minute of being in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I have been following your videos for some time now and decided because of the weather to go into the woods which I know you also like doing - the woodland walk from Ashness Bridge to Watendlath is amazing and if you haven't done that yet I would guess autumn will be spectacular. Also went to Coombs wood in the Eden Valley (above Lazonby) which is also great. Love both your images of the Langdale Pikes and Side Pike but pushed I would say the first - beautiful and as you say, so indicative of the wonderful Lake District NP. Great video as always Henry.
Hi Henry. Great video as always. I personally prefer the first of the last two images for two reasons. One, the first has a more intimate feel. Secondly, the first has more shadow detail that improves the atmosphere.
The UK is not the only place with that misty soak you to the bone rain....we know that weather all too well on Vancouver Island on Canada's west coast. lol Loved the last image, that pink heather & the wall leading in to the image make for a stunning image.
Wasn't massively enthusiastic on the woodland pics, had hoped that lovely lime green mossy floor would have featured to add colour contrast to compliment the trees. Re the Langdale pics, the one before last worked best for me, epic pic and loved the scene setting with moody misty mountain tops. As always Henry awesome pics, looking forward to joining you next month to hopefully get a pic or two of my own I can be proud of in the same way. Rock on dude
Great video Henry....there's lots of satisfaction when battling the elements. I like both images but if I was force to choose I would pick the second one just for bright heather content.
Hi Henry another great vlog I love the scenery you show us. Amazing you can great photos in such miserable weather. I prefer the first one. I've started using more manual focusing and getting great results. Thanks for the tip👍
Hi Henry. Thanks for the video. I know what you mean about the weather, just had a week off the same in the Peak District - frustrating, challenging and exhilarating at the same time, and occasionally photographically rewarding; you got some cracking images there. Re the last two images, I think the first but hard to choose - I wonder about the second one cropped to 5x4 or 4x3 to lose a bit off the right hand side (just a thought). Cheers
Great Vlog yet again Henry. You don’t have to be mad to do what you do...... but it helps clearly. The 1st shot works for me better as the second feels like it might all slide out of the image. Still, both really good and an inspiring adventure. Thanks Henry and stay safe!
Finished my 214 Wainwrights 3 weeks ago on Lingmoor Fell , via Side Pike Henry. Weather was a bit better than yours though :-). This was my last mountain and my first where I took my tripod. You really dont need to go high to get great images . People ask me which was my favourite and this has to be up there at the top. Keep up the great videos No 1 , loving them .. Thanks
Alright Henry. Great stuff as always. I’m up that way next week myself 👍. On the image choice I’d say the first one for me. I think the wall encroaches too much on the right of the second image, it’s not as prominent on the first. But I’d be pleased with either
Both awesome photos I also noticed that there were a couple of compositions from the B roll camera I like the scene where you are climbing up with the Heather in the foreground and you can see a tree on the right side near the top I would be happy with even that Top draw matey 👌👍
Great stuff Henry, you make me wanna jump in the car and go to Dartmoor right away, awesome. The conditions there are just as wet and misty, which is why I am probably watching your vlog right now. The second image is my fav, but as always, all your images are incredible. Can't wait for the next instalment . Very inspiring 👍🏻
Hi Henry - if I had a title for this video, it would be "a drowned rat in the drowned Lake District"! The shot of Blea Tarn is very atmospheric and out of the other two I liked the first, better balanced. The second I felt the wall was too imposing, that struck me straight away.
Henry great video again I am loving your adventures. I prefer the first photo as I felt the lead in was better to take you through the scene, and what happened to your camera raincoat you didn't use it,
Of those last 2 pictures, to me the first one is the better one. Or should I say the more pleasing one to my eyes? To me it is more balanced and the line of the wall has a much better effect.
Personally preferred the 2nd image Henry as the composition was great as were the purple and greens intermixing with the other colour tones of the image.
Great photos - great attitude. I want to take a photo of such a fantastic landscape one day. In the rain. More beautiful lights !!!! Dr. Zoltán Dobány, Hungary
Oh men, think you where the only one out at that time!! Think the first shot from the second location was the best. Love the composition and the mood in the background, will look great on a print!!
Great video as always Henry. Last image my own favourite. I was up in that exact spot after walking up to Lingmoor Fell from Elterwater then onto Blea Tarn a few weeks ago. Glorious sunshine for me🤣
Good on you for getting out in that weather! I thought the next to last heather pic with the light streaming in from the right was fantastic. Never been to the Lake District. The place seems to be teeming with cairns and rock walls. Why are they there?
You’re a star Henry, that weather makes me shudder. Love the 1st image and the first of the 2 with the wall. I wanted you try zooming in and take a different shot
All nice photos Henry. That path through the crevice looks pretty cool so will have to check it out. Ps I used to work around the corner from the Phoenix club in Bolton which was a bit surreal and also the episode where max and paddy are dressed as priests at the customs check was filmed in Fleetwood docks.
Hi Henry credit to you braving that weather but we'll worth the journey absolutely beautiful photo's I loved the photo at 13:36 stunning, my wife and I definitely need to visit the lake District.
Like all the last two shoots. and first one got light atmosphere on right to balance grim weather. More room the wall, heather on the right side have to grow.
Fair play to you Henry getting up there in that weather, your certainly pushing the more established RUclipsrs out there mate and overtaking alot of them. Love the first shot nicely balanced. Well done 💪
Great vlog Henry really enjoyed it. The bad weather really helps out the images with all the atmosphere. Loved the last couple of images with the walls 👍
Hi Henry The 1st one of the last two images is my favourite, the composition is absolutely perfect. Keep em coming fella. Love your videos. So much passion for photography 👍👍👍
Some crackin' shots there Henry, especially given the weather you were experiencing. For what it is worth of the last two images I found the first the most pleasing as I think it was better balanced.
Really enjoyed the video and loved the images, especially the last two you showed us. What would be useful though mate, when you were taking images by hand and then checking the histogram, it would’ve been great to see the histogram on screen along with the image. So we can see what you see, does that make sense? I’m still learning and that’d be so useful. Anyway, great video, hope you dried off ok and I’m about to pour a cuppa to watch your next vid. 👍🏼
Thanks Henry, last image with heather and stone wall lovely, nice foreground & leading line. Off subject of photography, what sort of pants do you chaps in UK wear in the rain? In Aust it does not get too cold in many places and we often wear shorts in the rain as damp trousers make you cold. Do you wear waterproof trousers? I never miss uyour videos always interesting & helpful.
Hey Henry. Ever the intrepid explorer. I loved watching you squeeze through the rock gap and thought two things. Firstly, you got through it several times because of the vlogging camera capturing it, and secondly, I thought of the film '127 Hours'. Thank goodness you didn't get stuck, otherwise something might have had to go. LOL. Fantastic photos as ever. My favourite of the 2 at the end would be the first composition. The wall was a great leading line. The other image was just as pleasing, but structurally not as appealing to my eye. Glad you made it home safe. I guess you had to squeeze through that gap again?
Dedicated isn’t in it Henry, another great vlog, for me the panoramic vista shot over the lake when the light came through was a great image. Also loved the final pano with the leading line of the wall - great job again.
First image for me - gorgeous 😍 Second one splits the image in half too much for me. Looks like Lake District has the same summers as west coast of Scotland. Think yourself lucky you don't have the midges as well!!
Looks like it was earlier this week - I was getting wet at wast water. Great video Henry and awesome shot with the light. Plan to go there this week and hope I get something half as good.

When it comes to landscape and woodland photography vlogging, these videos must be some of the most unpretentious I’ve seen. So refreshing, also giving me wanderlust for the Lake District.
I liked the first of the two shots. The foreground has those strong intersecting diagonals making a more structurally pleasing image.

I am going to change my Kofi to monthly rather than a one off, you deserve it for getting out in these conditions to entertain and educate us.
Beaut photos of the heather!...I live in the Derbyshire Peak District and see so many over saturated pictures of the countryside with positive comments that it makes me cringe!...yours make a refreshing change....love them....

I love your work, thanks! I am a beginner and your advice is very helpful for me
First one the 2 was a stronger composition for me. Great vlog as always. Your enthusiasm is infectious.Thanks.
Your last shot with the stone wall was beautiful, very inspirational!
Wow, I love both pictures.. So hard to choose.. If I had to choose, I would say the last one is my favorite, but they both are wonderful!
Hi Henry, I prefer the first when you were lower. You are brave to be out with this weather. When I saw the first minutes of the video, I couldn’t imagine you could see something and get nice shot. Well done.👍

And he delivers again, fab video and images Henry 👍. My favourite will have to be the first image, but takes nothing away from the second one 😊
I liked the composition at the very end best. The heather in the corner and just below in combination with the stone wall makes it for me.
I can see where one could spend hours working that stone wall. :)
Your enthusiasm is wonderful, Henry! Loved the vlog. Keep em coming. Thank you again.
That stone wall was incredible. I would spend hours just looking at it
Hi, Henry. Just love your infectious enthusiasm! I appreciate the way you tell us your settings for most of your shots, often explaining the reasons for choosing those particular settings. I prefer the first of the last two images. It just feels more intimate thus feeling like I was part of it.
Great video Henry, you are a trouper going out in all weather. I prefer the first photo with the wall, just edges past the second photo for me.
Glad the weather cleared up a bit for you Henry all though it was short lived. Enjoyable video love the final image. Take care.
The 2nd last photo was best in my book - lots of depth & atmosphere... Nice one !
Second shot! The heather on the right balances Side Pike. Both excellent pics, however. Love the site!
I like them both, of course. But if I had to choose one, I'd select the second one mostly because when I saw the hill on the left when you first showed it in the video I hoped you were going to include it in the composition. Both greta shots. My preference is the first shot. I like the lighting and overall balance of the image.

Hi Henry ... a walk in the rain can be awesome and refreshing 👍🏻😁
Personally I prefer the first of those photographs.
The UK is not the only place with that misty soak you to the bone rain....we know that weather all too well on Vancouver Island on Canada's west coast. lol
Loved the last image, that pink heather & the wall leading in to the image make for a stunning image.
Both pictures were superb Henry but I'm going with the last image.
Beautiful shots, that's one of the places I sadly had to skip when I was there. Definitely on the to-do list next time ;)
Thanks a lot Mads
Excellent vlog, Henry. So much energy and enthusiasm. Keep up the great work.
Heather in the foreground with the stone wall does it for me Henry. Great vid as usual.
your a trooper Henry, gorgeous pics as always, second one is stunning.thank you for braving the wild for our pleasure.cheers mate.
Great stuff Henry. Would love to live somewhere that's rainy, living in Queensland Australia we don't get this weather, ever!.
Well done mate 👍👍👍 you go out in any weather to make a vlog.. most appreciated
Alright Henry. Great stuff as always. I’m up that way next week myself 👍. On the image choice I’d say the first one for me. I think the wall encroaches too much on the right of the second image, it’s not as prominent on the first. But I’d be pleased with either
Great job best image for me was the second but I would be over the moon 🌛 with both .
Another great video. Thanks for all your inspiration. I really liked the 1st image. Well done on getting soaked for us.
Hi Henry loved the vlog and your enthusiasm the second photo of the 2 is the best as the lead in line is better
Great video Henry, true dedication. For me I prefer the second to last shot, but don't as me why. Thanks.
Both awesome photos
I also noticed that there were a couple of compositions from the B roll camera
I like the scene where you are climbing up with the Heather in the foreground and you can see a tree on the right side near the top
I would be happy with even that
Top draw matey
👌👍
Another great video Henry, i'm back in the lakes in 10 days and i'm buzzing for it, it will be my first visit since lockdown!
Another great vlog Henry, what a man, braving the elements just for us. Both shots very good, but the 2nd one just edges it for me. Well done mate!
Hi Henry - if I had a title for this video, it would be "a drowned rat in the drowned Lake District"!
The shot of Blea Tarn is very atmospheric and out of the other two I liked the first, better balanced. The second I felt the wall was too imposing, that struck me straight away.

Personally preferred the 2nd image Henry as the composition was great as were the purple and greens intermixing with the other colour tones of the image.
Henry, I like the first of the two photos. Gorgeous and more intimate with a better story told. Thanks for the videos.
Great photos - great attitude.
I want to take a photo of such a fantastic landscape one day. In the rain.
More beautiful lights !!!!
Dr. Zoltán Dobány, Hungary
lovely location, awesome views, looks like our winters here on the south coast of western Australia, our mid summer is dry and brown

Great video, Henry. The first shot (13:30) is my preference.
Well done 💪
Love the first shot henry, those clouds over the langdales give loads of atmosphere, I feel inspired to go out and get a soaking now😂🌩️🌧️🌧️
Great vlog Henry really enjoyed it. The bad weather really helps out the images with all the atmosphere. Loved the last couple of images with the walls 👍
Hi Henry
The 1st one of the last two images is my favourite, the composition is absolutely perfect. Keep em coming fella. Love your videos. So much passion for photography 👍👍👍
Great location, was exactly there myself this time last year.
Hi Henry great video I prefer the last photo, how come you didn't get a shot with the sheep in the frame ?
Loving the deep contrast in the final image Henry, top drawer...
Another fantastic video. I prefer the second one but both stunning
Both images are amazing 🙌🙌 Henry, I will go with both 😃
I preferred your first shot Henry.
First image for me - gorgeous 😍 Second one splits the image in half too much for me. Looks like Lake District has the same summers as west coast of Scotland. Think yourself lucky you don't have the midges as well!!
Opting for the lower approach - difficult to beat, to be honest!
