One technique that I use (stole from my master teacher during student teaching) is that i begin and end all of my classes the same way. I greet my students at the door as they walk in and they sit down and start the warm up. I close the door when the bell rings and walk to the front of the classroom where I take roll and then take care of any housekeeping tasks while walking around the room. In the last five minutes of class, students work on a final task (exit ticket, etc) independently and I conduct any necessary housekeeping tasks. At about two minutes to go I allow them to pack up (at their desks!) and give them permission to leave when the bell rings-I walk to the door to say goodbye and greet the next class. I’ve found it to be very helpful and effective, especially with learning students names as they come and go.
👍🏾Very strong set of procedures. The structure provides consistency for your scholars. But additionally the intentional movement to the classroom door to see the students out of class while simultaneously greeting the next class is a great way to learn names, build rapport, and connect with your scholars. Thanks for sharing such an effective practice with our community.
@mcdonaldpatrick19…go to my channel page and find my LinkedIn profile link. Go to my LinkedIn and send me a DM I’m happy to set up a call or zoom to help you with your situation.
My pleasure. I’m glad the content is helpful. It is my goal to provide as much useful tools and insight as possible for you and the rest of our community.
I am glad that you find the tips helpful. I remember my very first interview and I was very nervous and lacking confidence. I found my voice in my passion for helping kids and coaching sports. Who knew that would lead to a wonderful career of more than 23 years so far. When you get the chance in an interview lead with your passion and what you care deeply about. Let the principal see that passion. It is what would resonate with me. Best of luck and keep me posted on your progress. 👍🏾
Best of luck! Remember, be yourself. Enjoy the process and let the interviewer or panel see who you are and your passion for this wonderful work! I’ve got my fingers crossed for you. 🤞🏽
Your content is extremely useful and on top you have such a soothing and calming voice. So thankful to you and your channel. Learning so much… The interview is for the post of elementary school teacher. Super nervous. I have years of experience in my home country but zero in a completely new country where I am settling. 😊
Thank you so much for the feedback. I am glad that my channel has been helpful to you. I will keep trying to give you and the rest of the community valuable and useful insights to help you in your professional educator journey. As far as your interview. Be yourself. Leverage your knowledge and your experience. Show them why you are dynamic and exactly what the scholars need. I’m rooting for you!!
