I just watched the movie about these amazing men. It saddens me that I failed to even realize such a travesty had took place. I pray for the love ones they left behind!
literally had no clue this happened until a few weeks ago on TikTok, such a shame many others don't realize these amazing 19 men died doing what they love and trying to protect others
When my roommate and I first moved here to Prescott Arizona we only been only here for 3 months in 2013 before this tragedy happened.i feel sorry for the 19 granite mountain hotshots that passed away and for the lone survivor my thoughts and prayers are with him, that every time I watch a video on the tragedy.
As a trained volunteer wildland firefighter in Florida, I carry a set of Standard Firefighting Orders and Watch Out Situations in my wallet as a reminder. There are 10 Orders and 18 Watch Out situations. Each one resulted from a situation where someone died. During training, many wildfire situation, including this one, are studied so we can learn from them to prevent future loss of life. This is NOT fake news - it's as real as it gets. When on the fireline, you often aren't near the trucks. You're supposed to know where your safety zone is and the escape route to get to it (LCES for those who do this). But things happen. A windshift blows the fire back at you. Increasing wind can push flames faster than you can run, especially in light fuels like grass. Decreasing humidity means increasing fire activity. Any of these could cut off your escape. You deploy your fireshelter in the hope that you will survive. Many have. Some, like the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots, don't. I honor their dedication and professionalism.
Thank you, Arthur, and much respect for what you do. It's obvious that is lacking in this comment thread. I don't get the complete lack of humanity and respect, and I don't care what their politics are.
Gente demais essa técnica dos hotshot. Assisti o filme incrível. Tremendo. Apagar fogo com o fogo 🔥 que história linda. Morreram para salvar uma cidade, milhares de vidas. AMAZING!!!!!!!
As a daughter of a firefighter, I just cannot imagine the pain of losing my dad like that. These men were real heros, and I lost it when the mom hugged the crew hiking there. Its on my bucket list to hike that trail with my dad someday.
For all of those heroes rest in peace we will never forget you Andrew Ashcraft, 29 Robert Caldwell, 23 Travis Carter, 31 Dustin DeFord, 24 Christopher MacKenzie, 30 Eric Marsh, 43 Grant McKee, 21 Sean Misner, 26 Scott Norris, 28 Wade Parker, 22 John Percin Jr., 24 Anthony Rose, 23 Jesse Steed, 36 Joe Thurston, 32 Travis Turbyfill, 27 William Warneke, 25 Clayton Whitted, 28 Kevin Woyjeck, 21 Garret Zuppiger, 27
I just finished watching the movie - Only the Brave, and I am bawling my eyes out. I've buried 7 of my mates, lost to drugs and violence. Although not we are not heroes, this story really touched a chord within me. This story...man....brotherhood....grief....guilt....I miss my bros...I feel like it should have been me, rather than any of them.
Thank you, Tyler. I don't know when I've been this angry. My son is also a firefighter. Do they even know anything about this horrible tragedy? Probably not.
I recently evacuated from Christmas Valley, Ca in Tahoe. My neighborhood looked like hell with flames surrounding the ridge line; hot shots and firefighters saved my home. I cannot imagine the reality of facing flaming flames and batting it. RIP Granite Mountain Hotshot!!
I can't believe how disrespectful you commenters are. Your childish jibes have absolutely NOTHING to do with the subject of this video. 19 young men were burned alive in 2013 fighting a fire in order to save a town in Arizona. What have you Great Americans done lately with your lives? I hope you start with being ashamed of yourselves.
Don't rise to it. Im from the UK and we don't have anything comparable. A truely sad storey of people putting their lives on the line for other people. If I'm honest, its very easy to think that American films are cheesy sometimes but this is something to be proud of because those are the kind of guys I would go into battle with and you can't say that about everyone. There is soo much shit in the UK at the moment about Donald Trump, even petitions to not allow him into the UK. I think anyone that signs that petition is an idiot because its not up to us who runs a country we are not part of, we just have to respect it! There is no doubt in my mind that if it wasn't for America, I would be speaking German right now. I can't thank you enough for that. (No offense Germany)
If this were your town and ur ass was burn alive.. we from Flagstaff, Az would be saying the same thin about u and I bet it would hurt u while u burn in hell
Coming up on this anniversary. Most intensely sad thing I have ever experienced. Prescott was lucky to have these men and their families. Never forgotten. #19
This is not about CNN. Those men made the ultimate sacrifice for the benefit of others. 47 years ago the fire department where I was a reserve lost three firefighters when an incident took a sudden bad turn. I found the reserve who was killed on the pavement. My best efforts accomplished nothing. He was likely dead when he hit the pavement. The memories of that incident haunt me to this day. I sympathize deeply with Brendan McDonough, the sole survivor.
Just watch the movie , and got say its just impossible to not get emotional , after u realize its a true history , thats heavy bro... true heroes. Rest in peace.
I dont know why these guys have been on my mind for years.Just want you all to know that you are not forgotten.Thank you to my 19 heros.God bless your families.Heros
And to think what single handedly got these guys killed was because of that one pilot they found later that flew his stupid single engine farm plane and dumped water on their burn line and completely messed up the entire process of stopping that fire.
I just saw the movie. The fire seemed behind the ranch house? I heard they were .4 miles from it. Could they not try to make a run for it? What about run to the side?
See how annoying it is when CNN reports a legitimate story and people try to complete diminish it by thoughtlessly commenting "Fake News"? It's aggravating but it's all anybody ever does anymore. No one needs actual evidence anymore, just cry Fake News
You think maybe the fire was running along the ridge and they thought they had time to make it to the safety zone that the fire was getting out of hand in their direction and communication was not good at all so they tried to rush to the ranch or that they just wanted to save the house and get to the safety area and accomplish both plus that’s where all the others assumed they would be for rescue?
The hot granite shots mountain hotshots hot shot men at the granite mountain hot and shots. There it is! (When they decided on name for their granite mountain hot shots and shot and hot)
Even with small bushes a fire can still get very big. And because the mountain hadn't burned for so long the fire spread very fast with the dry bushes.
My dad is a firefighter and when he goes on wildfires I always pray for him to come back safely
that’s deep

I remember reading that some of the firefighters died slowly in their fire blankets. Terrible all around

these firefighters sacrificed everything to make a difference. and this is their story, I don't understand why all these comments are on CNN.
Neither do I. These people are shameful. This video should be respected and so especially should the men who died.
Because those people have never served for anyone other than themselves. First ones to complain if EMS doesn't get fast enough for them.
These are your typical trump supporters.
not quite...
because people are scum everything is about their view being right Noone else has an opinion or can be sympathetic to anything
Very heart touching memorial to see in person
