The enemy variety is the biggest issue I had with the game. The troll boss was cool the first time, but when you fight him 10 more times, he's not that great anymore.
Anime is Trash you can't compare it to the old one especially when it comes to enemies, the new game has much higher detail and better animations the old games didn't have to worry about detail because of how far the camera was away.
I don't think the trolls themselves were the problem. They were a fun large enemy type to fight. I wouldn't mind if more of them showed up to regular fights with less health. The problem is where they were used. In many of the fights would have been better with a one off new monster. The devs actually wanted to do that for some of those fights like in Helheim but didn't have the means to finish them.
What kinda annoys me abt the hypes these days.... A game has to be either the best thing EVER or the worst thing to grace this earth. Games can't be "just" good anymore. Games can't be a 7/10 or a 8/10 anymore.
@@jakegarman4526 He made this video expecting criticism. He welcomed it. The problem is the video game community is really toxic. I can't say for certain, but I can totally see this as a mental health move and I'm all for it.
Aspiring Marauder no, like, what normal human being would watch a new video at 2x speed rather than the normal speed of the video? Are they in that much of a hurry?
Game is a 10/10 for me cause any minor issues I may have had were rendered meaningless by the excellence of everything else. People seem to think giving a game a 10 means it's perfect. It doesn't, it just means it's masterfully executed and the flaws don't really detract from the experience. Though I respect Caddi's opinion of him not loving it as much as I or other reviewers did. To each their own!
If you give a score of 10/10, you still get an idea that it's "perfect" in a sense. I think it's about time we stop using numbers to rate a game. It may come off to people with equivocal definition of what is perfect.
Critical Nobody so getting a 100% on a test doesn't mean I passed? Games are usually rated on a scale of 1-10 in multiple categories, then those scores are averaged for an overall score. Rating it a 10/10 means it aced all categories flawlessly. Unflawed. Perfect. Just so you know how ratings actually work :)
Soldium Um...you only need like a 60-65% on most exams to pass so I’m not sure about the analogy. Everyone’s rating scale is different. Some people use stars, others use 1-5, some use 1-10 with decimals, some use percentages etc etc. Everyone’s personal metric is different. I use a 1-10 scale without decimals because I feel ten different categories is enough to rate with. A 10 doesn’t mean perfect because no game is perfect. If that’s what it truly meant, then that means one bug, one not great moment, one texture pop in would disqualify it. Therefore nothing would get the score. A 10/10 for me is masterful, not perfect.
17:20 Ok I’m sorry but were we playing the same game??? Because after Atreus’s outburst it doesn’t go back too just normal dialogue. Atreus gives Kratos attitude until they have a small heart too heart. It was more about the way Atreus talked and not really about what he was saying.
BigSteve258 He only got the superiority attitude after kratos reveled that god blood is running throw his veins not when kratos enters the alfheim light... and he did show you a clip to backup his point
Atreus literally pulls a switch to "Crazy with power" and then has a little fuck up and pulls the switch back to normal again. That's not an arc, that's more of a demonic possession.
@@thatspecialguy3291 He's talking about the attitude Atreus had throughout the end part of Alfheim's part of the story. The bitterness and anger toward Kratos for leaving him alone to fend for himself. And yeah, he does have that attitude for a while until they talk on the boat, but the first conversation they have after Atreus' initial outburst was completely normal with almost no tension whatsoever, that being the part where the light arrows are reintroduced. He wasn't talking about Atreus feeling superior because he's a god. That comes way later.
I just want to say that GoW 3’s god killing rampage was built up through previous games and GoW 2 literally ended on the cliffhanger of Kratos on Gaia’s back, setting up the opening to GoW 3 so I don’t know why the Thor thing bothers you so much. I have no doubt these new ones will do the same. I liked the old games but I do think I like this new one more. Then again maybe it’s just because I’m in the honeymoon phase with it. I enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work!
A bit late but at least you fought Zeus in GoW 2 but you don't win. It would be like you getting to fight thor here and then afterwards you're son dies afterwich you give chase to Thor to avenge him in the sequel. Though I didn't mind the ending here that much I did wish something like that happened to see just how strong he is.
it's not the same though, for starters the first god of war was a very conclusive and satisfying narrative in it's own right, meaning if they didn't do any more sequels it would still work as a standalone game, something which the very first title in a new series should do (this game is technically a continuation but the vastly different change in direction makes it clear it's like a whole new series in a way, coupled with the fact the title is once again just "god of war" of course, implying the same type of conclusive narrative the first gow offered). The other thing that makes it different is that the cliffhanger only happened in the second game in the franchise which is much more acceptable, players already had a good story before now it's just about continuing that onto something bigger once you get into the sequels. On top of that, although the second game ended on a cliffhanger (which to be honest I found a bit disapointing myself but like I said it's more acceptable than if it happened in the very first game of the series) it was still appropriately climatic, you get to fight the main antagonist of the story before that cliffhanger, so it found a nice balance between a conclusive ending and a lead up to the next game. In this game you get teased about thor the whole game but then all you have at the end is this other character who I honestly really liked but thought was much more of "sidekick" material to the character who should be the actual villain (think like a harry flynn to uncharted 2's lazarevich for example). overall still a good game but I gotta say I agree with the review, it's bigger problem for me was not having that satisfying plot I was expecting, it was more of just a prologue to the story the devs actually want to tell, which is always a big negative as far as I'm concerned, devs should always put everything they can into the title they're making and make sure it works on its own
I'm all for people enjoying the game if they like it, but I do think a lot of valid points like the ones you bring up are being ignored because people just REALLY want it to be a 10/10 masterpiece and can't accept that a game with such a huge name and huge marketing is just alright. The fact that people can say it's a perfect game despite shit like the dumbass walking segments or the absolutely pathetic boss lineup just seems like people getting more into the hype than the game itself.
I agree that people sometimes just go with the hype, but if someone thinks it's a masterpiece, let them think what they want. You say it's just alright, ok that's your opinion, but if someone thinks it's better or if they like the walking segments just let them
I do think the boss lineup is actually pretty fun, if a bit sparse. The gameplay loop itself doesn't do a lot to beckon me back for a single playthrough. I also do agree that the execution isn't as subtle as it could be. The most subtle part about the game's story involves Kratos being too harsh on himself.
I hate people like you. So what you’re saying is, no one can think this game is a 10/10? Any anyone who does is delusional and not genuine? You sound like a jerk to me.
As much as I love the GoW series, I didnt get this day one. Watched the movie cutscenes online, then got it for $10 on black friday. The lack of awesome bosses and lack of Norse god battles was a turn off when game released. NG+ and the many updates the game got made it fun to play. I just hope the sequel AT LEAST tries to be like GoW3 by giving us EPIC boss battles.
@@SPM0717 But what it lacked in bosses, it made up with fun high energy hacknslash gameplay the series became known for, arguably the best told and only completely selfcontained story in the entire franchise, topnotch level-design and well paced epic quest build around memorable moments and epic set-pieces.
@@jondoe7036 Exactly. And when I learned that Cory removed the quick time events, at first I didn’t mind, but when I played some of the old games, these events made the experience more immersive.
J Riibz Model Prime Anything EA says is bullshit by default anyway so i don't know why you need constant verification on how their dumb biased statments are untrue.
What? You respect his choice? That's not how you do it! This is the internet, you're supposed to bitch at him and make threats of violence any sane person knows you'll never follow through on, but make you sound like you should be locked in an insane asylum anyway.
It's the most 8/10 game I've played. It's very solid and I much prefer it over the style of the original trilogy that felt like lesser versions of DMC and Bayo. That said, it's not the most mind blowing game and it has flaws that only get noticed as the game goes on. Atreus' warnings and voice lines during battle get grating. Mid bosses are reused too often. No boss hits the same heights as the first fight against Baldur. The puzzles get tedious as the game goes on as 95% of them are just axe throwing. Climbing is pointless and might as well be a loading screen. Hunting for runes for chests got annoying as it went on. While the exploration is very nice the actual optional content isn't the best, particularly the portal fights that are difficult in a way that feels very cheap in design. Caddy covers it here but there is also a feeling of the game being very "manufactured" in both its design and its narrative but that's the most subjective thing ever and its very difficult to properly articulate. Not even sure if I can call it a flaw though.
It goes without saying but I feel like hype culture can really blind people to anything and everything about faults in a games design these days. Like, i'm really excited to play this game after everything I've watched from it and I know I will enjoy it, but literally every single criticism you (and others) have made about this are 100% legitimate and it makes absolutely no sense how seemingly 5% of the internet can actually understand that (especially the boss rehashing, I honest to god don't know how no one has brought that up yet) when its literally staring you right in the face. I'm not saying that people can't call what they want a 10/10 because everybody has differing opinions on what their perfect game is, but when the arguments basically boil down to "You're wrong because everybody loves this game" (and yeah, I have heard this before) it just tells me that they have no way to actually back up their argument besides getting defensive over things that people may not like about their favorite video game even if, like you said, you liked the game yourself.
I feel like Caddy is a bit of a contrarian though. A lot of what he said was either wrong, or exactly the point. Very 'to much water' if you catch what I'm saying. I'll never call this a 10, but, it's certainly better than a 6.
After everything is said and done you give it a 6/10. I think that's a fair score given the points you made for and against this game. I personally feel that it's a 7 or 8, but what I look for in a game is different from your honest opinion. Good video!
Well, for one thing, the way my mind views games is that nothing will ever be a 10/10 or perfect. A game will always have some kind of issue that I can find. Even my all-time favorites that I will defend until I die have some pretty glaring issues. If I gave a game a 9/10, that is essentially my way of giving it a perfect score. In other words, I would find very little issues that would alter my impressions. I understand how it may seem really strange, but that is just I feel about this kind of thing. In the case of GOW4, the game from a story perspective, felt very reliant on it being a new series. Granted, that could have been the point, but the game could have flopped and sequels could never happen. With the constant mentions of both Odin and Thor, with the latter appearing at the very end of the game, I already knew that they wouldn't appear in this installment, but most certainly the next one. In the gameplay department, the combat is awesome. I love the axe, and it feels very right for Kratos to use it. Atreus was also not as bad as I thought he was going to be. However, I felt that there were not very many good boss fights that the series was known for. Outside of Baldur and at one Dragon you get Mistletoe from, most of the bosses are just recolors of those giant ogre/troll enemies. Even in Helhiem, the supposed "Guardian" was just a re-skinned troll. Those are really all of my main issues with the game. Granted, I don't think I could improve it, but I am satisfied with what I got. I hope that answered your question. :)
The Camera is locked so you never have to wait on atreus to catch up to you when you get to a point where he jumps on your back or climbs to a higher place without you. He can freely teleport to you without breaking immersion. I thought this was extremely obvious.
mohamed abdelfatah not a poor excuse. If you could freely jump around and rotate the camera willy nilly, atreus would be much more of a burden because either he'd have to be glued to your ass the whole time, get an awkward speed boost to try to follow you quickly, or not be a core gameplay element. Think of any other follower system with a free moving camera and tell me one that works as seamlessly as gow 4.
That's making the overall game much shittier for the sake of something that doesn't matter that much; surely they could have found a way to solve that problem without ruining the camera and hurting much of the gameplay?
Wait, doesn't this game have colored arrows pointing to attacks that you can't see because of the bad camera? Isn't that really immersion breaking too?
This game is an 8.5 to 9 for me I preferred the combat and boss fights of GOW3 more, this seemed like an introduction no more or less to a series hopefully it gets better as it goes on
Only people who have played the ps2 God of war games will mourn for the loss of fun and engaging combat absent in God of war 4. The ps2 games had an amazing combat system which is why I liked gow 1,2 & 3.
Karthik lmaoooo so you’re telling me the combat isn’t engaging in the new god of war ? Honestly from what I’m hearing you probably sucked so bad In the newest installment that you have no choice but to call it bad. Watch my videos of fighting sigrun on GMGOW and tell me it’s not engaging
GOW4 looks like their first try at emotional hack n slash games. It wasn't perfect, but it did a good job, in my opinioin. I wanna see if GOW5 can be even better than this one.
I'd say this game was an 8 or MAYBE an 8.5. I find a 6/10 to be a little low, but good for sticking to your guns, caddy :) But hey, least it's not a fucking battle-royal multiplayer "service" like everyone wants to jump on these days -_-
It's a real shame when a reviewer can't make a review without people hating on their opinions. Is it really that bad if the reviewers opinion is different than your own? Great review as always Caddy! EDIT: Just to clarify. I disagree with Caddy on many points in this review. I loved the game, 9/10. I'm not siding with him because i agree with his opinions, but because i respect them.
Well said You put it well being the middle ground Both sides are just as dumb The side that criticising and name calling him for having an opinion And the side that praises and congratulates him for giving it a low score
Well people hating on his opinion are just expressing their opinion of his review, just because he has an opinion doesn't mean that it has to be respected, and it definitely doesn't make him right, did you actually expected everyone to accept his review as the absolute truth, other people are also just giving their opinion about his review, so yeah it goes both ways, we are under no obligation to respect his opinion.
My biggest issues are the combat. You can't take a series with six previous installments that are full pedal-to-the-metal fast and slow it down so abruptly. I had the hardest time adjusting to that and I died numerous times in the beginning because of it. Once the Blades of Chaos returned, however, that problem was almost nonexistent. Other than that and the agonizingly slow paced first third of the game, I loved it. Atreus is one of the better child characters in a video game (though I despise his voice and I really hope we get a change in voice actors for him in the future) and the fact that they were actually able to make Kratos seem like a decent human being after six games of him being the biggest monster and irredeemable character I think I've ever seen. Other than those few issues, the game lives up to the series I feel. It's different, sure, but not in a bad way. As far as the cliffhanger goes, I'm fine with it because I'm invested in this story and like all the other games I'll see it through. I think GOW earned that cliffhanger and I'm excited to see what happens next.
8/10 from me. The good in the game is REALLY good, but the criticism is valid, and big enough for me to stay from a 9 or 10. My biggest problem was that they concealed too much in both story and gameplay. The lore and valkyries are great, but they're supplemental and without them, I would have gone with a 6 or 7. With them, I call it great and stand at an 8.
People who hate this because he just likes it is just really sad. It's not like he killed someone, he just told that he doesn't love the game with reasonable points. If you blindly praise any game, then there's a risk of developers keeping all the flaws or making the sequal feel exactly the same
I mean I agree God of War is not a 10/10, but dont you guys think a 6 is too excessive bordering to attention-grabbing? It’s like shitting on all the 7 years of hardwork Santa Monica has rendered here... i really highly regarded your opinions in gaming Caddy but I should say i am really disappointed on this one. We all know you work hard for these videos but man, you dont have to go full on Breath of the Wild-Jim Sterling to make your point. I respect your opinion, mightve won the argument but you lost my subscription / trust in your opinion. (Really wished the reviews didn’t have scores)
Hicky McGee based on his personal experiences with God of War and Yooka-Laylee, he enjoys Yooka-Laylee better. There’s nothing wrong with that. Everyone has tastes on what they enjoy. Sure I was bummed Caddy did not enjoy the game as much as he liked, but he is subjected, just like all of us, to enjoy the things we like. I mean me personally, God of War so far to me doesn’t even compare to Horizon, Uncharted or the Last of Us.
Caddy it's ok. We all have different tastes of what we like, & that's just something we can't help. For me this game was one of the most incredible game experiences I think i've honestly ever had. Growing up with this character & just seeing this relationship is actually really astonishing. We all like things differently, & that's fine lol. Anyway keep up the good work :D
It’s as if people are so busy agreeing with everything Caddy’s saying that they become no better than the people who hype up the game. I don’t think he’s completely wrong about the game, but there are a lot of things I disagree with here
Ahh, I love RUclips. Completely unable to tolerate diferent opinions. I love GoW and I think it's the best PS4 exclusive, but I can definitely see why he could find it disappointing.
I think your criticism is well placed. Not having played GoW4 yet my biggest worry with it was the behind-the-back camera. It looks so stiff... But I can't wait to be able to play this! It looks so awesome in so many ways!
Honestly, you summed up the whole game pretty much the same way I did when I beat it. It was fun to continue every time I started a new session, so there was SOMETHING that kept me going, but I knew it was far from perfect. Lots of uneventful walks, repetitive bosses (holy FUCK, those dang copy-paste stone wielding trolls), mostly unneccessary gear customization and... well, no need describing it, since you just frickin' talked about it. So yeah, good game... good game. But that's all it is, and I can respect that.
Me: Can’t we just let have Caddy have his personal views on the game and move on??? Specific God of War IV fans: yoUr oPinIoN iS wROnG VERY specific God of War IV fans: Lets burn this man at the stake.
This is probably the best "negative" GoW review I've seen. TheGamingBritShow did one too, but his review felt too cynical and bitter. You at least acknowledged the good stuff in the game.
Harry indeed He changed it so people would actually watch the review and maybe come to understand why he has the opinion he does rather than simply clicking, disliking and stating that he only did it for click bait
Epic Marschmallow Well obviously dude, people are all idiots online and would, for lack of a better phrase "judge a book by it's cover" and dislike it immediately.
You have some major balls with this. I totally respect you for it; more than I already did. I do disagree with *some* of your negative points but I still applaud you for your review. I wanna say that the walking bits in this game are sorta similar to the past games: They are for presenting the beautiful and/or vast environments. We get some conversations to accompany these bits, more than the past games. Your review wasn't completely hate filled but spoken from your mind. I'll admit though, it may have sounded more hate-filled in some parts but overall it was a good review.
Its not a form of having balls...he didn't like it and gave it a poor review. My.problem is he presented his points as absolute facts then gave a blanket score
MH Sess he never said his points were fact, he stated million times that this is his opinion withing his video, however i do argue some points he brought up are *facts* like reused boss fights with different skin, and no he said he just like it not loved it
You know, you keep saying that you aren't bothered by scores and such, but then you go on and talk about how you are bothered by this game getting such high scores and reviews. You have always kind of come off like this where you get mad that a game is getting high scores and you "don't understand or see it" at the very least, you do explain yourself in terms of your criticisms towards the game.
Well, he shouldn't let that get the best of him. He always comes off like he needs to needs to fight someone with his opinion. He has done this so many times with his reviews and videos, and it's insane. He claims not to care, but he does and that's obnoxious and petty that he lets himself get this upset about them. It's pathetic.
Caddy, sweetie, I truly appreciate your opinion and whatnot. And honestly you've done youtube enough to give absolutely no shits about anyone and their opinions. One thing I notice you do is you focus insanely hard on the negatives, focusing on them to the point that it sours your whole experience, instead of focusing on the positives. It's like the mix of watching a CinemaSins video vs a Cinema Wins video. I understand having to critique a game for the sake of give an honest to god review, but there is a different between critique and disrespectful nitpicking.
I honestly prefer the new direction of the series. I feel like it could be developed a lot more than the style of the previous games which towards the end got fairly stale. Also while the story has always been good I feel like there was a major step up
Just sayin, with a cursory understanding of Norse myth, it would be entirely apparently as soon as Ragnarok is mentioned that you obviously don't get to fight Thor. That happens during Ragnarok.
I find it weird how people are getting really salty about the score he gave it. But here's the thing. 6 outta 10 is still a very good score, despite the problems a game has. What, just because it's above 10 outta 10 that means it's mediocre? I don't understand people sometimes...
Mindset of a scoring sytem in this day and age was different back then. I guess we consider anything a 7 or lower as absolute garbage and not worth looking while an 8 as strange impasse that isn't looked at or appreciated enough. While back then, 7 or higher was a blast and a welcomed accomplishement while a 6 was good but can be seen as room for improvement and positive encouragement from the devs an players was there. I just don't know where the shift of this culture of arbitrary score count came from , but is very much at odds with the "value your own opinion" type mindset that is seen not only in this comment section but everywhere else. 6 is good but can be improved, I disagree with Caddy mind you, but this mentality will linger because a game is looked at as a test in school.
Love me my boy Caddy, but I really dislike how he calls all his videos that are 2 years old or more "[OLD]", like the video is completely fine, value the work you've put into stuff you've done in the past, bro.
I kinda noticed how in the original trilogy, the Greek gods immediately took notice of Kratos, saw him as a threat and would actually do everything in their powers to stop him. Here? Thor and Odin couldn't give two shits about him until near the end.
"I'm just hoping IN VAIN at this point that the sequel is gonna be tons better" Yeah, do yourself a favour and don't get the next one if it's only going to be a chore for you to play it.
Seeing how people are handling this game, the sequel may have already started to build up more hype than it can satisfy. That worries me more than words can suffice. =/
I’d personally give this game a 9/10 I loved it, I personally think it is the best god of war game and one of the best games I ever played. Do I think it is perfect? No...not at all, but I personally think that most of the bad stuff doesn’t come close to affecting my enjoyment of it Again it isn’t perfect, but all of the points caddy makes are valid criticism. You can have your own rating, like me, but don’t hate on Caddy!
Seeing almost every review giving it 10/10 feels rather odd. It makes me question of what makes this game “perfection.” Not to say this game is terrible, in fact it’s very beautiful and great but I see it the same way with other games that are 7-8/10 great.
I agree except for the 'Cliffhanger' part. I played this game and followed it on stream and each time the reaction we got from the end was simply a huge amount of hype for the next games. There are really enough bosses and the last bosses is foreshadowed far more than Thor and Odin that we do not see even once in the game.
6/10 is fine. I just hope this doesn't result in the typical Caddicarus hive mind coming together and mocking people/critics for loving the game. Caddy may have not enjoyed it as much as others, but that doesn't mean the game doesn't deserve the scores its been getting.
I don't know, one of those reviews was literally just "gameplay is bad but look at the GRAPHIXXX" so I can't trust it. Though I did hear that was proven to be fake so maybe I'm just being bitter about this.
Have you ever interacted with a fanbase on the internet? What's with this retarded trend of calling people who agree on a few things a "hive mind" anyway?
I’d say your review of this game is very fair. I myself absolutely adore this game, have played it for hours on end. But yes all of the issues you are talking about I myself have noticed and acknowledge them, and yes some of the a can be really annoying. But I hope after this you consider doing a review of Days Gone, I think that might be interesting for you as well.
Thank you for mentioning how *S L O W* this game is!! I couldn't even get halfway through it, while I can replay the other GOW games over and over and over again with no problem God of War 4 was a *huge* disappointment
Before watching, no, it's a solid 8, perhaps an 8.5. The thing is people have been starved for decent single player narrative driven experiences, so when a decent one comes along they overhype it.
I beat 1-3 on the hardest difficulty multiple times and I couldn't play this one for more than 4 or 5 hours because of how slow the beginning was. This game is gorgeous, but I just hated the walking parts so much that I gave up on it. I never do that. Knowing now that it picks up a lot not too much longer after my stopping point I'll have to try it again. You'd think 1.8k people could respect 1 persons opinion enough to not thumbs down this video. haha.
I for one agree greatly. Especially when it comes to the copy paste enemies, and the lack of finishers that could have been potentially added in the game.
10 months later...and I have literally never bothered to go back to this game since launch. Not sure I’ll ever really play it again due to its slow pacing and mediocre straightforward systems.
I'm very upset that I can never be critical with any video games I play, like it's sounds stupid to say that but I'm always so content and satisfied with almost anything that's thrown to me like, even when I don't like something in a game, the good parts always trump the bad, I always appreciate the efforts I can see being put into these things, idk I just feel like a fool for just liking everything I play sometimes
Its alright. I'm like it too. I just want myself to not be complacent with what I know since at times... I feel like I'm undervaluing or not appreciateing the finer things in life. So I want betterment.
So according to Caddy, this is a 6/10 but The Last of Us is a 10/10? (Now that everyone's comparing GoW with TLoU...) That's completely unjustified. If you want to compare this game and TLoU, at least do it well - there is no way The Last of Us is better than God of War. Sure, one may prefer TLoU's theme - but everything in God of War was done better, from the world, characters, gameplay, combat, father-son dynamic, and scale. The sheer amount of effort that went into this game is massive, and way bigger than the last of us. This is coming from a guy that bought both games at launch day - and I love both games. But this is just stupid. Sure, you may think it may not be deserving of a 10/10, but at the very least, an 8/10. Giving this a 6 but giving TLoU a 10 is just ridiculous. Caddicarus, you're still my favorite youtuber, however I really think you were nit-picking in most parts of the video. I do agree with the ridiculous amount of bosses (this can be understood for both ways): too much copy-paste trolls, ancients and valkyries and a small quantity of unique bosses. Also the lack of finishing moves was disappointing to me Now about the "game telling you about Thor and Odin and you expecting to fight them": that's pure nitpicking. In God of War 2, it was all about going back in time so you could get to Zeus and kill him, the entire game is dedicated to be able to travel back in time so you can face him; however you only TRULY face him in God of War 3. Come on Caddy, you got to give a new trilogy time. You can't expect to be fighting the big leagues right away in the first game!
hyhhyhth hfggfgg Not my problem if you didnt get your desired fanservice. Wait for the trilogy to evolve. God of War 2 also ended in a massive cliffhanger, even bigger than this one.
I dunno Caddy. I get why you're disappointed by the ending and bosses, and I know this is not a true excuse, but the first God of War barely had any bosses either. It was just the Hydra, Minotaur, and Ares. Along with the fact that you don't fight all of the iconic Greek pantheon, heroes, or monsters until the later sequels. So I don't think it's fair to compare GoW to at least III due to the fact that it's the climax of a trilogy against the Greek gods and Titans. Being redundant, but you don't fucking fight Odin or Thor in the first game of this new mythology. That's too soon. Just like how you don't fight Zeus or Cronos until GoW III. I dunno. Anybody have any rebuttals?
Tanapoom Yamsakul Well the bosses in God of War 3 were never hinted to be bosses in the first game. And mind you, you do fight Zeus in God of War 2, but I digress. The first god of war game never hinted at Zeus or any bosses in God of War 3 as bosses. They were actually allies, giving Kratos their powers to stop Ares. Ares was the only indicated boss that Kratos needed to fight. In God of 4, however, Thor and Odin is constantly named dropped throughout he game, but you never interact with them and you constantly hear about them in negative lights. It would be like God of War 2 not ending with a boss fight against Zeus and the game ending with the Titan army cutscene after Kratos kills Athena. Odin and Thor are sequel bait, at worst, and that makes things like enemy variety and lack of spectacular boss fights all the more insulting.
Ora Saikatsu IMO i think the reason Thor and Odin were mentioned alot in lore is because theyre trying to explain norse mythology, norse mythology although used in many games is not well explored and simply other game developers take elements from it, people only know norse pantheon cause of marvel's norse universe. Atleast thats what i think
+Drill Knight76 you mostly only hear about Thor and Odin when riding in the boat with Mimir while he tells stories and Jötnar Shrines (which are basically prophesied stories as well). I knew you wouldn't fight them in this game and every one should've toned down their expectations. The game has a very solid journey and ends right where it needs to.
Drill Knight76 Well talking about Odin and Thor as elements of world building is different than the game actively presenting them as villainous characters, which the latter is something the game did do. A lot of caddy's issues from the game is the lack of any visually creative boss fights, which is a staple of the God of War series (despite the first game not having many) so a game where you only fight Boldr and Thor's sons seems kind of a let down, especially since the enemy variety is already piss poor as it is
I love the way you present your opinions, even with the preface that a game disappointed you, you're constantly complimenting it on the things it does right too. It makes for a very balanced viewpoint.
The enemy variety is the biggest issue I had with the game. The troll boss was cool the first time, but when you fight him 10 more times, he's not that great anymore.
Helmaroc Yup! This is why old God of War is better
Yup! In THOSE games you fought the troll boss 50 more times!
50 times better! DERP!
Anime is Trash, I'd still say this is the best God of War, but it's not the 10/10 everyone was claiming it to be
Anime is Trash you can't compare it to the old one especially when it comes to enemies, the new game has much higher detail and better animations the old games didn't have to worry about detail because of how far the camera was away.

It's always nice to see your comments, CN
I'd probably give it a 7
17:20 Ok I’m sorry but were we playing the same game??? Because after Atreus’s outburst it doesn’t go back too just normal dialogue. Atreus gives Kratos attitude until they have a small heart too heart. It was more about the way Atreus talked and not really about what he was saying.
BigSteve258 He only got the superiority attitude after kratos reveled that god blood is running throw his veins
not when kratos enters the alfheim light... and he did show you a clip to backup his point
It would be like you getting to fight thor here and then afterwards you're son dies afterwich you give chase to Thor to avenge him
in the sequel.

Is it really controversial if it’s true.
I'm all for people enjoying the game if they like it, but I do think a lot of valid points like the ones you bring up are being ignored because people just REALLY want it to be a 10/10 masterpiece and can't accept that a game with such a huge name and huge marketing is just alright. The fact that people can say it's a perfect game despite shit like the dumbass walking segments or the absolutely pathetic boss lineup just seems like people getting more into the hype than the game itself.
.

Well the first game in the original series only had like 2 or 3 fights with gods to be fair.
@@SPM0717 But what it lacked in bosses, it made up with fun high energy hacknslash gameplay the series became known for, arguably the best told and only completely selfcontained story in the entire franchise, topnotch level-design and well paced epic quest build around memorable moments and epic set-pieces.

He liked it. Just didn't adore it.
He gave it a 6
I was kinda shocked but it's his opinion so...
Thicc Ben I'm not kidding when I say this is one of the most reasonable things I've read on the internet. Good on you.

After everything is said and done you give it a 6/10. I think that's a fair score given the points you made for and against this game. I personally feel that it's a 7 or 8, but what I look for in a game is different from your honest opinion. Good video!
Why do you think it's worth a 7 or 8?
I thought this was extremely obvious.
poor excuse
mohamed abdelfatah not a poor excuse. If you could freely jump around and rotate the camera willy nilly, atreus would be much more of a burden because either he'd have to be glued to your ass the whole time, get an awkward speed boost to try to follow you quickly, or not be a core gameplay element. Think of any other follower system with a free moving camera and tell me one that works as seamlessly as gow 4.
your stupidity knows no limits . i don't argue with fanboys

My problems were the boss clones and the ending being so abrupt, i would put it in the range of 8.5
The helheim boss being a re-skinned troll as well, made me so angry to this day that I'd put it at 6/10
8.5 is a fair score. 6 is not.
GOW4 looks like their first try at emotional hack n slash games. It wasn't perfect, but it did a good job, in my opinioin. I wanna see if GOW5 can be even better than this one.

rupin kanet I see
Welcome to internet.
If you blindly praise any game, then there's a risk of developers keeping all the flaws or making the sequal feel exactly the same
I can see your point of view, but personally it’s the game of the year so far for me. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty spectacular nonetheless.
Let us be reminded that Yooka Laylee (7/10) is a better game, according to Caddicarus.

Hicky McGee for having a stupid opinion, you do know you can have a wrong opinion right? His opinion is wrong, this game is factually a fantastic game

Lets burn this man at the stake.
i'm very very sad that 9 months on, this type of comment never died down
Game was great, but I didn't like it as much as others either. I had way more fun with Yakuza 6. I kept playing that over God of War.
aZombieDictator kiryuuuuuuuuu
Kiryu vs Kratos
He's right about one thing:
Giving this game perfect 10s across the board is ridiculous.
I still remember the original title. “a huge disappointment?”
Then changed to “is it a 10/10?” Before whatever it is now.
He mentioned on twitter how he was pressured to change it. He still finds it a huge disappointment.
Funny thing is... I prefer this God of War over the Last of us for... exactly the same reasons.
Lazbat he never said that he likes this god of war over last of us.
Without i know... our opinions differ for the same reasons.
This is a 25 minute video; "exactly the same reasons" is way too vague, I have no idea what you mean by that.
Throwback to when this video was called God of Disappointment.
Playing this game makes me want to play the older games again has they were way better imo.
Honest reviews are honestly the best ones. Mad props for doing this, Caddy 👏👏
Reviews should only ever be honest, period.
This is probably the best "negative" GoW review I've seen. TheGamingBritShow did one too, but his review felt too cynical and bitter. You at least acknowledged the good stuff in the game.
Caddy, why you change the title? "God of disappointment" is way better
Harry indeed He changed it so people would actually watch the review and maybe come to understand why he has the opinion he does rather than simply clicking, disliking and stating that he only did it for click bait
Epic Marschmallow
Well obviously dude, people are all idiots online and would, for lack of a better phrase "judge a book by it's cover" and dislike it immediately.
MH Sess he never said his points were fact, he stated million times that this is his opinion withing his video, however i do argue some points he brought up are *facts* like reused boss fights with different skin, and no he said he just like it not loved it
The Gaming Brit did it first and with more detale.
Lol there was no walking bits in the past games
You know, you keep saying that you aren't bothered by scores and such, but then you go on and talk about how you are bothered by this game getting such high scores and reviews.
You have always kind of come off like this where you get mad that a game is getting high scores and you "don't understand or see it"
at the very least, you do explain yourself in terms of your criticisms towards the game.
Less bothered from what I saw and more confused...
I disagree with a lot of your points, but you have explained them well. Good review.
Also while the story has always been good I feel like there was a major step up
It's unfortunate that opinions like yours aren't going to be appreciated till months/years after the hype has died down.
This is a damn good video about this game. Just a straight, no bullcrap, put your pitchforks down piece. Thank you sir.
I just don't know where the shift of this culture of arbitrary score count came from
, but is very much at odds with the "value your own opinion" type mindset that is seen not only in this comment section but everywhere else. 6 is good but can be improved, I disagree with Caddy mind you, but this mentality will linger because a game is looked at as a test in school.
GoW4 isn't a 10. It has its issues but it's a 9 or 8 @ worst.
Love me my boy Caddy, but I really dislike how he calls all his videos that are 2 years old or more "[OLD]", like the video is completely fine, value the work you've put into stuff you've done in the past, bro.
Caddy be like "That's way too many subs."
How would he know it's going to be a chore for him to play, if he doesn't try and play it?...
don’t listen to the haters caddy
treat yerself and review something you actually like
he likes the game tho?
Hmm why'd you change the title from "God of Disappointment"? 🤔
I’d personally give this game a 9/10
I loved it, I personally think it is the best god of war game and one of the best games I ever played. Do I think it is perfect? No...not at all, but I personally think that most of the bad stuff doesn’t come close to affecting my enjoyment of it
Again it isn’t perfect, but all of the points caddy makes are valid criticism.
You can have your own rating, like me, but don’t hate on Caddy!
IAm Glitch i disagree but understand every criticism he makes mad respect it
Seeing almost every review giving it 10/10 feels rather odd.
Dumb_Woof , exactly
Have you ever interacted with a fanbase on the internet? What's with this retarded trend of calling people who agree on a few things a "hive mind" anyway?
Raven Reyes PTZ honestly. The combat in that game is so shallow and boring
Raven Reyes PTZ You don’t know what a good game looks like if you think Witcher 3 is worse than this overhyped garbage.
Title change mid watching? o.o My word
"Going in with no expectations of this game this game is a big dissapointment" How can you be dissapointed by a game you have no expectations for?
I’d say your review of this game is very fair. I myself absolutely adore this game, have played it for hours on end. But yes all of the issues you are talking about I myself have noticed and acknowledge them, and yes some of the a can be really annoying.
But I hope after this you consider doing a review of Days Gone, I think that might be interesting for you as well.
Thank you for mentioning how *S L O W* this game is!! I couldn't even get halfway through it, while I can replay the other GOW games over and over and over again with no problem
God of War 4 was a *huge* disappointment
You didnt even played it dude
@@fredy2041 Lmaooo
I've beaten this game twice, once on God of War mode and again on God of War new game+. I loved it but I never want to play it again.
Before watching, no, it's a solid 8, perhaps an 8.5.
The thing is people have been starved for decent single player narrative driven experiences, so when a decent one comes along they overhype it.
More like Dad of Disappointment, right?
Don't think I didn't see that title change daddy...
I did really like the game but everything you said was definitely true..
The finishers in my opinion the worst finishers in the god of war series
10 months later...and I have literally never bothered to go back to this game since launch.
Not sure I’ll ever really play it again due to its slow pacing and mediocre straightforward systems.
I'm very upset that I can never be critical with any video games I play, like it's sounds stupid to say that but I'm always so content and satisfied with almost anything that's thrown to me like, even when I don't like something in a game, the good parts always trump the bad, I always appreciate the efforts I can see being put into these things, idk I just feel like a fool for just liking everything I play sometimes
Abel Rams I wish I was less critical with games. Lol
Its alright. I'm like it too. I just want myself to not be complacent with what I know since at times... I feel like I'm undervaluing or not appreciateing the finer things in life. So I want betterment.
Yuni X2 sad
@@samuelolivier3792 It is, but I'm not going to stay like it for long. I hope.
Ya I kinda do feel the same as you alot but I do have games I massively prefer over others
this is the ONE review of this game i agree with
So according to Caddy, this is a 6/10 but The Last of Us is a 10/10? (Now that everyone's comparing GoW with TLoU...)
That's completely unjustified.
Also the lack of finishing moves was disappointing to me
Now about the "game telling you about Thor and Odin and you expecting to fight them": that's pure nitpicking. In God of War 2, it was all about going back in time so you could get to Zeus and kill him, the entire game is dedicated to be able to travel back in time so you can face him; however you only TRULY face him in God of War 3. Come on Caddy, you got to give a new trilogy time. You can't expect to be fighting the big leagues right away in the first game!
fuck off sheer amount of effort is no excuse if there are some fundamental flaws lol
this game constantly harks on about thor and you don't even get to face him let alone kill him
hyhhyhth hfggfgg Not my problem if you didnt get your desired fanservice. Wait for the trilogy to evolve. God of War 2 also ended in a massive cliffhanger, even bigger than this one.
you say you don't expect to fight the big leagues, but if you combine the length of GOW 1,2,3 it more or less equals the length of this game. so...
hyhhyhth hfggfgg Im comparing. Im not saying I wanted to fight the big leagues of the others early. Im just showing how hypocrite people are
Thank you for being one of the few to speak up. I completely agree.
i love the fact that you changed the video title not once, but TWICE
This is one of the best reviews of this game, bravo for putting it like it is.
A lot of caddy's issues from the game is the lack of any visually creative boss fights, which is a staple of the God of War series (despite the first game not having many) so a game where you only fight Boldr and Thor's sons seems kind of a let down, especially since the enemy variety is already piss poor as it is
U nailed it. Nuff said.
I can't tell you how many times I've screamed at the game "who's the fuckhead who chose this camera system!"
Donovaneagle2098 Probably Cory....
I love the way you present your opinions, even with the preface that a game disappointed you, you're constantly complimenting it on the things it does right too. It makes for a very balanced viewpoint.
