Thomas put music to "The life and times of Scrooge Macduk" By Don Rosa. Joanna sings in a track from the album called "A lifetime of adventure". The track was put out as a single and there is a great video of it on youtube. Rely worth a look.
The other female voice in 'A Lifetime of Adventure' is Johanna Iivanainen, another Finn. And her husband Mikko Iivanainen plays guitar and banjo on that album. Here's a link to the official video: * Tuomas Holopainen - A Lifetime of Adventure: ruclips.net/video/JWwSVOo5K_k/видео.html And here's some more of Tuomas's wife, this time in her solo project (a Finnish tv special): * Johanna Kurkela - Lyhty: ruclips.net/video/V3Yk4DB1V0Y/видео.html That's 'Lantern' in English. Playlist above has also few other 'Christmasy songs' from Johanna. For example, 'Oi joulunajan ihmiset' means something like "Oh people of Christmas time". That one is based on some old Irish hymn, with Finnish lyrics.
Listening to the album as a whole, you can see this was a hint at where the Nightwish album we now have would go, creatively speaking. Johanna has a beautiful and haunting quality to her voice. You could easily draw direct lines from Enya/Clannad to Auri, and where Nightwish are now. Auri is also the name of Floor's newest horse.
"Lightwish"! If you like this, I'm sure you'll like Altamullan Road as well. That's a duo of 2 Johanna's: this one (Kurkela) and another one ( Iivanainen). They recently released their debut album, also called Altamullan Road. It's beautiful!!
I've been listening to this song on repeat as of late. Johanna has another band project just released a few months ago that you might really love called, Altamullan Road. It is VERY similar to AURI and consists of her and her friend Johanna Iivanainen who has been a singing partner for a few years now. They both sang on Tuomas's song, "A Lifetime of Adventure" from his "The Life and Times of Scrooge (McDuck)". P.S. Johanna designed the AURI logo.
In one interview Tuomas Holopainen told that writing songs for AURI was the break he needed to start working on new material for Nightwish. It also sounds that he took some Celtic/folk influences from Auri to Nightwish's 2020 album "Human.:II: Nature". P.S. Tuomas & his wife Johanna have a treasure map on their bedroom wall. They use it to map their dreams & goals in life.
This my favourite song of the album. And reminds me of Limahl "Neverending Story" of the '80s... Johanna has a wonderful "nordic" voice that perfectly matches Tuomas music and lyrics. As Troy once said: "nobody creates athmospheres like Tuomas" and I absolutely agree.
Yay! Someone else feels that too! If you want to hear a song that sounds even MORE like "A Neverending Story", check out "They Should Have Sent a Poet," from Johanna's other band project, Altamullan Road.
If, by any chance, you are or were a fan of Scrooge McDuck, you need to know that Tuomas has written a whole album inspired by his tales, especially the ones written by Don Rosa ("Life and times of Scooge McDuck"). The official video for the song "Tuomas Holopainen - A Lifetime of Adventure" features Don Rosa himself drawing the artwork for the album title and the song is great (Johanna sings that, too)!
Johanna Troy and Tuomas are great friends and know exactly what suits each other . There are some fantastic interviews with them . Johanna writes her stuff Troy his and Tuomas his then they merge it tweak it and it all fits perfectly. As if they are in Vulcan Mind Synergy .
The whole Auri album is just beautiful. Night 13 is another one I can highly recommend but the rest is just as good, just with different moods. The name "Auri" and several of the song titles and contents refer to the fantasy novel series "The Kingkiller Chronicle" by Patrick Rothfuss, which is a great read, but the final book of the trilogy is sadly still missing.
Your pronunciation of AURI is right! This song is from their 1st album in 2018, and the 2nd album is coming in 2021. I see that someone already recommended DESERT FLOWER, which showcases both Johanna and Troy's vocals, I will try to point you to another project by Johanna with another Finnish singer Johanna Iivanainen called ALTAMULLAN ROAD. Their single WHEN IT'S TIME goes a similar way with THE SPACE BETWEEN with more flavour of nordic folk vibe
The whole album is fantastic, but I especially love "Desert Flower" with Troy singing. The pretty girl is Johanna. The CD booklet attributes all songs as written, arranged and produced by Auri.
Thanks guys! Johanna has/had a long and great career before she married Tuomas. She has performed also in different "combos", like with Marko, Jarkko Ahola, JP. Leppäluoto, Toni Kakko, Johanna Iivanainen ("a lifetime of adventure") etc... Best regards from Finland
always great to see auri react and this song truly sounds so beautiful. auri get second album in these days out ;) johanna have uniq voice and fit this kinda music very good. ok thanx and have great weekend there.
Johana has a Sally Oldfield vibe to her! Whoa...just as I typed this, you mentioned Mike Oldfield!! Are you psychic?! ;-) The music, especially towards the end reminds me of Giorgio Moroder. That ties in with Mike saying it has an eighties vibe to it.
the Pretty Girl is Johanna who also plays the violin. New album finished and is in production stage (the three had to do something with the lockdowns). and adding my urging to listen to Lifetime Of Adventure - linkage!: ruclips.net/video/JWwSVOo5K_k/видео.html [edit] Oh, and I think Troy loves Johanna's voice almost as much as Tuomas and Johanna love each other.
This is the first track on the album "Auri" (2018). Johanna Kurkela has over a decade long quite succesfull singing career in Finland (in Finnish). She has a very beautiful but a little fragile voice (maybe so much use in metal 😉). On an interview Floor revealed that she wish that "Night 13" from this album will played at her funeral (let them be very far). "Auri ll" album is recorded, but we don't know the release date yet. Beautiful song and a beautiful reaction.👍
Nightwish vibes - singer is Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas Holopainen is her husband and there's also Troy Donocley - dunno how many tracks that multi-insturmentalist plays, atleast whistle, maybe guitar....
The CD booklet has Johanna on voices and viola; Tuomas on keys and backing voices; Troy on acoustic and electric guitars, bouzouki, uillean pipes, low whistles, aerophone, bodhran, keys and voices.
We knew you two would like this collaboration. The background of these three getting together is a fascinating story and they share it in an interview in English. You are canadian, is it not? Then you should lookup Loreena McKennit, realy beautiful music from Canada with canadian musicians and very much celtic influences. Saw her live more than one time in Amsterdam and it was awesome.
