Can we just appreciate for a moment that the Wheel of Fortune sound effect when they're choosing decks is actually synced to the arrows passing onto another color? Excellent editing work there, Kyle.
"Stephen will sign your baby with a knife."
"Not at the booth."
Standards
The Susan shot from Rocky Horror was primo. Well done, Director Kyle.
i love the charicterization of director kyle he was slowly built into the episodes as a member and now he’s growing into an integral commentary
I have watched every episode of Commander VS and this is without doubt my favourite you guys have ever done. So much interaction and watching Jon not only get out of his comfort zone/actually enjoy himself in a game!!!!!
Well done fellows, lovin it!
I honestly lost it when Jeremy revealed Ramos, because I also have an “oops all charms” deck. Also this episode was absolutely genius, I love weird funky decks. Keep it up!
Me too thanks
Justin and co, this was one of the funniest games to watch in a long time! Thank you!
Not just funny but also enjoyable, riveting even!
Holden Smith Thank you for watching!
Holden is a silly boy.
It was great meeting you guys this weekend and i cant thank you guys enough for everything you do fornthe comunity ans thanks for signing my mat guys cant wait for wed video and ill post the mat pick on the next episode
I've only watched the intro part so far, but those look like FUN decks. GJ with the quality Randharmonicon (Or Arena of the Arbitrary (Or Colosseum of Randomness (Or Randomonium (Or Secrets of Susan))) submissions!
Is it just me or the last 3 episodes are the best mtg content on the channel? :D
I haven't seen the full video yet, but that Endless Whispers trigger resolves until end of turn... that's actually a huge deal. I hope you guys catch that soon.
Oh you didn't D:
Heart breaking for Mr. Noell....another instance of them probably needing some form of 'judge', mis-reading of cards has ended games more times than it has
The game would have been so different if triggered correctly, not only the Phage, but Jon returning stuff with skullwinder and mnemonic wall was also pretty significant, it actually cost Stephen the game as well since it got Jon that sorcery back. I mean, it was still a fun game to watch!
Andrés Cravioto it doesn't resolves until end of turn. It resolves at the end of turn
A while back, they misplayed Grave Betrayal in the same manner. Unfortunate, but I still love watching.
i felt so bad for Jeremy when he lost at the 55 minute mark and there still an hour and 5 left in the video but it was hilarious.
48:10
Love the moment of pure glee on Justin's face. ^~^
#teamparnell #4ever
Hey guys. Great match, as per usual. I've got a suggestion for a weird type of match. Select a spell to be your commander. The more obscure the more fun it could be, for instance, Last Stand, Star of Extinction, Primal Surge, Crush of Tentacles, etc. Same rules apply, i.e. the commander spells' cost goes up with each use.
Endless Whispers returns the creature to someone else at END OF TURN.
Slothery They are professionals, of course they won’t see that.
Stephen doesn't enjoy reading the cards
and people wonder why game knights has a judge and isnt live
Phage wasnt changed to "Deathtouch" because she says "combat damage". Deathtouch applies to all damage. This is why you attach Thornbite Staff to Glissa and machine gun all creatures.
Great stuff as always guys was cracking up the whole time!
Love the Price is Right sound effect on Susan. Gj Director Kyle
1:05:00 Just fyi, Deathtouch and Phage's ability are far more dissimilar than you guys think. Deathtouch simply means that all damage that the creature with damage deals is considered "lethal damage". A creature that is dealt damage by a source with deathtouch is destroyed by state based actions. Phage on the other hand produces a triggered ability. This difference means that in combat, you could stifle the trigger Phage produces after damage is dealt, while a creature with deathtouch kills any creature it dealt damage without the possibility of countering that.
Sadly I can’t go to Atlanta this weekend but I’m sending cards with a friend to get signed along with my playmat and my commander to get signed by all of you 🙂
You should do more where everyone plays the same strategy. Next one go with 4 player superfriends :D! Commanders: Narset, Atraxa, Maelstrom Wanderer or Yidris, and one 5 colour superfriends (either sliver queen, or Ramos or something).
Quote from Steven Green "I'll sign a a baby wherever you want"
I really liked that all these decks were actually viable. As cute as chair tribal is, it's a fun five minute joke, but this was just a great two hour video. It was just a good set of games. I enjoy the themes week-to-week, but it's more like the EDH I know to just have four random decks show up
31:51 This right here, these shenanigans are why I watch Commander Vs.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Two headed giant: Cats vs Rats. Justin and Jon as the
kitties (Justin with mirri the cursed of course and Jon with either a mirri or Jareth or something) vs Jeremy and Stephen with Rats (Marrow Gnawer and Ink-Eyes)
Koby Haigerty This is pretty good.
Great idea, minus the fact of the cat that gives all cats protection from rats 😕 hungry lynx
Ugh, please no 2hg, just let it die; sounds amazing on paper, is horrible in execution
Oh my god Justin, did you say sedris. Thank you! It's finally happening. Just as I dreamed
Steven has a point there! Justin consciously decided to mill jon out instead of killing him with creatures. I think Justin actually likes mill, but doesn't want to admit it and that's why he fights it so much.
Justin managed to build 2 of my favorite generals of all time, I can't wait to see this episode! #TeamGreen.... also I'm ordering puggernaut sleeves as I'm typing this :D
*edit I also love seeing videos 2+hours, always means 2 hours of great entertainment
I appreciate the Community reference at the end
@1:24:50 "What We Do In The Shadows" is a great movie. You guys should watch Eagle vs Shark, also by Taika Waititi.
There was so much jank in this game...
I loved it
Justin, mill them all!
At about 1:15:00 they start talking about "what Stephen missed" which had something to do with Phage/Cryptoplasm and (maybe?) Vizier of Many Faces? I still don't get it. Someone explain?
Jeremy should play a momir vig deck, and I'm still waiting for a shared fate deck.
Thatd be lovely
Has Rosheen Meanderer been done? if not i think it be cool in a ramp burn deck with mirrari, pyromancer's goggles, wild ricochet, commetstorm, bonfire, etc. Astral cornucopia too because why not right?
the reason that phage doesn't have "deathtouch" is because it says combat damage and regeneration. If I deal one damage outside of combat with a creature with deathtouch then the creature I pinged will die. That is not the case with phage.
Haha it's okay Justin! I too know how it feels to be picked on for the reaction. But hey, just remember that us black mana based mages of the game always remember, and we always keep track. 😝
You guys are legit playing my four (five?) commanders. That’s so weird!
they didn't give Phage deathtouch because deaththouch triggers from any kind of damage not just just combat damage which is what Phage's ability refers to.
They also didn't give Phage deathtouch because Phage predates deathtouch's existense
I like that Chekov's Nerf Gun on the wall. I hope this means that we'll get to see the Nerf War promo played sometime in the future.
Next time you do one of these, you should make a deck that has all the search your library effects. Try to get them to lose points on the search.
Tyler Denison would that be fun to watch?
You could see Jeremy holding back the bitterness XD
Not only do I have a thrasios/vial smasher deck, but I also have a lasav deck that only plays my opponents cards! this is great
Do you guys ever post the deck techs of the decks you play?
Here's an idea, you guys: Full 5-color shenanigans. I know this has been done before as an April Fools joke, but Ramos has reminded me of my 5-color Wall deck (super fun btw) and my 5-color Hyperfriends deck, also headed by Ramos. I propose this: 4 Ramos decks go in, 1 comes out. That, and I can submit my 2 rainbow lists for you guys if you run out of ideas
When spinning the wheel to choose between two decks, choose even and odds.
Endless Whispers (or any triggered effect that returns a creature to the battlefield when it dies) says "at the end of turn", to avoid stupid ETB sac a creature loops.
Great video! As already noted major misplay on the enchantment, but still pretty fun to watch.
Not relevant atm, but maybe for the in-between season episode you could have some guest-stars, maybe do a 5-player game. Cool seeing how you guys have a different dynamic without the points.
I think the search rule should be modified. Been kinda cringing every time I see anyone lose a point for it. I understand it's to prevent people from reading every card in their deck as they look for a solution with a tutor, but it's painful when someone loses a point because they've only 40 seconds to find multiple cards in a deck they didn't even build.
If you guys are worried about the audience getting bored during minute+ long searches, you could edit it out or try to have interesting conversation during the search.
Omg he put phage fractured identity in that deck. That combo is one I've always wanted to run
Sorta wanted charm tribal to win
around the 1:16:00 mark, what is it stephen could have done but didn't? i'm slightly lost.
avengedbulletromance Stephens Vizier of Many Faces was a Greenwarden of Murasa. He could have sac'd the Greenwarden to altar of dementia to return phage to his hand.
Justin i fuckin love you dude as soon as i saw fractured identity i wanted to do it on phage thank you so much!!!
Giecolizard I did it for you fam
As soon as I'd seen Fractured Identity I wanted to cast it on Ink-Treader Nephilim.
Everyone's creature board-state becomes their opponents board-state.
Holy crap, as the owner of a Ramos' multicolor extravaganza that already has Phage and Fractured Identity, how in the hell did I miss Ink-Treader Nephilim????
Damn you guys really needed to read Endless Whispers.
I really wanted to see that ramos charm tribal for a long time aaaaaand the whispers said nope
That’s a cool shirt Stephen’s wearing. Does anyone know where to get it?
Can you guys do a banned commander episode?
They should do it with Griselbrand, Leovold, Emrakul (Aeons Torn), and either Braids or Rofellos.
Rofellos, for sure! And then generate enough mana to cast Emrakul on turn three :P
I can't wait to see how nontoxic this Sen Triplets deck is :)
My friend has a Blue-Black version of Justin's deck. He calls it "I don't like my deck, let me play yours."
I have a Sidisi deck so I'm excited for Jonathan.
Ramos Charms seems like a silly but viable strategy.
And OMG I want to do the "Fractured Phage" win using my Kynaios & Tiro deck.
You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
I think unofficial partners could be interesting. I got the idea because I thought Yisan and Jalira should be allowed as co-commanders. But I think randomized "partner" commanders could be fun.
What about a special round with the legendary enchantment flip cards from ixalan? I think that would be pretty cool ^^
Tribal Charms
This is probably the latest I've watched a CMDRVS episode yet (damn you real life). Still, obligatory #TeamParnell post!
Hey are you guys coming to GP Atlanta?
Justin Gaddison On our way there now!
Justin Parnell Awesome can't wait to meet you guys
Vizier of Many Faces entering the battlefield under Justin's control as Phage should have killed Justin. Suarez even points this out, when Stephen is trying to figure out what it should be when it re-enters under his control. I am fairly certain Justin realizes this at the 1:00:00 mark, but he conveniently doesn't say anything.
Good Point.
But he didn't cast Phage. He cast Vizier of Many Faces, it just entered the battlefield as Phage.
You guys should do a game of thrones edition. That wall at 41:55 with the wolf looks like the wall in the north.
Shouldn't Endless Whispers be exiled? Or did Anguished Unmaking leave the stack when Jeremy died?
So the rules for losing, in multiplayer, are slightly different, as they have to be in a game designed, initially, for two players, and are found under 800.4, To answer your questions: No, and Yes.
For a condensed version of 800.4: Every single object which they own? Poof, out of the game entirely, not even in exile. Every non-card thing on the stack they are responsible for? Gone. Every effect giving them control over something? Terminated (They return to the player they were taken from). Anything that player controls after all that is dealt with is placed into exile. Endless Whispers control over a creature falls under the final category, as it enters the battlefield controlled by the player.
The rest of 800.4 is basically cleanup, The 'player' who is not there any more, does nothing(After everything has gone away, no effects can be put on the stack, nothing can fall under their control, etc), nothing can be done to them(Combat damage, for instance), if it's their turn, it's ran the rest of the way through without them interacting with priority.
(Disclaimer, ain't a judge, do yer own research if you're really curious, but I like to think I summed it up well enough.)
As has been endlessly pointed out, they were completely misplaying Endless Whispers. Each creature gets a triggered ability to choose a player, then a delayed trigger which goes on the stack at the end of turn.
The entire game they played as though it was immediate so it completely warped the nature of the game. So yes, if they were playing correctly Anguished Unmaking would have resolved and Jeremy wouldn't have lost the game until the end of turn unless someone had a way to exile phage from stephen's graveyard.
That being said, the way they were playing Endless Whispers was entertaining and at least they were consistent. Kinda funny to see 4 people have the same misconception and I'm pretty sure Jon picked it up and read it at one point.
Actually the wording on phage is not deathtouch because it says 'COMBAT damage to a creature', while deathtouch is any type of damage.
Can i get a deck list of the copycat and phage deck?
Stephen looks like the lead singer of ELO without the Afro
I'm sure I just missed something, but why did Stephen sac Sen Triplets after his first cast?
Lol. Endless whispers says at the end of the turn.
Endless Whispers should have been exiled. The delayed trigger it causes "return to the battlefield at the end of turn" still goes on the stack but Anguished Unmaking is still on the stack from Jeremy til the stack resolve. He still dies at the end of turn but it removed endless whispers which does alter the game.
Why dont cast a kicked Rite of Replication on Gray Merchant? Because of Mill is prefered?
Pfifferling Schmächtich I wouldn't say preferred, just more appropriate.
Pfifferling Schmächtich Because killing one with their own strategy is preferred... (Jon was playing self-mill, so Justin was just helping him out...) ^~^
I'm absolutely losing my mind at the sen triplets deck techa
I wonder if they'll start next week by acknowledging how they completely messed up the careless whispers
endless whispers should have been exiled to anguished unmaking due to the fact that that triggers the creature to come back at the end of turn, so jeremy wouldn't die till the end of turn letting the exile resolve
Phage is still different to deathtouch, even without the regeneration clause, because Phage's ability is triggered, so it goes on the stack, wheras with deathtouch the creatures just die to the damage
800.4a. When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game, any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end, and all spells and abilities controlled by that player on the stack cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game.
When Stephen had phage, endless whispers, and a sac outlet, he had a combo assembled in play. He gives someone phage from grave at the end of turn, and then they lose, and this rule gives him back phage, and since she is already in play, her losing etb doesn't trigger. He then loops it for each turn, not killing everyone in the same turn.
It still grinds my gears that people still get dinged for long searches playing each others' decks, unless they have decklists they can't really have anything in mind for what to grab
A printed decklist should accompany it.
This game was so much fun to watch :)
Wait, they say Stephen will lose if the Vizer clone card comes into play as a Phage, but then why didn't Justin lose when he brought it in as a Phage and made the Legend Rule sac?
Two game series. Two vs two then following game switch teams. Your teammate builds a deck for the other person to play. Decks are built before teammates are picked.
on my way to GP Atlanta, see you there.
37:00 in and I really really want justin to make the third sheoldred with ego
If Jeremy had spit Second card no would die because Steven couldn’t respond to it unless sac a creature a special action?
stephen's shirt is awesome, where can i get that?
Now is the time to jam! Stephen Verde.
Begun, the mill wars have!
Where did Stephen get that shirt?
Darkest Timeline Justin! Yeaaaaaaaaah!
Um how does Justin not lose to cytoplasm becoming a phage?
If you mean the cryptoplasm, then it BECOMES Phage during upkeep, thus it wouldn't trigger the ETB Ability. If you're referring to Vizier of Many Faces, then it comes into play as Phage, but it was cast from hand so no loss.
Be Crytoplasm is already on the battlefield.
He should, however, have lost to Vizier of Many Faces trigger.
He did cast the Vizier from his hand. That's why the Phage ETB-ability doesn't trigger.
Phage never "enters the battlefield", cytoplasm simply becomes a copy of her.
Deathtouch also doesn't care about combat damage. Any damage is good enough. So not *just* the reanimation clause
Justin renigged on his no milling clause lmao!!! Im still pushing for Jeremy to play my deck #PlaymydeckJeremy
Why is there not more outrage about mishandling the endless whispers trigger. I was mildly annoyed that Suarez wouldn't recast gravecrawler but when Jeremy died with anguished unmaking on the stack that was just too much.
The perfect 75 deck is what i have been looking for to stop my playgroup hating me out of games
DANIEL!!!
That's a SG1 reference
Justin attacked Stephen and Jeremy died. That's hilarious
YES!, the trembling finally is over
What did steven miss when Justin had phage on his table? how could steven use that to his advantage?
So when are you guys gonna play 4 player mill???
Alex Vreeland pretty sure they will be doing that last week, stay tuned
It was season 9 episode 5
