We will take the real estate. We can talk about keeping the Norwegian people, but I'm afraid that the Swedes will have to find another place to live. No Swedes in Denmark XD
Not to forget that Denmark stole these territories from Norway after the Kalmar union. Norway was an arctic kingdom before entering the union with control over Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands ++.
The people who originally moved there weren’t Norwegians, they were Norse. It’s just that Norway came to hold them for a while, but thankfully they came to be part of a proper nation🇩🇰
Denmark also owned the Danish West Indies currently the Virgin Islands of the United States we have population of both of there current territories combined
You tend to forget that the U.S. Virgin Islands were originally settled or colonized by Denmark before they given to the U.S. Not counting Greenland I think that the Virgin Islands were the only colonies in either North or South America that Denmark ever owned.
Not quite correct - the size is exaggerated by the Mercator projection, but Greenland is still absolutely massive. 2 million square kilometers. If it was a country it'd be the 12th biggest country in the world.
unlike Iceland, neither Faroe Islands or Greenland would be able to be completely independent, since at least under the Kingdom of Denmark they are protected, they don't have to worry about defending their borders, if any of these territories would gain independence, most likely they would either lose it again to another power that might disregard the people that live there, or in the case of Greenland their borders might not be respected, Specially by US and Russia
It is sad to think about, but Faroan might just die out or devolve due to its small native speaker population and the fact that we can see some of their sound already collapsing
I remember a weird strategy game that had the option for "baby boom" for every nation. And it always increased population by 1.5 million in 4 years. When picking Greenland Population went from 50.000 to 1.550.000 in 4 years. That's 15 kids a year. Those Greenlanders are wild
actually Greenland did have a "baby boom" from around the 1950-70ies due to improvements in health care, education and other areas. The danish authorities wanted Greenland to have the same welfare state, as they where devloping in "mainland" Denmark. That meant an increase in babies born and the survivability, but the change towards a lifestyle based on a industrial welfare state, meant a great cultural shift away from the Inuit culture where you have greater connection with nature. You could argue that this change is still ongoing and has had given rise to many social problems like alkocolism and abuse in Greenland society.
Greenland probably couldn’t yet, the Faroes could, the politicians are boneheads tho, I wouldn’t want them to lead the country, but that’s probably true for most countries.
They couldn't sustain their curreent lifestyle without denmark. That said, it's not exactly costly for Denmark. Greenlands got a population of a small village.
Calling Greenland a "county" is pretty misleading. It's not a county, it's a COUNTRY. A country under the Kingdom of Denmark, but a separate country. They have their own parliament, their own police, etc. Same goes for the Faroe Islands. The Kingdom of Denmark contains three countries: not "counties" or "colonies"

Not to forget that Denmark stole these territories from Norway after the Kalmar union. Norway was an arctic kingdom before entering the union with control over Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands ++.
Finally someone who knows their history, thank you.
Technically all three were Norwegian until 1814
Cope
Kalmar gang!
The people who originally moved there weren’t Norwegians, they were Norse. It’s just that Norway came to hold them for a while, but thankfully they came to be part of a proper nation🇩🇰
Try and make a video about New Zealand 🇳🇿 overseas territories.
Im Irish. We are told in our history that the Danish founded my city Dublin in the 8th century.
Dublin was actually founded by Norwegians
@puderkman Probably. My Surname is Bergen just like the city in Norway.
@@rolloloftbrook9558 There could definitely be a connection.
Not danes, Norwegians.
Norse is a more accurate term, but the only real ethnic group at this time was the Danes, so Dane is the most accurate term
Smooth loop 💯
Denmark also owned the Danish West Indies currently the Virgin Islands of the United States we have population of both of there current territories combined
You tend to forget that the U.S. Virgin Islands were originally settled or colonized by Denmark before they given to the U.S. Not counting Greenland I think that the Virgin Islands were the only colonies in either North or South America that Denmark ever owned.
Faroe Islands 🇫🇴- 52,000 people
Greenland 🇬🇱- 56,000 people
But the size difference💀💀
You can fit 15 Greenlands into Africa. Greenland only looks big because of how maps are drawn
Greenland was bought by business giant D J Trump, so his body mass adds to Greenland's land mass. 🙂
Not quite correct - the size is exaggerated by the Mercator projection, but Greenland is still absolutely massive.
2 million square kilometers. If it was a country it'd be the 12th biggest country in the world.
Greenland is still the world's largest island it just doesn't square up to an entire continent
unlike Iceland, neither Faroe Islands or Greenland would be able to be completely independent, since at least under the Kingdom of Denmark they are protected, they don't have to worry about defending their borders, if any of these territories would gain independence, most likely they would either lose it again to another power that might disregard the people that live there, or in the case of Greenland their borders might not be respected, Specially by US and Russia
Yeah greenlands independence just means russia or usa steps in and its either annexed or protected with military bases by one of the two.
It is sad to think about, but Faroan might just die out or devolve due to its small native speaker population and the fact that we can see some of their sound already collapsing
Finally someone gets it right, good job.
Bornholm needs to be red and white too.
The Faroe Islanders are the last people in the world to speak Old Norse.
it's not technically old norse, iceland is actually closer to old norse, faroese is the second closest tho
no, Icelanders are...
Landmines with Lego is really the strongest country on universe
I live in Denmark
Hej dansker
Hej med dansker
they were smart on how to retain the territory
I don't think they can sustain themselves without Denmark. So I think independence isn't a good idea for them.
Currently they can't. They would have to sell there soul to another country like the US if they did
Greenland probably couldn’t yet, the Faroes could, the politicians are boneheads tho, I wouldn’t want them to lead the country, but that’s probably true for most countries.
They couldn't sustain their curreent lifestyle without denmark. That said, it's not exactly costly for Denmark. Greenlands got a population of a small village.
@@only_fair23village? An average city in the Scandinavian region I would say.
It's nice to see people are stopping saying europe is a dot or some crap like that
Oh hey that's my kingdom ^^
Hej homie
It's so interesting, how two countries with that much of a difference in landmass differ in population by only around 4000 people.
Only *2000 as of 2023. The numbers used in the video are from 2021.
Tf is “counny”?
@@itsmanxzyxd5087
He probably ment to write "county".
Greenland ranked as a county (amt) within Denmark from 1953 to 1979.
@@mariannegaarde8662yes. But the video skipped that change in 1979 so I understand that it was easy to misunderstand
It's a *Constituate Country & Territory.*
It is not a "Country". Really.
It’s surprise that the UK didn’t try and take it over at some point considering it’s fairly close to then
DANMARK!!!!
As a danish person i dont know why i only knew like one of the things u just Said😅
No Greenland isn't that big, check out The True size of...
it's a map that shows you the real size of counties, Australia is way bigger then Greenland.
Denmark would still be the second biggest country in europe behind Russia if it Greenland was counted in.
@@oddchannel8452Well guess what if we count the border of Europe being the Ural river goes through Kazakhstan sus meaning Kazakhstan would be the second biggest country in Europe
Greenland is a bit smaller than Algeria.
@@zach2382 no because thats still not the whole of kazakhstan, not even close
@@oddchannel8452 do know what continent Greenland is in? North America so all I need to say is this: No that will not be the whole of Denmark in Europe not even close
To think greenland and the Faroe islands have the same population is a little crazy
Western Imperialism alive and well in 2023.
Greenland can litteraly leave whenever it want. It's parliament have had the right to call a referendum since 2009. It doesn't because Denmark pays half of its budget, plus other forms of support. The economy and living standard would collapse if it left.
Jeff is the only person in the world who is complete free of any ancestors that in any way is related to oppressors
Greenland would never survive as a self governing country. This is the best outcome for them.
DANMAAAAAAAAAAARK!!! 🇩🇰💪🇩🇰💪🇩🇰💪🇩🇰💪🇩🇰💪 NUMMER 1!!!!
LOL, be mad about nothing, crybaby.
The fact that Greenland and the Faroe Islands, having almost the exact same population but the first being like 75 times larger than the latter one. Wild.
try 1500 times larger...
2.166.000 km2 vs 1400 km2
I Don’t Care What Anyone Says But GreenLand Is A Country Not A Territory
Its literly owned by denmark
Denmark also has another island in the Baltic Sea named Bornholm, which has a population of 39,600 people.
Crazy how both greenland and faroe islands have the same amount of population yet one is colossal compared to the other.
Why did you make Greenland so massive on this map?
He didn’t make the map
😮
The fact that the moment I saw denmark, and a voice talking english, and my brain going "THEY KNOW WE EXCIST"
... we're starved for attention mate
Greenland in this map type:🍷🗿
Greenland in real live:😑
I’m from the Faroe Islands 🥰
never realized how close Greenland and the Faroe Islands are in population
I’m coming from Denmark 🇩🇰 😊
I have been in Denmark and Greenland, and hope someday to go to the Faroe Islands. I know that Greenland and Faroe Islands are autonomous countries with self-government. But which of these two (Faroe Islands and Greenland) is more independent and decides more about itself? I've always wondered about that? 🇬🇱🇫🇴
They have the same level of autonomy. The Parliament in DK, with Faroese and Greenlandic members, controls foreign, military and monetary policy. Plus the Supreme Court in Denmark os the highest court for all. Everything else is devolved to the respective Parliaments in Faroese Islands and Greenland.
@@Lin.Do.n thank you for informative answer :-)
Are they considered separate countries within a union like England, Wales and Scotland are within the UK, or are they just territories?
They are called countries, even though they’re not sovereign nations, which is what most people referred to when they use the word country
Im from egypt and faroese 😊😊😊born and raised in denmark tho 😊😊
They also did experiment on us and i still believe some small part in Denmark is still doing experiment on us
Greenland 's size : 2M Km^2
Greenland isn't as big as it looks on a flat map. South America is 9 times the size of Greenland. Flat maps stretch as they move towards the poles.
Not all flat maps, only conformal ones. Equal-area flat maps, as their name suggest, preserve areas - at the expense of angles.
I am Danish🇩🇰
Who went to the north of Greenland and said - yup, this is where I want to live
What about Bornholm? 🇩🇰
No
Autonomous referendum sounds like Oculus Flippendo!
I think they mixed greenlands and the faroe islands population
You could almost fit two Greenlands into Michigan stadium
Your Mercator projected map makes it look like Greenland is big, but it's not. Smaller than Algeria.
Yes, the smaller than the 10th largest country on earth that means Greenland so tiny
Some of the Virgin Islands used to be Danish until they were sold to the USA about a century ago...
Yeah, Denmark is only seen as a small country for those who doesn't studied about Denmark more lol
the faroe islands and Greenland almost have the same population!?!?
🧐🤔😳🤯😆👍🏻🖤👏🏻🤷🏼
i had N0 idea!!??
