its music inspired by the 80s made today. its not the original 80s synthpop. i agree that most mainstream music is generic but it seems you are mistaken there, back in the eighties the term synthwave was not even a thing. it was just pop (now synthpop).
"Dreamer '84" sounds a lot like "Nightlands" by Droid Bishop. Not necessarily calling it a rip-off or anything like that, though. I think this record is pretty great!
