The SDVR games were the ones that got me out of wrestling games. SYM was amazing, then HCTP was even better... Then they dropped the ball when they changed to SDVR. So disappointing.
NHL 10 and a few after that allowed for you to add your own music to the soundtrack. I loved nothing more than to have my Welcome to the Jungle or Thunderstruck playing as my team was skating onto the ice for the game intro. It kills me that this isn't available anymore. I don't feel ready to start a game without those rocking intros anymore! PLUS, NHL10 allowed for CHL teams. How cool is that?
The soundtracks from the MVP Baseball, THPS, And some of the Early NHL games really set my taste in music. But yeah, I’ve got to do a bit of thinking and come back to make my list.

Fun Fact when we played any of the NHL Games (my friends and I here in Germany) and any other sports game as well, we always changed the buttons and controls so that they are as similar as possible to the FIFA ones. No one used the skill stick and I think that says it all why FIFA definitely deserved number one
Absolutely love seeing Fight Night Champion on this list, bought it for Xbox 360 at an EBGames for like 3 dollars and decided to check it out and was so surprised at how amazing it was! One of the most underrated games I've played, and one of the times I was happy sports games are so "common" and cheaply priced. While I can respect the choice to have NHL 07 on the list, I personally would have gone with NHL 15 just because of how amazing and detailed the Be A GM mode was it's still one of the few NHL games I still go back and play on PS3 along with NHL 13 and NHL 09. Not sure if I've played the same FIFA 12 but I play the PSP version and absolutely love it, but had no clue about the new features that were introduced in the console version. Every other game on this list I've either had no experience playing, or in the case of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 have watched my dad play that game for many hours, many fond hours of watching my dad dominate poor CPUs that had no clue what they were getting themselves into. So thanks Bardown boys and girls for introducing me to some seemingly great sports games that I'll be sure to play sometime in the future. Quite salty that there wasn't a WWE/F game on the list given how amazing a few of them have been, especially WWE 2K14 which is still the best WWE game imo.
Tecmo Super Bowl was better, IMO. More passing and running plays, full NFL rosters, stats tracking, season saves. It was revolutionary among sports games.
I don't know if I would put any of these in the top 10 but this video made me remember how much fun I had playing them: Mario Kart: Double Dash (the GOAT of Mario Kart games) MLB Slugfest 2004 ("Twenty-Oh-Four") ATV 2: Quad Power Racing 1080 Anything from the BACKYARD series. (Shout out Pablo Sanchez, the greatest athlete of all time)

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is a sick game but one of the games in the Skate series also deserves a mention due to the evolution of controls using (no surprise here) the analog stick.
I would add nascar chase for the cup 2005. Deepest career mode for a nascar game, you could start rivalries with other drivers, and the funnest driving mechanics in a racing game from that era. And the soundtrack is full of bangers.

I mean seriously, why was NHL 2005 such a huge downgrade from 2004?! No GM's office, no arena creator in Create-A-Team, and worst of all, no Create-A-Player! NHL 2005 makes me upset because all the other EA 2005 games were big improvements over 2004, while NHL 2005 was a downgrade! And I'm a hockey fan! The only things that NHL 2005 did right was the new inclusions. Authentic arenas, face-off strategies, better graphics, smoother gameplay, and the soundtrack was just as good as 2004. If not better! From Out Of Nowhere and Take Me Out are still some of my favorite songs of all time!

@@xmohawkx985 I know, but I don't see the lockout as an excuse why so many cool features from 2004 was removed in 2005, and didn't even return in 06 and the rest of the PS2 NHL games (aside from Create A Player). Because the game was very likely built throughout the 03-04 season, before the lockout was announced. NHL 13 was a great game that was better than NHL 12, and that game came out at a lockout season
Gran Turismo will always be my favorite just because of it's insane impact. I mean the winner of a tournament became the actual driver for Nissan's F1 team, it's partially responsible for the GTR finally coming to the states, and that goes even deeper since the developer of GT (Polyphony Digital) developed the software for the R35 GTR. If that doesn't impress you idk what would.
I've never really played a basketball game, it's more of a NA game so second place is a bit high. But I approve this list, can't say how many god damn hours I've spent on Tiger Woods 05, Tony Hawk 2 and Fifa 12! The 12 game really truly was the peak of the franchise! The only game I really missed was a need for speed game but the Gran Turismo 3 game was such a fantastic game I can't argue with you at all about it. I've got a funny story about the Tiger Woods 05 game. An old friend of mine who've never thouched a golfclub got introduced to the game at the youthcenter we used to visit. He played it until he became so good nobody wanted to play with him and then he started for real. Today he's a semi-professional going to tours all over europe.

NHL Hitz franchise. Preferably 03 or Pro. Made hockey video games so fun. Ncaa football 14 is my favorite football game I’ve ever played. I absolute loved the NCAA football series and I’d love to see NCAA basketball and hockey in the near future, which may happen again with the NCAA changing rules on player likeness
I think NBA Street Vol. 2 is the best basketball game ever made. Realism is always a motivating factor for video game creators, but I miss games like this, NFL Blitz, and MLB Slugfest where reality gets thrown out the window and all that’s left is chaotic sports goodness

Ssx tricky was a great game. Also Skate 3 should be in there. Tony Hawk pro skater introduced skating but Skate 3 took it to another level.

Tecmo Super Bowl was better, IMO. More passing and running plays, full NFL rosters, stats tracking, season saves. It was revolutionary among sports games.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is a sick game but one of the games in the Skate series also deserves a mention due to the evolution of controls using (no surprise here) the analog stick.

I would add nascar chase for the cup 2005. Deepest career mode for a nascar game, you could start rivalries with other drivers, and the funnest driving mechanics in a racing game from that era. And the soundtrack is full of bangers.

NHL 2005: Why is this sandwiched between NHL 2004 and 06?
I mean seriously, why was NHL 2005 such a huge downgrade from 2004?! No GM's office, no arena creator in Create-A-Team, and worst of all, no Create-A-Player! NHL 2005 makes me upset because all the other EA 2005 games were big improvements over 2004, while NHL 2005 was a downgrade! And I'm a hockey fan!
The only things that NHL 2005 did right was the new inclusions. Authentic arenas, face-off strategies, better graphics, smoother gameplay, and the soundtrack was just as good as 2004. If not better! From Out Of Nowhere and Take Me Out are still some of my favorite songs of all time!

@@xmohawkx985 I know, but I don't see the lockout as an excuse why so many cool features from 2004 was removed in 2005, and didn't even return in 06 and the rest of the PS2 NHL games (aside from Create A Player). Because the game was very likely built throughout the 03-04 season, before the lockout was announced. NHL 13 was a great game that was better than NHL 12, and that game came out at a lockout season

Absolutely, the PS3 & 360 games I think were the NHL series at its best and 15 & Legacy Edition were the ultimate refinements of that engine.
I liked nhl: legacy edition because in BAP, you could interact with the world
NHL 15 was so awesome, got me into the NHL series and Madden 16 just the same for me and they will always be on my top 10
Gran Turismo will always be my favorite just because of it's insane impact. I mean the winner of a tournament became the actual driver for Nissan's F1 team, it's partially responsible for the GTR finally coming to the states, and that goes even deeper since the developer of GT (Polyphony Digital) developed the software for the R35 GTR. If that doesn't impress you idk what would.

I've never really played a basketball game, it's more of a NA game so second place is a bit high.
But I approve this list, can't say how many god damn hours I've spent on Tiger Woods 05, Tony Hawk 2 and Fifa 12! The 12 game really truly was the peak of the franchise!
The only game I really missed was a need for speed game but the Gran Turismo 3 game was such a fantastic game I can't argue with you at all about it.
I've got a funny story about the Tiger Woods 05 game. An old friend of mine who've never thouched a golfclub got introduced to the game at the youthcenter we used to visit. He played it until he became so good nobody wanted to play with him and then he started for real. Today he's a semi-professional going to tours all over europe.

NHL Hitz franchise. Preferably 03 or Pro. Made hockey video games so fun. Ncaa football 14 is my favorite football game I’ve ever played. I absolute loved the NCAA football series and I’d love to see NCAA basketball and hockey in the near future, which may happen again with the NCAA changing rules on player likeness

I think NBA Street Vol. 2 is the best basketball game ever made. Realism is always a motivating factor for video game creators, but I miss games like this, NFL Blitz, and MLB Slugfest where reality gets thrown out the window and all that’s left is chaotic sports goodness
