Version 14 of Cubase is the best (major update\upgrade) in a long time. Worth every penny damn it. Oh and Weaver I still have a legal license ("I pay for my $hit") copy of Cubase 4, I have worked with Cubase since SX.
imho, the 6th one the customizable "modScripter" replaces about 84 bitwig modulators. How many distinct modulators in bitwig does different takes on an envelope? 7? And one separate one to sidechain audio into another? right.
@machineagevoodoo2106 If you say so. I haven't used the modScripter modulator, or Cubase, so I have no idea how it works. The problem with one modulator 'device' being a Swiss army knife tho, is that then you have to spend time configuring and menu diving in it to do the right thing, whereas if you have a lot of specific modulators, you can just drag and drop. But then you have to remember what everything does, which is a pain. Both design philosophies have merit.
As a Cubase 13 user (and someone who has been using Cubase since before they came up with VST), the modulators feature alone had me upgrade immediately.
I would suspect it was Nuendo not Cubase. Both are Steinberg, but, Nuendo is designed for scoring films and is a more feature filled version of Cubase as well as having a significant price increase.

Cubase is probably one of the most complete DAW‘s, although its weaknesses is simplicity. That’s why taking features from Ableton/Bitwig would make it pretty unstoppable.
a lot of plugins don't come with a modulation system, or only with a small one that is just good enough to make some cool basic things happen. i think it's a great idea, not just for cubase but for all DAW developers, to add modulation systems. and it's not bad that Cubase doesn't have the biggest modulation system ever yet. They will probably add more stuff in the next updates, especially a randomizer for mudpies and other happy accident things. But for now it's just cool that they started to go this way
Cubase 14 only has six modulators vs (20+?) in Bitwig. Also, Cubase 14 is now DawProject compatible which began with Bitwig and Studio One. From what i heard, Steinberg and Bitwig really got deep with the comparability when exporting one into the other. So i doubt seriously Bitwig has any issue with the new Modulation in Cubase 14. And i wouldn't doubt it if they partnered up to make that feature happen.
@@notsure1135oh yeah, as far as creativity and sound design for sure. But Cubase has a shit ton more features in the more traditional recording/mixing/mastering stuff than Bitwig, so I think they both compliment each other perfectly. I hear so many producers complain about protools, and then talk about other DAWs they’re trying and nearly none move to cubase. Cubase is the DAW ProTools should be. It does audio recording, editing and mixing better. It has mastering and loudness metering. It has all the midi capabilities of every other daw too. Don’t get me wrong I use ableton too, it’s great for songwriting, but cubase is the only DAW that actually has everything in the one package.
I like the size of the screen of the guy in the scoring bit, can you imagine having a screen so big that you have to walk from side to side to see the inspector and call a cab to check your browser, tell me, that's gotta be superimposed.
The media bay is lowkey one of the best features of Cubase. It is lightyears ahead of everything else in terms of browsing and, more importantly, filtering / searching all types of media / presets / samples etc etc. I switched from Cubase to Bitwig because of the modulator system and the media bay is the thing I miss most. Bitwig has a few limitations like multi out vst support and out routing issues, which Cubase does perfectly, and with the vastly superior audio editing capabilities combined with the new modulators, I might just switch back to Cubase. I dunno though because Cubase has super annoying audio dropouts when inserting vsts, is slightly less intuitive overall, and is generally much less stable. Bottom line is that Cubase is much more powerful I think, but has creativity killing quirks, where as Bitwig for me seems to increase my creativity. If only Bitwig had rewire support like FL does, I would have the best of both worlds. Decisions, decisions.
Cubase is amazing, to me its the best for film and tv composers for many levels. If you are a pop producer that only knows three chords, its still helpful to you lol
I think these days adding all these things is good. DAW might be pricey but for people either just moving into the digital realm or learning it makes way more tools accessible from stock than I ever had. I've spent so much on Plug-ins it's abhorrent.
I use FL, logic and pro tools. FL is optimized for hip-hop producers, but logic is the best in terms of stock plug-ins and advanced capabilities for engineering. For producers, I think most people would agree with you though
literally ableton did all that before every daw except every daw because they have m4l , and fl studio stole a lot of things from ableton including the new themes idea
People ask for things they see in other DAWs, that's why some functions end up being copied, don't make the mistake of thinking that Steinberg can't come up with something new.
My biggest gripe is that they still didn't fix the chord track display - e.g. when I drop in a-ha's "Hunting High and Low", there's lots of D flat and A flat, but then also C sharp minor and D sharp dim - why aren't you sticking with flat all the way through?
I started in Cubase 15 years ago as a teenager - got the EDU version. I had no idea what i'm doing, and let me tell you, the official tutorials didn't do a great job at helping there, lol. Later i switched to FL for the faster and easier workflow. Now i'm using Ableton for about a year and quite happy with it. I still use FL sometimes for stuff Ableton can't do, but over all i'm very happy with Ableton. One thing that annoys me quite a bit though is that Ableton seems to be, uh, not ideal for (movie) scoring. I'm not actually scoring movies or videos currently, but it's somethign i'm interested in since i do a lot of ambient / soundscape stuff too, alongside my normal Techno stuff.... So yea, lol.
Ableton doesn't really do the vocal recording process very well, much like Bitwig. Cubase is great for making an actual song with lyrics, and then mixing it and mastering it afterwards.
@@ottam Yea, FL has it's own version ov Melodyne for example, while (afaik) Ableton doesn't, sadly... But then again editing Audio Files in FL is complete trash (they unironically have "Edison" - a separate plugin window, i find that atrocious and just don'T work with that) while it's pretty much the main reason i switched to Ableton. Warping Audio straight in the box - no plugins and then replacinge the file - just warping THE FILE ITSELF, like it is there, in realtime, should be the very, bare minimum in any DAW, imo.
The Modulators and the Drumengines make the update worth to get. Also the improved CPU-Meter is great. One of the best updates after Cubase 5 bringing us the sidechain-feature ❤
Cubase pro trial so far has been fire. Never used cubase before so there’s a learning curve. But it’s not a horrible learning curve. The power is 100% there and I can see that as someone with less than 24 hours of exposure. If anybody is debating trying the trial do it.
The problem is that many of these videos on RUclips are from content creators that get paid by Steinberg. I totally get you...everything is EXTREME and POWERFUL and BEST EVER.
@@ladislaufazakas8980 I dont mean THIS channel, cause he's transparent and honest and expresses critics when appropriate. I mean those guys telling you "THIS IS THE BEST CUBASE EVER. YOU REALLY NEED THIS. WOOOOOW. THIS WILL MAKE YOUR MUSIC BETTER THAN EVER." Like this kinda bs.
Excel spreadsheet 😂 dorico is what cubase used to be - easy to use. Cubase 12,13 14 is so powerful now it’s very very complicated for new starters. Reaper is very powerful but also easy to use. One day i may switch back to cubase from ableton but after the initial confusion with ableton looping mode i am unlikely to change to cubase unless i need to use e cores for big projects in a linear recording format.
I got the free trial for 60 days and I will be upgrading from Cubase 13 for $99 in a month or so. I did a crossgrade from Ableton Live for Cubase 13 earlier this year. I use Ableton for school since that is one of the two choices they give you. If you are mostly interested in composing for film, television, and sync Cubase is an awesome choice.
It was even shown in this video. About 350€ regular, and a few months ago it was 40% off. And they are quite generous, for FL Studio for example, Fruity Edition does not qualify, but Producer Edition does. With FL bought on BF sale and crossgrade Cubase on sale can get it you way cheaper than Cubase alone at the regular price and you have FL as a nice addition.
3:25 I would imagine that the people involved in writing copy for any DAW except Ableton would avoid at all cost the use of the words "able to" together and in that order. However...
Cubase (I think 3 or 4) was my first real DAW. I cross-graded from Cakewalk Home Studio 😝. It is still my main DAW and I keep up-to-date. I like to use Bitwig for sound design and more casual stuff, except if I am working in Halion 7 (then often just stand-alone). Similar for Falcon; stand alone. I was into Live until I got Bitwig.
It's not the frequency of releases, but the pricing. $100 covers you up to only one previous version. If you're 2 versions behind, which, mind you, isn't some insane lag, it's double - $200. I mean come on. If the first tier upgrade price doesn't cover at least the last two versions, it really comes off as pretty predatory. Or, you know, maybe I'm just poor, I guess

I have Cubase 4 lol; stopped upgrading when I switched to Live
dude is going to get radiation burns from that tv.
its a post production effect-
The problem is that many of these videos on RUclips are from content creators that get paid by Steinberg. I totally get you...everything is EXTREME and POWERFUL and BEST EVER.
All daws have streamers, read between the lines.
They have crossgrade? Whattt?
@ Yes Sir. They do. Type Cubase cross grade into Google and you should be able to find it.
One day all DAWs will look like Live
Well they all came from Cubase over the past 34 years.
I hope not. Live looks Fugly IMO
@@LunarBuzz But Live always had his own look, which a lot of DAWs implement into their UI.
@@EPHRO-369 Such as?

Cubase= Excellent DAW!
Nah, this attitude to picking at everything just to be contrary, is not for me. I'm out.
Pretty accurate.
All the modulation mapping seems a bit easier and flexible in Ableton, but a welcome update!
i would say that the score thing, is the best part of it and seems to work imo
Lonely island intensifies
Better update than Maschine 3 for 39 bucks I get to upgrade from cubase 12 elements to 14
Cubase has more years in the Ableton cubase is a OG
😂😂😂 you should do stand up comedy 😂😂😂. Everything you said was accurate though. Good review though
3:25 I would imagine that the people involved in writing copy for any DAW except Ableton would avoid at all cost the use of the words "able to" together and in that order. However...
why did the slurs joke crack me up so much 😂
Cubase (I think 3 or 4) was my first real DAW. I cross-graded from Cakewalk Home Studio 😝. It is still my main DAW and I keep up-to-date. I like to use Bitwig for sound design and more casual stuff, except if I am working in Halion 7 (then often just stand-alone). Similar for Falcon; stand alone. I was into Live until I got Bitwig.
nice update. the mixconsole in lower zone has been there for a while though
It didn't include inserts before
@ you could change the layout to have it include them
It's not the frequency of releases, but the pricing. $100 covers you up to only one previous version. If you're 2 versions behind, which, mind you, isn't some insane lag, it's double - $200. I mean come on. If the first tier upgrade price doesn't cover at least the last two versions, it really comes off as pretty predatory. Or, you know, maybe I'm just poor, I guess
ngl, this looks amazing
3:00 "this person" with all due respect, that person is Dom Sigalas and he's got 160k subs and he has expert Cubase knowledge. You Zoomers and your lack of respect. sad. 🙂
i exposed him about a year for doing paid reviews LMAO
@@Weaverbeats He is employed at Steinberg, he is part of the marketing team. You talk nonsense, you are full of hatred in the soul.
That Drum plugin looks closer to FPC
how is a cube supposed to be BASeD?
Previewed like a boss since Reaper 5 )
Cubase used to be by far the best for audio editing. Dunno if it still is, don’t see why they’d have changed it… but moving to logic and having to deal with how audio works on that was, and still is, a nightmare.
Audio editing is still really good. Amazing even.
Logic is so incredibly easy to use though😂 Don’t mess with editing in protools in that case… it throws me off for sure.
