little trick guys, you dont HAVE to pull the oil pan to pull the cam, just takes a little finesse with the tensioner and a screw driver
What is the trick?
@@bobbieprice1351 small screwdriver to push back the tensioner.very doable
Except for half the time the tensioner is broken and needs replacement
For those that may do this, book time is 28 hours with 4wd. If you have 2wd, faster to do with engine in, but not much. Definitely pull engine on 4wd.
pulling the engine is a waste of time lol
Done many Cams on these trucks/Suvs and even c7 without pulling the oil pan. Just tricks of the trade.. 😊
@@rizaptor7005how ido it???
I have Z71. Never removed engine. Super simple and easy. Why remove something you don’t need to.
@@boost1728 nope. All done from the front
Just ordered some parts from y’all for a similar set-up on my ‘14 with l86 last week. After seeing y’all struggle, I lowered my expectations of how long it will take me to do in my driveway. Thanks for sharing
actually a pretty easy job. its just nuts and bolts. ive put cams and pull engines out of 90s- current year chevy trucks. these l83/l86 are by far give me the least amount of trouble

If your truck don’t give you problems like theirs did, you can get it done in a weekend. Took me 2 days to do a stage 2 in my 17 1500
@@dumbolove303 it’ll take me a month, minimum. Lol. About an hour at a time in between interruptions, on sundays cuz that’s the only time I have to work on it.
I know I'm late to the party, however, when removing harmonic balancer bolt, a good impact socket is a necessity.
How much does this job cost to get this job done?
Not a great advertisement for texas speeds finest.......
I'm doing the same exact job right now ..🎉🎉 by myself .. it's been a blessing and a curse .. 🤬 gotta put heat on that balancer bolt tho
Video will be up soon .. I ain't pulling motor
@16:39 “I hope this cam doesn’t kill the converter”
Lol
It’s going to, these truck are notorious for converter failures destroying the whole transmission
@@adriantrejo6696 there is a joke on sloppy mechanics. I guy tried to claim a Texas speed cam took out his stock torque converter which was never installed in the vehicle
The converters fail because of transmission temperatures. Get an upgraded thermal bypass valve and as long as it wasn’t hurt before it should be fine. I did that but also put a 6l90 converter in mine
Your inside. The first thing that should have come off is the hood. More room and more light. Easier on yalls back too.
Duralast breaker bar for the win
I would love to see this install on the new gen GM trucks
YOU DONT HAVE TO DROP OIL PAN!!! lol I’ve done this multiple times without dropping the pan
What oil pump did you run with this setup?
Is the OEM cam “bad” from the factory or is that replaced at the same because the engine is opened already, the added power, or preventative maintenance or what? Thanks
On these years Chevs PULL the engine and replace that garbage factory torque converter if you gonna do this delete. Pull it. Toss the factory torque converter. Install something like a Florida Torque Converter Co TC.. I've used them in a previous swap and they seem rock solid. 😎👍
Do these low lift retain VVT like the BTR V2 cams?
Well it has ported heads on it too so that number isn’t just the cam
Milwaukee 1/2 inch would have gotten that lower balancer bolt off 🤷🏾♂️
not without locking the flywheel it wont.
That chain is crazy 👀🤦🏿♂️😂😂😂😂🤦🏿♂️
Snap on mg735 will break that loose in one second lol 😂
7:21 if you actually had a impact rated socket on there it might have took it off. The weight of the socket plays a role..
I'd love to send my truck to you guys to do this
2016 gmc sierra with the 5.3... 4wd... how much would this cost me???
I did this to my '10 in the driveway. Have to admit this wasn't as smooth going as they expected (cracked head not their fault) but all that work for 40 hp? Id like to see the dyno charts before and after to see where it gained tq and hp throughout the rev range.
The engines are different in this truck & the engine that’s in your 10’. The procedure is entirely different for replacing the cam in the Gen V’s
Felt that Polly
I have a '18 Tahoe and I had my buddy install some software that eliminated the DOD. I will eventually do the same thing you guy's are doing but this software install is a great temporary fix.
Had my AFM disabled when I had my truck tuned. Lifter 7 still shit out!
It’s not actually a fix. The AFM lifter could still fail at any time.
We pull the grill and radiator at our job and radiator core support.
You guys have a lift and pulled the engine? Rack n diff come out in 35 mins.
Hell of a way to start 😂
Where you guys at ?
I wanna do this but stage 2 or 3 so bad but can't afford it :(
I'm doing it this week. Stage two and delet kit. More because I have to do it. DOD took out my lifters and I bet my cam is gonna be compromised too so I might as well huh.
Is there a no tune cam for a 2015 4x4 5.3 silverado. RV cams for little more HP and Torque years ago. Any suggestions?
There is no way around tuning a vehicle when doing a cam swap. At least if swapping to something that will actually show a change in performance. That aside, your '15 truck has DOD, which needs to be eliminated and turned off in the tune in order to do a cam swap.
@TexasSpeedPerformance yes sir and the plan was to eliminate it already.. So what would be a good cam that wont harm I guess a 2015 5.3 with 138k and I do understand it has to be tuned also. Thank you sir!
How common is it for a head to crack?
I would reconsider putting out these videos. Not looking to professional alot of extra work . Yikes.....
Yall got the wrong GM head gaskets for the L86 on your site, i had to pay reverse shipping Twice.. You sent me head gaskets for the 6.6L L8T, someone linked the part numbers wrong in your system.
L83 or L86
How many miles on this truck?
Rear main seal leak my azz zero evidence of that😮. Good video though.
5.3 or 6.2?
I'd guess 5.3. The 6.2 would have been more around 350hp
I hadn't watched the entire video before my previous reply. They mentioned L83 which is the 5.3L
Didnt do easy hood flip up.Bro forgot its an LT
I regret not getting the TSP heads when I did my cam on my 2016 Silverado.
Do they add a lot of power? I know the heads flow very well on these stock so i was just going to swap my 5.3 intake for the 6.2/l86 one
13:35 no rear main oil leak? That looks dry as a bone...
I agree this whole episode scared me off these dudes and I guarantee they cracked that head taking out a manifold bolt based on how inept they were trying to take out the balancer bolt.
Kinda wondering how that setup would work on 16 Tahoe lt
same thing
You've got the afm on a Tahoe? Is it a 6.2?
Would taking out the core support not be faster than pulling the motor?
7:52 Damnnn
put the parts list in the comments
Should of used comp cams oe replacement lifters. All gm lifters will fail eventually.
👍👍
How did the tune turn out? I did DOD and VVT delete and had it tuned. Still runs like crap. And has shutting misfire at idle. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Different tuner next time
I seem to have the same issue. Have you found a solution?
Sounds like a broken spark plug. I've seen it happen with plugs that are not for that truck (champion, Bosch ect). Clean out your mass air flow sensor, change your wires and do ACDelco o.e.m. plugs. Also replace the pvc valve
Lmfao 😂😂😂😅
Just take the body off the frame
Stage 2 is more fun lol
Can you do another video actually showing and walking viewers through the process? Nobody wants to watch mullet boy talk the whole time. Camera guy gets a 2/10
You guys are to funny! I can do a cam swap in 5hrs. First off why would you take the cylinder heads off if you're just doing a cam swap? All you do is pull the pushrods out stick a pen magnets in each lifter hole holding the lifters up, then slide the old cam out and new one in. Next time you wanna take a crank pulley off just put a breaker bar on it and bump the starter. Watching you guys is like watching a bunch of monkeys humping door knob! It took you guys a week to do a cam swap. 😂😂😂😂 I can't believe you posted this!!!😆😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣🤣🥴🥴🥴🥴🤤🤤🤤
You have to pull the heads to swap lifters ole boy
@94fastford I didn't watch the whole video, so I didn't know it had DOD, but honestly a week to do a cam and heads, don't you think that's a little excessive with four guys?
The title of the video is literally DOD delete…. Why would you ever half ass not swapping lifters on a Chevy any ways even if you weren’t deleting DOD. That’s the main failure point on most of these motors
@user-vd2fj4zq9v you should delete the comment
Might wanna do your research before thinking you know what you’re talking about. To do a DOD delete on a Gen 5 the heads haft to come off to change the lifters. However the oil pan doesn’t. This isn’t an old LS3 buddy. They were all over the place tho needing 5 ppl to do a 1 man job still taking triple the time. It’s pulling the motor for me. Total waste of time just to do it on a stand. Plenty of room standing in front the engine once the rad is out lol.
Why does Specs say 355 but it makes 279 ?
270hp? Holy parasitic loss there Batman. The stash is reaching redline there brother the mullet is on thing but ya gotta trim that hedge
