Thank ya! I’m glad you enjoyed it :). I have some newer mic videos on my channel since this one was filmed, so hopefully you would find those interesting as well but the Purple Panda even today still seemingly always comes out on top for its price and convenience!
Thank you this was really helpful! I'm a travel vlogger and lately I've been using my iphone headphone to record audio, which sucks! haha This looks like a way better and affordable option!
I died when ‘future Carson’ actually replied lol In addition, THANKS for this review! Contrary to popular belief, this mic actually sounds really good for its price and I’m totally buying it!
Just got my microphone today. Gifting to my gf based on your recommendation. Thank you sir. The prices on Amazon fluctuated in a span of 2 weeks from $100 back to $25.99. Really looking forward to seeing how well it performs!
I was reading the riviews on Amazon and was close to ordering this microphone. After watching your video, I ordered it. Thanks for taking the time to create this review!
Thanks for posting this video. I had a rode VideoMicro for starting my channel and I was very unhappy with it for the distance I had to stand from my camera. I purchased this mic based on your review and I am super happy with it so far. My first video with it comes out on Tuesday!
@@CasoRec can you explain that pls... Im starting a RUclips channel and I’m using my cellphone.. I would want to know which mic to use when doing an interview
I use an old android phone that I repurposed as a lav recorder. You can sync the audio in post. It gives me more freedom to move around. The best app to use on android is ASR. You can record at a larger bit-rate and heaps of formats WAV, FLAC, MP3 etc. It will give you a massive improvement to your video audio. I thought about a wireless Rode receiver but honestly my current method works exceptionally well. Thanks for the review, the PP sounds good, better than the Rode IMO.
Ayee thanks, man! I got them from warbyparker.com if you were interested in them yourself but yeah I love them I still have them and they've held up to pretty much everything! Warby has never sponsored anything of mine but if they were to ever contact me I would totally be down because their glasses have just always satisfied me and the customer service is great as well👌🏼.
Now is $33. Ordered today, thanks for the review. Question: Do you typically record into both microphones and then pick which audio you like more in editing? Or even mix audios?
The lav mic sounds better, thanks for the side by side comparison. I went over at Amazon and got the SLINT lavalier mic though, at $21.97 and has very good reviews too. Pretty good price in the yr 2020.
Well, it's a little dead cat rather than a wind sock. A wind sock is one of those things you'd see attached to a pole (like at an airfield) that looks like a sock and tells you the wind's direction.
Super helpful a, b, c comparison. Thinking of doing the same thing - record to the phone and sync in post. With all the connectors and cables you get, which I want anyway, it's like getting a free mic thrown in. I have a lav mic but lack the trrs connector and this kit makes better sense. Great job and helpful review!
Hi Carson. I love this video. You seem to have a great personality, and it shows in your video. Just curious how you are syncing your audio, and would you recommend to get a wireless tranceiver for a lavelier mic?
Hey Carson, This was so great to see an outdoor mic like this. I am definitely interested in purchases it. I could use your advice - a friend and I, who are completely amateurs when it comes to tech like this so learning as we go, are interested in recording ourselves having a conversation (interview) while walking around outside. We want a mic that records us together so two lavs but one connector(?) and a mic to interview other people we meet while walking. What do you recommend we do in order to be able to have three mics essentially, one for each of us to record each other talking together, another mic for whenever someone else is buy or recording outdoor sounds, and an app or device to record it and upload it to edit and cut? let me know if you have any question! thank you so much for taking time to help a newbie out :)
Holy crap! Major price reduction right there:). Thanks so much for letting me know as I may actually go and buy a second one of these just in case I ever need a dual mic setup haha
From the thumbnail I thought it was a pipe. Hey! now THAT's a great idea! : combination mic and pipe. You could get nailed while gabbing up your followers on youtube! Am I the only ones with great ideas in this thread? lol
Thanks for the video. Which microphone were you using during the first part, say 1:08 when you were unboxing/unpouching the microphone package? It sounded really clear and crisp.
The Rode sounds "thin" ... lacking in low frequencies. The discount mic sounds muffled ... lacking in high frequencies. I honestly don't like either one. BTW, do your friends call you "wind sock"? Aside from the fact that it's the wrong term, I lost count of how many times you said it. Anyhow, thanks for the demo. It gives a good idea how those two mics sound.
I have a peculiar question but if i and i want to record music with this microphone (voice & ukulele) will it only pick my voice, and not the ukulele ?
you should get it to try it out, i’m sure it depends on where you place the mic, but if you wanted to, you can just record your voice and the ukulele separately. or you could record the ukulele and wear like earbuds then record your voice while hearing the ukulele, hope that made sense :>
great review, thank you! I like that it cancelled out all the background noise, which is what I’m looking for! however there are so many reviews on amazon saying it’s defected upon arrival ... do you have any other suggestions for a similar microphone that won’t record all the noise? I looked at similarly priced Lavalier mic reviews & they’re all too sensitive ...
Hey Carson. Hopefully you can answer this question. I'm a teacher and am wanting to amplify my speaking voice while teaching in person since I'll be wearing a mask which will muffle my voice. Can/should I get a lavalier mic and would I be able to get my voice to play live through computer speakers using a windows laptop? I would also like to be able to walk around my classroom, so a wireless option would be best. Any tips you can share?
Thank you so much! Also thank you for letting me know; I just updated the links I thought they were affiliate links but I guess I had never switched them xD.
I noticed for android users, you have to download the Wavepad Audio Editor app to get the best quality. Otherwise, recording straight from your camera recording is not going to pick up well.
Great job on the review Carson. How well does it sound while holding the mic itself about an arms length away? I'm wanting to use it for vlogging while hiking, but don't like wearing them on my collar like you don't. I want a lav mic because of the price and being lightweight. My plan is to keep the cord wrapped tight and just let the mic hang or ride somehow on the camera...just wondering how well it would still pick up my voice while holding out in the "vloggers" pose? Thanks again for the review
Lav mics really are more meant to be right by you and if you use it at a further length away, you really would be introducing more sounds than you want...I’ve tried using it before as not attached to my shirt but the results aren’t at all good so if you’re planning on just using a lav mic like in your situation, I would suggest purchasing a Rode VideoMicro which is probably one of the best budget shotgun mics out there. It’s perfect for mounting on a camera and then being used at further distances! I used it in this video at some points and a lot of my other videos with great results. 10/10 would recommend that over a lav mic setup for vlogging! Hope this helps!
A quick question please. I plan to use this with a cheap smart phone. What is the best sound recording software to use, or is it just the built in sound recorder?

Hi Carson. I love this video. You seem to have a great personality, and it shows in your video. Just curious how you are syncing your audio, and would you recommend to get a wireless tranceiver for a lavelier mic?
You just need to clap 3 times when you start to record so you can see the 3 peaks in both audio lines, the camera and the lavalier mic.
While unboxing: goes straight for the extension cable, dropping the actual microphone 0:50
Actual microphone: hello darkness my old friend....

Are you still using the mic and is it holding up ok?
The Purple Panda sounds muffled in comparison to the Rode. I'd choose the Rode here.
really? the purple sounds clear - but the rode is picking up a lot more than his voice (granted it still sounds great)
From 4:14 to 4.20
