      I was in Grade school during the 90s. The dare program was just getting started Teaching kids how to say no was alright but kids today are taught way tooooo much. For example my fifth grader could identify 20 different narcotics by name and highschooler told me they are saving people from dying bc accidentally overdoing bc they know how to know if someone is in need of narcan etc. the days of red ribbon week posters telling you how cool it is to stay in school. Now it’s just posters of told how to tell if your drug of choice is real or fake 😢

    You don't get instantly addicted like the story portrays.

    • @dextermorgan1
      @dextermorgan1 28 дней назад +6

      Physically, no. Mentally, that's a different story. I was "addicted" to Oxycontin the first time I did it. Not physically(yet) but I started doing it regularly after doing it just once. I had lots of friends that could say the same thing. It happens. Many if those old friends are dead or in prison. I've been off the junk for 14 years.

    • @riphopfer5816

      True. You have to use it habitually for a little while before you get withdrawal symptoms.

    • @jackdurden466
      @jackdurden466 28 дней назад +4

      There are a lot of theories as to how long you’ve got to use, or what amount of the drug and the length of time you have to use it to create withdrawals. But in the end it really boils down to your DNA and whether or not you have the genes for an addiction. I was “given” the genes, while my biological brother wasn’t. My mother had a family full of addicts, and it went straight down the line. Whilst my father didn’t have any other siblings or parents or grandparents who were addicts. That’s what makes the biggest impact in my opinion and from all the time I’ve put research into it. I’ve been clean for nearly 13 years, just a bit longer than I used. Methadone has saved my life. And even though some people will say it’s trading one drug for another, it’s so not that at all. I don’t feel anything safe for the lack of the “hole” that needs and screams to be filled. Some fill it with drugs, sex, Alcohol, gambling, etc. But it’s all the same in the end.

    • @jackdurden466
      @jackdurden466 28 дней назад +1

      And in all that I forgot to say that I do agree that it takes more than one time to become a full blown addict. I’d used Percocet and The narcotic syrup cough medicine long before I became addicted to anything.

    Whenever I hear stories of addiction I can’t help, but remember, I dated a woman who worked at a pain management clinic and she would watch people start on a low-dose of whatever and slowly throughout the years just they have to keep increasing it to tolerances and eventually they’re on such heavy opioids that they run the risk of respiratory failure because their brain just ceases to send the signal to their lungs to breathe
    Even worse, there were several people that could’ve been fixed with a simple 20 minute procedure, but the insurance companies would rather keep them medicated for the rest of their lives. Part of the problem we have especially in America for whatever reason we allow insurance company bureaucrats to dictate what doctors are in are not allowed to do more people levy lawsuits against Company bureaucrats for practicing medicine without a license. I truly believe things would change.

    The beginning of the story truly is such a great metaphor and description of what it’s like the first time you use opiates. Some people are lucky and don’t like it, but others like myself get a feeling of complete peace and utter content. I started so early at the age of 15, and the entire time through high school was fun and amazing. After that however, things started to get dark. I started having run ins with the law, getting court ordered to rehabs 4 times, and jail 3 times. Didn’t matter to me. I kept on going, and only stopped briefly when they put me on drug court. Only because one failed drug test and back to jail you go. Not only that, but you repeat the process of rehab and possibly a halfway house as well. Those two combined add another 6 months to however long you were in jail for. Even mild overdosed/close calls weren’t enough for me to stop. However, whenever I was 22, on June 15th 2020, I quite literally died in the bathroom. What really finally got me to stop was how lucky I was to be alive. I was living with my wife at the time, and I was hiding it from her. I had some time off from work while she herself had work. So I hit up my connect, and had a 3 day weekend of taking the “Percocet” in a house by myself minus two dogs and two cats. Those times I just had the high described at the beginning, because I stopped taking my suboxone in preparation for this weekend. I literally spent a whole week making myself physically sick from stopping my medication that blocks the effects of opiates just for a weekend of bliss. The night I had to be brought back, it was around midnight, and my wife was sound asleep. So I crushed up the last half of a pill I had and up the nose it went. I justified because at least I wasn’t shooting heroin anymore. Little did I know that the last half of pill out of the 8 I bought had far too much fentanyl in it. I knew something was up, because the last half was hard as a rock, and when I crushed it up it turned into way more powder than it should’ve been. However, I wasn’t gonna just throw away the last bit of my drugs. Not when I had the last of us queued up on the PlayStation. So I did it right before I got in the shower since I could hide my abuse my locking the bathroom door and using a shower as an excuse. I knew in the back of my head that as soon as it dripped down my throat that I did too much, but I pushed it out of my head and finished showering. As soon as I bent down and started turned the shower off, everything went black. I’m talking instant darkness. Not just flipping a light switch, but a sudden unexpected power outage. I woke up to my apartment filled to the brim with EMTs and cops. I later found out that my wife had to be guided to do CPR over the phone, and it took 4 shots of Narcan, which was literally all of them to bring me back. That’s not even the craziest part. Remember when I said my wife was sound asleep? She only woke up because the rat terrier we had somehow knew something was wrong and started barking and scratching at the bathroom door, and woke her up. After hearing this, I never touched the shit again and went to rehab the next day. Almost 4 years since I touched anything now.

    I’d heard this one a long time ago and fortunately it was long enough to make it nearly new as I could hardly remember much of it. So my thanks to the Dr, for all the work that he puts into these stories and solely for our entertainment. Quite the selfless man! And I give praise to the author Johnny Blaze who apparently likes to write when he’s not the Ghost Rider. Interesting choice of a side job for a hunter of the devils bounty. 🤔 But hey, to each his own! And since he seems to have a bit of skill in this, I encourage him to keep it up! Another enjoyable installment in the Doctors dungeon. Keep ‘em coming!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

    There’s absolutely NO way that any junkie or addict would do this. Far too many reasons why, the act of giving away the drugs, the ability of chasing down the victims at such speed, and to acquire “pure” heroin to use in the actual needles? This would only be the act of a dealer, and it should be obvious. Who else would want to get people addicted? And they’d definitely have access to the dope, and would have enough money to spare for giving away some in order to get more regular buyers.
