This is the most exquisite creation by man that I have ever seen. The complexity combined with the impression of weightlessness takes my breath away. I completely understand why the fairy was left “featureless.” To apply a standard of beauty would limit it to a small segment of its viewers. The eyes would be too close, too far apart, the wrong colour; the hair the wrong colour, style, texture. By avoiding these constructs, the viewer can imagine their own concept of beauty. This piece is truly beyond the pale.
For those wondering, it took Van Cleef & Arpels' 7 years to build _Automate Fée Ondine_ and it's not for sale. I have no doubt it's insured for double-digit millions.
This is such a magnificent work! the movement of the leaf with the flowers and butterflies, the fairy's delicate design and it's composition, everything is stunning. And the fact that it took 8 years to make this piece of art makes it absolutely priceless. If only I could have one of these I would never stop looking at it, it's so beautiful...it's just a wonderful dream
A jewel like this, the workmanship, the artistry, is not from this era. I am ,enchanted. To the artists, the craftsmen i applaud. I thought this was all lost. KUDOS to all who created art.
It's stunning, I just wish the butterfly would do a more rapid shaking of the wings as they do when emerging from a chrysalis, and I find It hard to relate to the 'Fee' without eyes. So she's depressed.. the flower opens to reveal the butterfly, her spirits are raised for a brief moment, but she looks down again. Then she looks up more, with more attention on the butterfly as it raises up, and it goes down again and is enclosed by the flower. Then she glances at the other flower, looking for something else interesting, nothing. She glances back at the closed flower where the butterfly once was, and looks back down again, depressed. Profoundly beautiful on many levels, genius.
