How to make a Super simple Dual Axis Solar Tracker without Any Chip DIY (4K)

  • In this video I demonstrate a simplest an cheapest autonomous 2 axis solar tracking system that can be used with solar panels or parabolic mirrors to improve their performance in producing renewable energy. For this system I used two geared electric motors 6V, 2.5 RPM, and four 5 V, 150 mA solar panels connected in a configuration that allows the motors to constantly move the panels and pointing them directly into the sun or light source.

Maybe you could place the same thing on top of an bigger panel. The small pilot-panel would power relays instead of motors. The relays could then control a bigger motor to turn the main panel. only a small suggestion for the next project ... 😉

    I dont get why its so hard to make a tracker, surely we know the exact position of the sun at any time, we can even know the exact position of the sun 100 years from now at 1:30pm in the middle of scotland, so why cant we just get trackers to point at where it knows the sun will be at that particular time?

    The problem with this design is there is no reset or park position. As the sun sets, the panels will be cranked all the way in one position and they stay there. Next morning, the sun comes up behind the panels, which now can't produce power. Each day you will have to manually move the panels to catch the morning sun. Great if your using a bulb, not so great if using the sun.

    • @MukGyver
      @MukGyver  11 месяцев назад +2

      The tracker was designed for portable charging purposes (need to attach the bigger power solar panel to it only). There is no problem attaching one more smaller solar panel for the return position if the system will be stationary.

    although it is a nice experiment is completely unuseful because:
    - the hot glue will melt under hot sun (i tell you by experience)
    - you cannot use the energy generates by the solar panels other than for tracking.

      Have you heard of proof of concept? this is it - the PoC, to show 'real' functionality only, it's not constructed for all day work and it's only a Tracker version. You can attach to it other bigger solar panels and use them for generating 100% of available sun power.

    Problem here is clouds or reflections that alter light to panels differently.
    No need for any of this.
    East - west
    The earth revolves at a set speed 360 degrees per day or 15 degrees per hour. It is constant. Just gear to that.
    North south
    The north south depends on location but only varies a small amount per day. Once calculated for a location, it doesn't change. Once again it could easily be done mechanicallly.

      Thank you for your suggestions, I think they would more fit for the stacionar system. Imagine, if this tracker will be adopted as a portable phone charger (including a powerful PV panel), with your options you will always need a compass and to set up the position of the tracker in different locations. It would be very impractical for a portable device..
