Gloves: Sparco "Arrow" kart-gloves (which i reinforced with leather on the "shifting-fingers") - i got 2 pairs of them - but pair #1 is still in use since about 1500 hours. And i think will be in use for the coming 1500 hours. Shoes: OMP KS-3 kart shoes
A pair of mounting biking gloves (I think Troy Lee?) and a pair of moccasins that I got for like 5 bucks after coupons. Though the Sim Hound stuff has been on my radar.
I got mechanic's gloves for $4 and water shoes for $10. Both very comfortable and work great for sim racing. But, I would keep my sim gear for racing only, I would not walk around with water shoes and gloves doing outdoor work and then use it on expensive wheels and pedals.
Good shout! I used some biking gloves for probably 2 years before I got some dedicated sim racing gloves... I had to as before I used them for racing I'd used them for biking for a good 5/6 years already, so when racing got introduced they wore out a little faster and the tips of the fingers started sticking through holes xD
as a sim technician i have to visit client to solve issue and for me using vans slip on shoes works the best all round meaning i can wear a normal shoe for sim racing in general. glove bmx or DH MTB slim gloves feels one with your hand so it like holding your wheel without gloves why i love extreme biking gloves fit to comfort
I was using a pair of fingerless spandex compression gloves. But, while I was away for work, I found 2 pairs of mountain bike gloves on sale at a sporting store. A pair of fingerless Decathlon with padded palms and a pair of full finger RockRiders with a reinforced leather palm and a thin, breathable back. I have been using the RockRiders for over a year and a half. They also have the phone touch finger tip.
Recently picked up some water shoes from Decathlon for 7 euros and they are great, for gloves i got sparco hypergrip+ very comfortable, breathable and well fitting gloves with padding on the palm, a bit pricey but highly recommended.
Mechanix Specialty Gloves with extra grip (finger tips cut off). Head tennis racket over wrap tape on my steering wheels. Dragon Grip grip stickers on my shifter paddles. Exercise socks with grip. I've been thinking about trying the Sim Hounds shoes. I've tried karting gloves in the past, but they keep heat in and they are generally more expensive and haven't lasted as long as my Mechanix gloves.
I used my work gloves for sim racing for a while, they did work well but did not breath well so my hands got very sweaty which I did not enjoy. I got dedicated sparco hypergrip sim racing gloves for fairly reasonable price on amazon, took some research to determine my correct size, they fit great and work well, I love that they work with my laptop touchpad and phone screen. After one year they are showing some wear but no problems yet, I can tell they are doing the job to protect the materials on my wheel. For shoes I just wear my house slippers, no problems there
I use my fingerless MTB gloves mostly and sometimes my thin full fingered ones ones as well. And a pair of Ferrari Puma Drift Cat shoes on my VRS Pro pedals.
Awesome video, love getting recommendations on this type of gear because there are so many differing opinions. That said, I definitely laughed at 14:09 when you said "fingers" instead of "toes" while talking about the water shoes, haha.
Not my first time complimenting you, but must say i really appreciate this channel. Especially this vids about equipment. I personally use the sparco Hypergloves+ and basketball socks, i liked the first sparco i had so i wanted to remain in a familiar brand because they fit amazingly. But im curious to try the simhound in the future
I have some cozy house slippers that have rubber soles for my racing shoes, for gloves I bought some Alpine Stars karting gloves from Ebay. They a have a very nice rubber pattern on the palms which grips my wheels really nicely, making me grip the wheel far less, definitely wont buy any other gloves unless they have rubber grips.
Recently bought the Sim Hound shoes. I previously used slippers with a reasonably substantial sole. The Sim Hound shoes are very nice indeed. They are a good fit & very comfortable, and not over priced. I’m very pleased with my purchase. Would definitely recommend. I have the Alcantara Club Sport Formula 2.5x rim, so I use Sparco Meca gloves which do the job well.
I am happy you mentioned water shoes. I have been using 10USD water shoes for sim-racing for a while now best bang for the buck. As far as gloves go i suggest gorilla grip gloves. They work for sim-racing and any outside work you have to do.
I used gloves used for hurling (a sport here in Ireland) which had a grippy palm and fingers and a mesh back which helps keep my hands cool. They only cost €5 in aldi
Just recend I switch over to MTB Gloves with no cussion they feel great and as a bonus most of them you are still able to Controll touch displays. I had to move over to shoes since I use the clubsports v2. I mange to clamp my socks between the base and the pedals
i made the mistake in thinking the GSI aerogloves would be superb, 5 months in and the stitching is allready coming loose on 3 or 4 spots, oh and there's 2 holes in the palms near the thumb, i have fairly strong hands as a mechanic so i run quite heavy FFB, seems like these gloves were made to work with starter logitech's or something. i think my next pair will be a karting glove, probably sparco or some other well known brand and preferably the higher tier in build quality. i spent over 100 dollars on the GSI's and they state on their website that they're sold without warranty... now i know why.
Well, I'm actually waiting for the Simhound shoes before watching your video!!! before I also wore beach shoes similar to yours, thanks to your video a long time ago, but they were ruined after 2/3 years, and for me they're fantastic! great idea! I've even tried to buy ones from puma esports shoes but they are never in stock and are around 100€! So I can't wait for the Simhound arrive, i use my motocross light gloves like Virage ones!
full suede palm is a must have for me for racing gloves I got FOX mountain biking gloves with a full suede palm and they are perfect for even grip. The extra grip surface on other gloves may wear Alcantara out
Hi there, after trying a lot gloves and shoes I have settle with the new model of F33L gloves, they have better finishing and fit than the Jimmy's version and I like the grip of the palm rubber, no problem for me. I've tried other ones for fitness and biking and the cushioning on the palm was even painful when gripping the wheel firmly. I've also tried freem (confortable but not grippy enough for me), minus 273 (very good but also very hot ones), different models of sparco ones, etc... A lot of money spent, to end up with F33L, the new model, better than the old one. For shoes, after trying from socks, socks with insole, racing shoes... I finally have settle with water shoes, the same exact model as Simhound ones, but without the elastic, they are sold in Amazon quite a bit cheaper, but maybe the elastic is worth it. I've spent a lot of money trying different things and I end up with almost the same conclusions @randomcallsign. Just my two cents.
I would argue that, even ignoring price, water shoes are (subectively) a better option than karting shoes. I tried the Sparco K-Pole and the sole is a bit too thick for me. I lost some sensation from the brake. Water shoes normally have the perfect sole thickness - again, for me.
I understand the need for shoes, because certain shoes can be too thick or unwieldy or even rough for the pedal set you might use, but honestly, gloves are hit or miss. You can get the same performance without them, and it doesn’t damage your wheel unless you are literally digging your nails into everything
gloves help with chaffing after prolonged times of use, each leads to blisters, cuts etc. Also they help protect alcantara wheels. with gloves, the alcantara lasts longer before being washed.
I don’t like short gloves. I prefer the longer version just for the looks. After some 3 years of trying different ones I’m still hooked to the Alpinestars Tech-1 Race V2. Snug, touch control, good grip, light, affordable. I also own a pair signed by yourself and the Weasel. 😍 they sit in my pitbox shelf. I do prefer shoes as well. As you said, when putting some weight on the brake pedal, you want that sole support. I’m going with worn out adidas sneakers that have a super thin sole by now. Gives me some good feel towards the pedal face but also stability. Thanks for your video. 🫡 …and have a good week.
I used Mechanix Covert 0.5 glove. High dexterity. These are my favorite! I might get Sparco mechanic gloves. I did get a pair of Sim Hound gloves. The SH suck. The print on the palms actually tears up the grips on my McLaren rim. I also got SH shoes. The shoes are overpriced water shoes. But, they are very good. The heel is nicer than water shoes
I wear night shoes aka slippers that are pretty much identical to water shoes with thin soles so I can feel good with them still. I also use very thin gloves.
No socks for me. I was doing heel toe and hit my heel on the pedal plate instead of the gas and it hurt like a MF so I grabbed an old pair of thin sole shoes that were really worn down (on cloud Xs) and I use those, give an old pair a new use.
I use Sparco Gloves and Karting shoes and like them very much. That saud, I'm in my first year of Sim Racing and have'nt shopped arouns very much but, I'm always open to other options. Side note, I also have many RUSH T Shirts which are also excellent sim gear.👍
I used to use 2 handed golf gloves (basically just sports gloves in general, similar to what ive seen some footballers use) but then i realised I'm using a g29 it doesn't matter anyway. I'm more comfortable without them.
My wheel is leather, so no gloves. I wear socks or use my regular indoor shoes. Same one I use on the treadmill. Unless it's winter and super cold outside, I never use glove on my real car. Don't see why I would need special gloves and shoes for sim racing.
I use Sparco meca 3 mechanic gloves, they are priced around 30€, quite like them, but I did notice they do wear a bit fast. Probably my next pair will be something else
Think ill just keep "destroying" my simracing equipment:) this is probably more for those that sim race like 8 hours a day but for average user like me no gloves etc is fine my equipment after like 4 years looks just fine.
I don't use gloves. Whoops there goes the alcantara on my Esport F1 wheel. I also go bare feet on the pedals. I got ballet shoes (canvas shoes) to use if I really have to. I do dance classes on Zoom so thats the main reason I got the shoes.
Alcantara or suede like materials will be washed out about once a year from fats and oils in your hands. If you want to protect that then go for some gloves. Shoes definitely make using something like 100-200kg of brake force manageable, but I use some slippers I got for free from a hotel.
I just use the gloves I use for Karting and for shoes I don't even wear any when using my Sim rig just socks, the main reason I prefer leather based Sim wheels over Alcantara so I don't always have to wear the gloves
I never use my gloves, maybe I should. The thing is though, the gloves are more expensive than my steering wheel. I used to race karts and still have my sparco shoes and gloves…
What am I using? ... Nothing :D But my wheel and pedals are budget options for now. I might need to refer to this video's recommendations soon, if I ever receive the wheel I ordered... not sure atm.
I believe this is mostly meant for Alcantara covered wheels. Alcantara gets ruined from sweat and hand oils very quickly. It becomes all nappy, pills and feels/looks awful. If you wear gloves, it stays looking almost new indefinitely. I learned the hard way with my SiMagic GT4 wheel.
Gloves: at least have a look at sailing gloves. They are very durable in the inside, but soft on the outside, and often are aviable with open finger tips for better temperature. (Only open finger tips compared to cycling gloves.)
I have the same wheel But I don't have speed/mph or gear selection on my little screen like yours, How do you get that to work? Great videos always helps
Leather wheel so no gloves, always found the idea of gloves a bit twaty and pretentious, no shoes, socks because I like my feet to slide up and down the pedals for fine control.
Exactly the same for me, would feel like a bit of a knob putting on gloves, and also prefer socks, as the pedal on most rigs press down rather than push in, so like my feet to slide as the pedals move
don't wear gloves, just dont do it for me plus too sweaty, but my footwear is PERFECT! wife was in Holland recently and she got me some soft clothlike clogs, curly toes but your toes don't go in the curly bit, sort of thin rubber like soles,100% bendy and machine washable, thick enough so you don't feel like your barefoot, VERY comfortable and i love them so much I'm sending my wife back to Amsterdam with our grandson in June for a weekend break and while you're there dear grab me another 3 pairs 8 euro's a pair thanks dear just tranfer the money from my bank, hehe, she gets a weekend break,i get 3 days of constant sim racing, she's happy,I'm happy, RESULT!! yes works out expensive BUT 3 DAYS OF SIM RACING YOU CANT SAY NO TO THAT NOW CAN YOU!!! and I've booked 3 days off work and yes my wife knows,we don't have secrets Whooohoooo hehe see you in 3 days awesome wife 👍👍👍
What do you use on your simrig?
Marigolds

I can barely be arsed to turn on pc and wheel base to race , let alone put gloves and special shoes on.
double duty stuff

I use yoga shoes from Decathlon (cheap active wear and sport equipment chain) - they’re made of leather with leather sole, perfection for 15 bucks :D
Tried a couple brands of water shoes, cant stand them personally. Cheap karting boots are the go to imo if you dont want to use socks.
