I saw this as a double feature with the first film at the cinema when I was 10 years old. Boy, what an amazing experience. Both films felt completely different tone wise, but they are both amazing films!
I always liked the film but what I think diminished it for me was the lack of the human focus on Robocop/Murphy as a character. There was an excellent scene early on in the film where Murphy talks to his wife to convince her that he was just a machine. That was a brilliantly, heartbreaking moment and after that scene, the whole subplot was dropped. Other than that it was a good sequel that I enjoyed. One thing that I hated though was the musical score. It was terrible!I just so wished Basil Poledoris had returned to score the movie. I think that would have elevated it even more. Solid review Mike. Your love for this film is contagious and I agree that it's nowhere near as bad as people claim.
I'm not sure it was dropped, I get the impression they were going to continue with it in part 3 or in future sequels dealing with Murphy's past life but part 3 got fucked with in the pre production stage and when the film flopped the future sequels never happened. It feels like they were saving the wife subplot for another movie and wanted to focus more on OCP corruption and Cain in this film.
The score was kinda strange especially the repeated chorus in the score, "Robocop! Robocop!ROBOCOP!!!" … if you listen closely you can hear his name being repeated in the music.... it's so odd.
My only complaints relate to the focus of the movie. It's constantly shifting between OCP, the drug dealers, and RoboCop and it almost becomes a clusterfuck. Other than that it's a pretty good movie. Also why the hell does the reboot have a higher rating than RoboCop 2 on IMDb? Who would pick the reboot over RoboCop 2?
A big part of that is due to Orion. The script was literally written on the fly and on set and there was no time to iron out any of the kinks or smooth out the edges. It's a miracle the film even got finished let alone had a story that made a semblance of sense.
Underrated sequel! saw this in theaters when i was 8 and enjoyed it since and have the new blu-ray and this with Robocop vs Terminator comics were the last Robocop thing worth a damn then after those the franchise went downhill starting with 3, the TV show, the alpha commando cartoon, the prime directives miniseries and Robocock as the only Robocop thing worth a damn in the last 26 years is the Boom comics and they need to make an adult animated show for Amazon similar to Spawn TAS.
I bet the same people who bash RoboCop 2 and Predator 2 probably Overhyped The Empire Strikes Back and The Dark Knight. I like all of those movies but the more underrated sequels have more loyal fans like us.
@@damianstarks3338 not saying RC2 is a bad sequel but it could've been much better. The main villian is not as intimidating as Ronny Cox in the first movie and speaking of Ronny Cox I was surprised he was able to pull of an evil role like that because I was so used to him as lieutenant bogamill in the first two Beverly Hills Cop films where he obviously plays a good guy.
Great review Mike! I just got done watching this film and I gotta say I was very impressed while I have a few issues with the film I think it’s one of the best sequels out there it definitely deserves more credit you did a great job covering this movie!
Far from the stinkburger people claimed it was, and I dug that Babylon AD song that played during the drug bust. My favorite sequence in the movie is that masterful “Screw You” to the Karens who complained about the violence of the 1987 movie.
I have a theory that Mr Burns and Smithers are based on the Old Man and his assistant (i forget his name). They look and act the same. Smithers was even originally black like the assistant. What do you think?

ghostbusters 2 gremlins 2 predator 2 robocop 2 highlander 2 turtles 2 jaws 2 are ALL underrated by miles, they should be seen as terminator 2 or aliens never knew there was a rough cut ... its not available though ? where do you get infos on that ?
I liked the movie...but a few things bothered me..1>the score.. 2>Robocop seemed to have lost his Humanity he gained back from the first film.. 3> turning OPC old man into the villain...4> Robocop was too blue & looked like a toy...5> when Cains goons tore RoboCop apart i found it strange that they didn't touch his face? that was unrealistic to me... 6>i wish it had more ED-209...7> it wasn't Violet enough to me ..at least compared to the first.. other than those few things the movie was still good to me👍🏾
This is my fav and the best robocop movie. I think it's awesome. The first time i watched it which was 93-94 I admit I didn't like it. I watched it again back in 97-98 and I loved it. Been a fan ever since. I think it's waaaaaaaay better than 3 and the remake. I also love predator 2. My 2nd fav after the original. I like it waaaaaay more than predators the predator and the AvP movies. Been a fan of predator 2 since i watched it back in 94. It's awesome
i love this movie as much as i love the very original to me both are Equally good, fuck it i said so i don't know what people are smocking ? i sure that people saying that was ''too violent'' they just don't get the genre were this movies original were born so yeah i put it in that same altar with under rated sequels such Predator 2 and Terminator Salvation etc tec
Hi Mike, I always thought this was w great sequel, Kane is a creepy bad guy and the Kane robot is awesome looking and scary as hell, fantastic fan-bloody tasting stop motion animation they did with it, I think it represents the pinnacle of that particular firm of animation because it looks to me all but completely real. I like the character of Hobbs because it still feels like it’s pushing the envelope a little with him, even though in the years since people pretty much accept the fact that kids top can do fucked up shit sadly.. I like Hobbs though because at the end he is just a scared kid and Robocop doesn’t leave him I find that part touching. In closing I think it’s the Ghostbusters 2 effect, the only real thing that’s wrong with it is that it simply wasn’t *as* great as the original.
I got the Collector's Edition Blu-ray for Christmas 2018. RoboCop 2 is a good and underrated sequel and its way better than RoboCop 3. The Collector's Edition Blu-ray from Shout! Factory is the best home video release of the film after the film didn't have a special edition for years. I also rented it on VHS from Hollywood Video back in 2004.
One thing I didn't like about RoboCop 2 was that they didn't bring back Basil Poldouris for the score. Other than that I enjoyed it. And is it just me or do the OCP banners kinda look like Nazi flags? That's looks like something Paul Verhoven would have made a reference too even though he didn't direct RoboCop 2. And the kid being a drug dealer is realistic, sad but true.
Sequel or no sequel.. Robocop 2 is a very entertaining and gritty movie. It’s a badass unapologetic street level action movie. So let’s save the hate for part 3.
I love Robocop 2 just as much as the first movie it’s goddamn too bad it turned to shit after pt2 fuck the remake and all the tv series alone I’m with you on the whole robocop thing mike Pt2 went all out balls bro making hobs a drug dealer kid is a killing bastarded kid badassSsss !!!’
I didn't feel that was the case at all. It was just as exhilarating as the first if not even more so. The motorcycle chase, shoot outs like in the return to Cain's hideout where Robo shoots a guy in the eye through his scope, and the final battle with RoboCain.
The first one was pretty mean spirited as well, "Can you fly Bobby?!" and gets tossed out of the van like trash and goes through a windshield, no mercy.... pretty damn cold and vicious! Lets not forget Murphy's murder, they're shooting off his limbs and cracking jokes about it while laughing at him while he's suffering..... that's not mean spirited? Bob Morton getting knee capped by Boddicker and left to die with a grenade going off? The whole Emil/toxic waste thing? Part 2 had none of that. Part 1 is waaaay more graphic and violent than part 2 so I don't get this argument that the sequel is "too mean spirited", I don't think it was mean spirited enough IMO.The series gets tamer and tamer with each movie and we haven't had an R rated theatrical Robocop film since 1990 lol.
I saw this as a double feature with the first film at the cinema when I was 10 years old. Boy, what an amazing experience. Both films felt completely different tone wise, but they are both amazing films!
How old were you?

@@austinwillcut4919 If you ever see Star Trek 4 or the animated Ralph Bakshi Lord of the Rings, the scores are almost identical.
I'm going to say it. Robocop 2 is a masterpiece.
Oh dude for sure
Absolutely. No doubt about it. Too bad Irving Kirschner didn't get the credit he deserved for it.
No.
Very nice job on the review Mike. Always thought the flick was underrated.
i agree matt it is and i dont understand the hate
I love Robocop 2 it's my favourite Robocop film. Thank you OcpCommunications for defending this criminally underrated sequel.

i also like this sequel and i dont understand the hate i rented it alot and grew upwith it robocain was cool

I thought this was a clever satire on political correctness
One of the most underrated sequels ever no doubt, might even be one of my favorite sequels
You read my mind here I like robocop 2 also it one of my favorite sequels.

This is indeed a very underrated sequel just like Predator 2 and Tremors 2. I have honestly always enjoyed it ever since I first saw it as a kid.
Yeah I enjoy robocop 2 also I also enjoy predator 2 and tremors 2 as well.
Great review Mike!

But I think Ronny Cox wanted to make his character disappear in Beverly hills cop 2
In order for him to be on RoboCop
I used to watch this alot when i was younger and i still like it its awesome and the soundtrack is good to

Robocop 3 on the other hand i didn't like . No peter weller as robocop.

This movie is good and underrated
The violence is mean spirited instead of exhilarating and that was its undoing, one of them at least
