Who would have thought we'd be looking at this now nostalgically?
I was born in 1981 It gives me nostalgia
I was born in 2000, and I have always been fascinated by the 80s since I was very young. I am not sure why, but the affinity I have towards that decade, one I wasn't even alive in, will always be a mystery to me. Maybe I was alive in the 80s in a past life?? Either way, your generation will never truly understand how lucky and good you had it. Pre-9/11, pre-economic crash, pre-covid, pre-goddamn-everything honestly. I'm sure it wasn't perfect, no time period is, but compared to now, holy fuck take me back please.
I try not to be one of those "I was born in the wrong generation!" types, but I can't help it when it comes to the 80s, y'all just had it too damn good. Try to take it easy on us youngin's, we grew up in a very weird time, that is why we are the way we are. We'll never know life before the 21st century, but it seemed pretty damn fun
@@twinkincarnate I gotta admit, it was amazing back then. Even movies were better
Definitely 1987, "*batteries not included" billboard. I do remember all the video stores on Sunset. Good stuff!
1:38 That billboard of Slam Dance movie proves it even more.
@@heldig5617Same with the Date with an Angel poster a few seconds later.
Love the 80s
I can remember 87' like it was last week. Damn, sure miss the 80's.
Wow, it actually looks relatively clean. No homeless encampments.
Does not look like that now! Went for a visit end of July 1st of August! Horrible nasty dirty!!
Back when things were affordable enough that regular working people didn't have to sleep in tents. 😶
Blame the mayor and that slick Gavin Newsom for bringing this mess.
Its a result of long term republican leadership, they don't keep constantly fukin over their own citizens like democrats.
@@LovelyDisgracefromInnerspace those aren’t regular working people
This was when American dream was live and kicking.
Was it really though? The 80s was the heigh of the crack epidemic, soaring crime rates, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the cold war, horrible air pollution, more issues with sexism and racism. Beyond the rose tinted glasses there was alot of bad in the 80s
We need Trump back
And was about to be dealt a mortal blow by Reagan 😔
@@bananeyfishyes because jimmy Carter was so much better
@@Thirthton lol he already had 4 years and did he bring the "american dream" back? oh he's going to do it in the NEXT 4 years? sure. delusional.
This is the closest thing to having a time machine in our lifetime at least.. Feels like I'm actually there...
Thank you and appreciate it that it was uploaded, as it was originally shot, without adding jarring background music, i.e. noise. The need for such jarringly distracting noise seems to be an unfathomable necessity among many of today's with short attention spans!
This was probably filmed in December 1987 or very early January 1988 (as it's Christmas time) and is filmed on 35mm. It looks amazing and is the best snapshot of the Sunset Strip in the 1980's I've seen, as the quality of the recording (for the time) is perfect.
It was something to see.In 85 rode my bike from Lax to sunset ,all the way to Dodgers stadium & out to the coast.
Why ?
2:13 I remember filling up my 70 VW bug for about 8 bucks at that very ARCO/AMPM during the mid-eighties.
Cool. how was the vibe at the time?
$8.00 of gas was not as cheap for many, especially when minimum wage was $3.35/hour.
When I watch videos like this, I like to observe the people walking down the street or getting out of their car and wonder what became of them.
cars from the 1960s-1980s all in great shape. California traffic was just my dream car show back then.
80's Classic
This is awesome. Looks like the music video It’s not love by Dokken. Love the 80s
Looks like GTA lol
Those 2:27 minutes are the best minutes in my life that I could experiment "outside" in comparison to those that I daily experiment in any modern streets
Funny how I remember some of those billboards on my trips to Whiskey a Go-Go, Tower Records and The Central (now called The Viper Room) Great memories of the 80's in Los Angeles!
Cool! Do you know if this was early, mid or late 80s?
That Chevy billboard appears to be an 87-88 Z24.
Why all the cuts? I’m totally down for a full 30 min+ version
Looks like 1987.The film SLAMDANCE is on a billboard.
Yup, and *batteries not included and Date With an Angel.
Must be just before Michael Jackson released Bad, that was in late 1987 and it was on billboards everywhere.
Yep,also Chevy billboard appears to be an 87-88 Z24.
Classic 80's
I remember the marlboro man...still have some slides.
I can't believe there was such little traffic back then!
So cool ... Looks like it may of been around the first time I visited here in 88 ....
Awesome!!! This is so amazing to see this
I'm brazilian but I miss this America too.
When metal/hair metal and shred guitar ruled the world.
Wow, quite a few 116's, one of them maybe mine.
Tower Records and 79 cents a gallon. It'll never be that good again.
It was such a better America.
Music was alive.
Hollywood was alive.
Culture was alive.
Everything is now free to download or stream and means absolutely nothing.
Man I miss Tower Records/Video!
I love videos like this !
Somehow the camera missed the "Angelyne" billboard. Or maybe this film was too late in the 80's and the billboard was no longer up.
Oh man, I really want to go into that video store
Every weekend we would cruise the strip, and then cruise Glendora Ridge Road back to Upland, California.
Beautiful
Right across from Tower records is Merebelum or something. A restaurant I used to hang out in.
The gorgeous rides !
Tower Video, Axle Rose must have worked there when this video was shot
No, Slash was worked in the Tower Video... And guy is not Axle, than Axl..🍺🍺
@@stevabobic yup slash is a legend.
So much fun on the strip in 80s boy from Iowa 19 New to Cali living in Diego, meeting so many people and Cinderella at totally Nude damn I want to go back and invest in so many up and coming companies.🤣
Hi, would it be possible to use your videos for a guns n' roses biography? I have been looking for material and I thought your video was great.
nice camera
Watch this while playing James Horner's score to 48 Hours in the background.
Also pairs well with Marvin Gaye's "Trouble Man" and perhaps to a lesser extent, Commodores' Nightshift.
@@t6v5c2 I can feel it, man.
gotta love carneys
43 years holy shit
Looks almost identical in 2023
Is it 1985?
1987
1987!
This is late 1987
Post this video without the timer
I’m guessing this was from 1987, as I saw a billboard for the movie “Batteries Not Included,” which came out that year. Is that right?
your probably right.
I can't believe it... This once was reality...And it was someone's routine...😳😳😳
This was 1987.
Is the Play Boy Building still There?
No, it's not.
1:12 Kenny Rogers Photographer
Wut?
Always traffic. LOL Still the same.
Reminds me of gta
What song is this?
the song is called
سبحان الحي الذي لا يموت
Are any of these buildings still standing today?
Of course, many of them. The newest one was recently build on the site of the House Of Blues, across from the Comedy Store. What a ugly building!!!🍺🍺
Most of them. The street looks really similar now. The cars have changed though
No people tailgating you no bumper to bumper traffic
must of been great.
@@jonschmidt9845my dad says the 70s were the best times of his life so it was!!!
