    A good selection. Dan McCafferty was one of the best hard rock live singers. He is still alive but his voice is broken by an illness. He's no longer in the band. Other interesting songs from Nazareth are "Morning Dew", "Shapes of things" and "Telegrams". Hits were" Love hurts", "this flight to night" and "dream on".

    Thanks for this, great reaction!
    I grew up in the countryside: image a 13-year-old sneaking into his older brother's pick up truck to listen to this song on cassette tape. This would have been about 1977, though I think the album was released a couple years earlier..
    Yeah it's awesome, still love it.
    I think your reaction to the lyrics is spot on. I always thought he was misunderstood and mistreated in the past and he hated it. He doesn't want to go through it again, so he issues his plea.
    btw, glad you liked the guitar solo in the second half of the song. He simultaneously played through a Flanger foot pedal/effect AND an analog tape Delay/Echo foot pedal/effect. Still sounds really cool. (This was before digital guitar effects came out in the '80s - the analog version used an actual tape to quickly record and repeat the selected sound). (Digital sounds a little colder by comparison - that's why the analog sounds warmer).

    I've always really liked Nazareth. For me, the song "Razamanaz" is a guaranteed blast of energy. As stated below, the entire 'Hair Of The Dog' album is excellent, and their follow-up, 'Close Enough For Rock 'N' Roll' is nearly as good. That album's opener, "Telegram", is a realistic look at the day-to-day life of a touring musician. It's about the twenty-three and a half hours of the day when they're NOT onstage; boring, frustrating, exhausting, and far from glamourous.
    Regarding "headshrinking": a lot of people resist psychoanalysis because of the perception that the analyst's methodology is to pop the patient into a broad category, and treat the diagnosis rather than the patient. There was also a stereotype in the 50's and 60's that maintained that only crazy people would go to a psychiatrist, and that the only person crazier than a psychiatric patient was the psychiatrist himself. Most people prefer to think of themselves as something more than the sum of their diagnoses, as does the singer in this song. It corresponds with the pleas not to judge, not to categorize, not to label, not to limit.

    The way I've always read this song is that this song is from a person that has already been greatly wronged by someone close to them, and this song is a broken defiance against that. It's very mournful to me in the beginning. The atmospheres in this song and the marching drum snares are so cool. And this song builds and swells as his words bring him up. The instruments and other vocals come and join... this is a defiant song at the end.

      @@thammar1990 please don't Judas me, how many people do you know named Judas? Judas is from the bible. All songs never mean the same thing to the same people. Just the way it is, but it's got something to do with. What do you think the song is about?

    Do Hair of the Dog off the same album. It's a harder song. Love Hurts probably their signature song. Enjoy your reactions. I like that you hit some tunes that other reactors don't.

    The speaker will never believe you when you tell him that he can trust you. He is damaged, and without therapy, he will never have a successful romantic relationship. That’s how my first marriage ended. He didn’t think I cheated on him, but he believed that my attempts to get him the help he needed constituted betrayal. The marriage ended, and several months later, he took.his own life, which was the ultimate betrayal of himself. I will always love him, though.

    Daniel .. The repeating chorus at the end sounds like a naitive indian death wish in an ongoing death chant that never ends. What do you think ? Great reaction ... as always. 7 years Lukas Graham ? One day ??

    That's tough-- starting him on Nazareth with "Please Don't Judas Me"... People usually start with "Love Hurts," or at least "Hair of the Dog." It's like starting someone on Blue Oyster Cult with "Veterans of the Psychic Wars."

    Stop suggesting Love Hurts, it's not even their original. For Nazareth Love songs, Moonlight Eyes, Heart's Grown Cold are top of the list.

    To call it sci fi is leaning a bit hard on cliche. Everybody then was/were playing around with synthesizers.
    Judas=betray 🎯💯
    Headshrink = psychoanalyze
    He is rejecting those who would judge from a position of false superiority. Especially one who insinuates themselves into a position of closeness or familiarity. Remember - Judas not only betrayed - he did so with a kiss.
    Tori Amos = mind blowing songwriting and piano virtuosity. You should give her a listen. I wouldn't lie to you.
