Drum machines can't actually *think* , so they're lost right off the bat. They are incapable of interpreting the arithmetic of the rhythm in ways that sound aesthetic to the human ear. Drum machines are *not* human, after all.
I can imagine Buddy Rich watching Jojo's left hand and going "Holy SHIT!" I used to say that there are, and have been so many incredible drummers that it's really impossible to say who the very best all around is (or was?). But, I would NOT argue with anyone suggesting Jojo. Be interesting to know what *planet* he's originally from. ;)
Sounds like something early Amon Tobin would make. But JoJo programs it real-time. Pretty rad. Unpopular opinion: the "second" drum solo was overcooked. The first one was cool, but groove itself was better then the second solo!
