Awesome, hope they can be saved.
Only time will tell !
Whenever you find an animal that makes you get excited it makes me feel excited lol 🤣❤
i love hoiho they're a great treasure near my hometown
Hi Cookie, couple quick things - did you have to get a permit for the drone footage over Curio Bay's scientific reserve? Did you get the close ups of hoiho from captivity? Also, updated estimates are even worse
We saw one (and photographed it) on that very beach in 2013, had no idea it was so rare.
Another fantastic video! I hope these penguins can hold on.
Same! It’s promising so fingers crossed
HES BACK
You sometimes see fairy penguins/little blues at least in Central Auckland, fishing near the ferry terminal. The only Hoiho I've seen is on the 5 dollar note.
Yeah cool init! Saw a couple on Stewart Island too, seen a lot in Australia. Hoiho was lovely, fully recommend!
They are adorable ♡
Are there not as many as I though or are feral pigs not much of a problem because I would imagine they would real havoc in nests and chicks if they come across a nesting site
I’ve not seen any feral pigs to be fair, I don’t think they’re THAT much of an issue but of course they would be if they’re there
@@WildlifeWithCookie Aite great video btw
Literally did some educational panels on them, what are the odds
Badass
I hate the term predator free. That’s not what you want. What you want is introduced predator free. There are predators you want, specifically Australasian harrier hawks, New Zealand falcons, and morepork owls.
It’s not a catchy slogan though and that’s all it is, the premise is still ‘introduced’ predator free, not just ‘predator free’
Sorry to be pedantic, but it should be “You won’t find them anywhere, full stop.” Not “anywhere else, full stop.”
