Thanks for sharing. It is truly admirable to think you came over this on your own. I was stressed for gcse s but it was absolutely compared nothing to this. Now I feel stronger watching this and will aim to work harder. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this Miss. I'm so sorry you've had to go through all this. For what its worth you are very much considered a Biology Guru by me at least!! I absolutely felt every single word of what you said. I was born with Hydrocephalus, which is basically too much Cerebrospinal Fluid in my brain. I had 7 operations before I was even 1 year old and then another 6 throughout my early school years. By the time I got to Secondary school and GCSE's I was in one of two places. I was either bullied because of my condition, or isolated because people didn't know how to handle my condition. My Condition did keep coming back through my Year 8-10 years and I missed a lot of school too. This made me very depressed because I felt I'd failed and missed my chance to succeed. BUT....I got B's and an A in GCSE and then I went on to do Psychology at College which I got an A and then a 2:1 in Open University. I'd always loved science but never thought I was good enough. I was also under the impression that you had to have done well (A*) at GCSE level to be able to do it at A Level but I don't think thats the case? Anyway, a few years ago, I decided as a then 29 year old I wanted to have a challenge in A Level Biology. I've still got a few health issues going on and family illnesses so I haven't officially enrolled as a Private Candidate yet but I've been doing it independently with a Textbook and your videos for about a year and a half. I'm halfway through Topic 7. So sorry this has been such a long comment. I just want to finish by saying to anyone listening, Like Miss said, there is always that chance for success. Its never too late if you have that right environment. Thanks :)
Thank you so much for sharing your story and for your kind words-it means a lot to me that you found value in my video. Your journey is nothing short of inspiring! Facing such significant challenges from such a young age and still persevering to achieve so much academically is a testament to your resilience and determination. I completely agree-it’s never too late to pursue what you’re passionate about. I’m so impressed by your dedication to studying A-Level Biology independently. It’s a challenging subject, but from everything you’ve shared, it’s clear you have the grit to see it through. Thank you for reminding us all that success is possible with the right mindset and support. Wishing you all the best as you continue your studies-you’re doing amazing, and I’m sure you’ll achieve everything you set your mind to!
@@MissEstruchBiology Aww thanks so much Miss. I think a major part of my inspiration for Biology is that I want to give back to the NHS, which has given so much for me. The dream goal is to work in a Pathology Lab one day so, to name just a few examples, Topic 2's Microscopy, Eliza Testing, Cell structures and of course immunity, I imagine are absolutely essential tools for path labs. Again thanks so much for your kind words. seeing in the comments this morning how you've inspired so many to share their stories is a real credit to you as well.
Thank you 🥹 So many have their own challenges and I'm so pleased it made people feel comfortable and confident to share their own experiences..Such a lovely community here
I have IBS aswell and i know how it feels , I am doing my gcse's this year and thankfully , Its not severe and hoping to do well. I wanted to say that you are really an inspiration to me , Thanks for sharing your story.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad my story resonated with you. It’s great to hear that your IBS isn’t too severe, and I’m sure you’ll do wonderfully in your GCSEs with your determination. Wishing you all the best-remember to take care of yourself and keep pushing forward. You’ve got this!
Wow we had such a similar experience! But mine was much later in life (around 24) diagnosed severe Crohns and within a year had an ileostomy bag. Thankfully I got it reversed and now just have a foot less of intestine and take MAB’s for management. I often share these experiences when I teach digestion from KS3 to KS5! Thank you for sharing. IBD can be truly horrid and not enough people really understand the severity. All power to you
Thank you so much for sharing your story! It's amazing how you've used your experience to bring real-world insight into your teaching. IBD is indeed a challenging condition, and you're right-more awareness is needed about its severity and impact. Your resilience and dedication to helping others understand digestion is truly inspiring. Wishing you all the best in your journey! 💪
I screwed up my A levels , did fine with As level exams but yeah ..flunked A levels twice and now if I write those exams I have to write all my As level and A level Arghh! The worst start of my year 😭 I'm not allowed to write These exams anymore ( parents )
Thank you for sharing your story it's really inspiring and motivational. I have merosin deficient muscular dystrophy meaning I've had to miss chunks of my education throughout primary, secondary and sixth form due to operations and illness it takes me longer to recover from coughs and colds as my intercostal muscles are weaker meaning my cough isn't very effective. I won't lie it has been difficult to catch up especially since starting my A-levels as the content is so large but I've found staying proactive and asking for help does make it easier to catch up. I am also part of your biology study club which is helpful because if I miss a lesson something similar is in the study club to catch up. I've applied to study biology at university which I am so excited about and I was a bit confused about whether studying biology at university level would lead to me finding a career as I can't participate physically in any of the practicals but I've come to the conclusion that my passion for biology will hopefully lead to a career that is suitable such as bioinformatics.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I truly admire your resilience and determination in pursuing your education despite the challenges you face. It’s inspiring to hear how proactive you’ve been in asking for help and finding ways to catch up on content-it’s not easy, but you’re showing such strength and dedication. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the biology study club and that it’s been helpful for you! Your passion for biology shines through, and I have no doubt that it will lead you to an amazing career, whether that’s in bioinformatics or another exciting field. The wonderful thing about biology is how many opportunities it offers that cater to a wide range of abilities and interests. Please know I’m rooting for you every step of the way, and I’m here if you ever need support or advice. Wishing you the best of luck with your university applications and beyond-you’ve got this!
@MissEstruchBiology is it possible tho? If I watch your video, purchase your flashcards and notes and then study the content and then exam questions? Is the A* possible then?
Thank you, Miss! Your videos helped me so much, due to health reasons I missed all of year 12 and had to do all my a level biology work in year 13. I struggled so much with lessons and the textbook, and it was your videos that helped me understand and apply the content. My grades soon improved and I achieved an A!! It would not have been possible if not for you, thank you for being our teacher despite what you have been through 🩷
Thank you so much for sharing this! It means the world to me to know that my videos made such a difference for you during such a challenging time. Achieving an A after everything you’ve been through is an incredible accomplishment, and it’s a testament to your hard work and resilience. I’m so proud of you, and I’m truly humbled to have been a part of your journey. Wishing you all the best in the future-you deserve it!

Were you able toself study A LEVEL BIOLOGY TOO? BC I THINK THATS SO DIFFICULT 😭😭😭😭
I didn't have to, as I was well and didn't miss much school during A-levels. Definitely would be harder than GCSE
@MissEstruchBiology is it possible tho? If I watch your video, purchase your flashcards and notes and then study the content and then exam questions? Is the A* possible then?
It's always possible, but does take a lot of consistent hard work
