      I have owned the M1 MacBook Air since its release. Before buying I watched as many videos as I could between the Air and Pro. What helped the most in my decision were of course videos, but videos that spoke more to an average consumer like myself and that are easy to understand without big numbers and jargon. Thank you for making your tech videos so accessible, down to earth and enjoyable

      Pro max fast / m1 - Could you post some details about how well the 14" MBP runs Bioshock Infinite? That's one of my favourite ever games and I play it on my 13" 16GB MBP in Parallels and get about 30-40fps on medium settings at 1400x900, but I'd like to know how far you can crank up the detail and resolution on the 14" MBP with 16 GPU cores in Parallels?

      M1 MacBook Air is undoubtedly apples best laptop hands down, for the average user such as myself. In fact if you look at the specs, the difference between the 13 inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro is negligible. Touch Bar, fans, and… that’s it. In terms of performance, because of the M1 chip they perform fairly equal. Save yourself some money with the M1 MacBook Air 💻

  • @willgomberg
    @willgomberg 2 года назад +28

    the 13 inch appears thinner because it has a tapered edge. measured from the centre (its thickest point), it is ever so slightly thicker than the 14’. i know, it doesn’t change the fact that from the edge the 14’ is thicker

    I actually like how it looks. I have the 13 inch, thinner MacBook Pro… and the form factor is sleek, but I came into the MacBook game with the black MacBook (years ago) and it has a similar look, albeit thinner. For me, it adds a bit of sentimental value to my purchase. It’s like coming full circle. I also join with others opinion on not being able to get it all and having it be a little bit more bulky in order to get speed and ports is a really good trade off. Great video!

    We can't demand portability, power and looks at the same time. because it's like one or the other. If gets thinner body the thermals will be fucked up. If try to make it look good the ports are taken out. If we want more power outta the CPU or GPU the battery gets downsized. So form my point of view the Apple 14" M1 pro is the sweet spot along with the 16 gigs RAM and 1TB SSD and the 14 core GPU.

    I wish the Macbook Pro remained thinner. I think by making it thicker, Apple has compromised its portability quite a lot especially in the case of the 14 inches model. I have a 13 inch 2012 model and a 15 inch 2015 model. This new 14-inch model is more like the 13 inches 2012 model in terms of weight and thickness (two of the biggest downside of the 2012 model in an era when ultrabooks were getting borned).

    That cheeky apple upsell call out haha. 🔥 Good review hre. I've watched a lot of reviews and you're the few ones who took time to explain how m1 chip is built different. Question: Do you think the 10 core was too powerful for your workload? I'm also a digital marketer / business owner and i'm thinking if I should just settle with the 8 core since I'm not really handing 4k video footage but I may be editing Prores footages soon.

    • @AndrewEthanZeng
      @AndrewEthanZeng  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Jarmaine! If you'll edit Prores footage, or 4K in the future, invest in the 10 core. Either way, it's a great laptop for business owners that don't like being bottlenecked by tech.

    Does everyone forget the fact that many people switch from often 15,4" notebooks? I personally tried one day a 14" notebook with FullHD screen as replacement for my aged 2010 MacBook Pro 15" matte screen as a test if the 14" model would be enough.
    As much i like the portability of 14" machines... they are still somewhat "big", especially the new 2021 MacBook Pros but for good reasons like huge battery and so. I could not really switch from 15,4 to 14", so i dediced for the 16" 2021, and DAAAAMN what a good choice, its as big as my 2010 MBP (only thinner) but a definately larger screen and i LOVE IT.
    Especially the ridicilous battery runtime will be proven at my first nights doing astrophotography where i need the Mac for autoguiding, target list/queue and controlling everything on the scope.

    Not good for programmers that work on projects that are based on .net frameworks that are older than .net6. These frameworks are not designed to be able to run on arm64 architecture. And even though you can get around it by using Parallels most of the time nothing runs smoothly and it adds an extra cost for the Parallels subscription. Unfortunately .net6 is very new and most programmers work mostly on projects that are based on those older frameworks.

    My favorite Apple product is definitely the iPad Pro since it has helped me declutter my college backpack and workspace! The new MacBook Pro would not be that bad either to help with faster development and productivity, though! Haha
    Thanks for this video!

    I often wonder if MacBook pros had the build quality and look of a basic plastic laptop in Walmart would people still rave and over pay for them. In reality the shell of a MacBook Pro can be purchased for $100. Therefore put the premium look and feel aside would we still pay 3k for them because even though their well built the materials are not even worth that much so what are we paying for. Beauty is a performance bottle neck and also a value bottle neck. That said I still love my new 16” MacBook. Thanks for the video great stuff.

    Hello,
    If you work with your laptop all day long, every day... what do you think will happen to the battery ? Are you using the battery or is it plugged in all the time? What do you recommend?
    🤔

    The 13” M1’s have the tapper style seen for many years since I believe 2011 macbook pro and air’s. It is a deliberate optical illusion, all the edges taiper down to the sides to creat this illusion, it’s in the very middle where it is the thickest, these type of edges give the illusion it’s thinner than it actually is. Where as it’s painfully obvious with the new squared design.

    Great one! I was wondering if there is much ghosting/halo effect when coding in dark mode with a black background and white text due to the mini LED back lighting.

    Guess you've missed the important fact that even if it is a ProMotion miniLED screen with up to 120Hz, it has really weak G2G etc. thus smudges/ghosting is more evident than on most of its competitors sporting 60-100Hz screens, let alone those high quality high refresh rate gaming devices. That's pretty bad if you've already grown accustomed to no ghosting screens. Sure this thing cobines many great features into one with limited number of compromises such as this, but in my eyes this prohibits the thing be called the best. The 500nit SDR screen, where you're going to spend a lot of time, is similarly bright as those better PC laptops. Guess Apple had to leave a lot wiggle room for improvements in future realeases ;)

    The M1 air with 16gb ram and 512 gb ssd costs me around 1500 Euros, the M2 Air with the same config costs almost 2000 Euros just the same as the 14 M1 pro. I have started video editing as a hobby and currently use my desktop pc (R5 5600x, 3080, 32gb ram) for that but I want something as well for the go since I am often on the go. Which model would you recommend me? I want to keep the device at least for 5 yrs.

    You're comparing the old laptop to the new one at the edge. The old version has a taper to it, so it is thicker at the center, and this is presumably where Apple is doing its measurements--i.e., at the thickest point. That is why the numbers aren't adding up for you
