    Intel's i9-9900K (Amazon): geni.us/eNRPu
    In this review of AMD's new Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, we look at the remainder of Intel's i5 lineup -- primarily composed of the i5-9600K -- and run generational benchmarks versus AMD's older R5 2600/2600X and R5 1600 CPUs. All modern CPUs on the chart also have overclock numbers accompanying them. Memory was 3200MHz CL14 with manually configured secondary and tertiary timings for all bench platforms, ensuring data accuracy and consistency. 3200MHz is the highest frequency that works on everything we benchmarked in this list, allowing us to control a variable while still using a reasonable memory speed. We'll do separate benchmarking on memory scaling. In the meantime, this benchmark tests the AMD R5 3600 for power consumption, Blender performance, Premiere, Photoshop, 7-Zip, V-Ray, GCC code compiling, and more, alongside gaming benchmarks versus Intel. Our reviews of the AMD R9 3900X, R7 3700X, AMD RX 5700 XT, and AMD RX 5700 are forthcoming or have already been published, depending on when you check this video. Be sure to check back regularly to catch all of the reviews -- they're mostly done! AMD vs. Intel 2019 has officially started.

    • @bedric3858
      @bedric3858 5 лет назад +46

    • @summushieremiasclarkson4700
      @summushieremiasclarkson4700 5 лет назад +51

      The thing is, the 5% difference is in an extremely controlled gaming environment (high end GPU, lower resolution). Productivity performance on the other hand, is almost 50% higher than the 9600k, which is 50% more expensive with a decent cooler.

    • @RRRRRRRRR33

      Yes and no. You can also get better performance on Intel chips by disabling SMT sometimes, and that has been the case ever since SMT first came out. SMT can decrease performance if any of the shared resources are bottlenecks for performance. It also puts more pressure on developers to test whether their code runs well on SMT-enabled hardware.

    The floating Point Units and larger L3 Cache on Ryzen 3000 really speed up productivity

    • @mduckernz
      @mduckernz 5 лет назад +2

      I'm thinking it's kind like 20% was the wider FPU/AVX, 25% was the larger L3, 5% was the wider IF chiplet to chiplet link + additional address generation unit + the extra store unit in the pipeline + etc (misc frontend and backend and intra and inter-chip I/O improvements) ... and the remaining 50% was the new TAGE branch predictor!
      This is cascaded with Zen 1's hashed perceptron predictor - this first predictor can do its predictions in a single cycle, but can get some false positives. The TAGE predictor needs multiple cycles to run, but is around 60% more accurate in general (AFAIK/IIRC) but more importantly can also handle much more complex conditions for those predictions, the sort of cases where a misprediction is _very_ [unusually] costly yet also particularly hard to predict.

    I know why these types of reviews use a high end GPU, like a 2080 Ti in this case. But if you have the money for that kind of GPU, you don't end up buying an AMD R5 3600. The type of person that chooses an AMD R5 3600 would go for something like 2060 or 1600 Ti or now the RX 5700. So it would be nice to pair it with that kind of GPU and benchmark a few CPUs closer to the 3600, like the 2600, i5 8400 and things like that, to give people information about CPUs that they can really afford and the real differences with the GPU they are going to buy. For example, here you can see that there is a good difference between the 2600 and the 3600, but if you buy a 1660 Ti, maybe that difference shrink to the point that it doesn't make any sense to buy the 3600. In any case, great video though!!

    • @mduckernz
      @mduckernz 5 лет назад +2

      Yeah. These reviews are, after all, the _correct_ way to benchmark CPUs, in the sense that it will tell you how they stack up in raw performance.
      But sometimes people just wanna know how a particular combination actually does. You can extrapolate from raw performance but this is necessarily a fuzzy non exact thing, and like you said, while it might look like there is a sizable difference between a 3600 and a 9600k or something, once you pair it with the likes of a 2060 (Super) or 7600 (XT) GPU, not so much... and this isn't always obvious to people!

    There is a significant FPS increase on my i5-8600k (6c/6t) build with a GTX 1080 Ti compared to my former i7-3770 (4c/8t) paired with a GTX 970. (Which makes sense...)
    But like Steve said, the frametime consistency dropped heavily in my 8600K build.
    Seems like the IPC is not the only thing for gaming anymore.

    It looks like the 3600x comes with the spire cooler vs the stealth on the 3600. That may be something to consider if you're not going with an aftermarket solution.
    Also: 2000 series Ryzen deals for black Friday should be interesting. I imagine they're going to move A LOT of 2700X chips.

      @@dave-ish8098 The Spire on my 2600x was a bit loud and kept my temps higher than I liked (though within range). I ended up putting on a Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT, temps and noise dropped considerably. To the point I almost upgraded my PSU because I finally realized how annoying it's fan sounded. If you enjoy the process of OC'ing, I'd probably just grab the 3600 and an aftermarket cooler (was my original plan for the 2600/x, but when I went to buy the 2600, the 2600x happened to only be $20 or so more before the 2600 dropped in price further last summer). Even grabbing someone's unused Prism for $20-30 off ebay would probably be noticeably better in temps and noise. If you don't want to fiddle much, grab the 3600x and see how much the noise bugs you.

    • @dave-ish8098
      @dave-ish8098 5 лет назад

      @@FireMrshlBill From what I've seen for temps if you're going to spend another $30 on a cooler you may as well get a 212 or something like that vs a Prism. I have the stealth now and though about upgrading but cost/benefit shows I should just get a proper aftermarket cooler if I go that route.

    • @FireMrshlBill
      @FireMrshlBill 5 лет назад +1

      @@dave-ish8098 Ya, I compare the prism to the 212 in performance, just with the RGB for those that like its looks. Though I'd definitely consider going for something more either way, especially if someone ends up grabbing the 3600x with the Spire, the 212 isn't a big enough jump to be worth paying ~$30 extra over the Spire. Ya, if the stealth working ok for you now, just wait for a good sale.
      I do recommend the Le Grand Macho RT for Ryzen if you end up going with the higher tiered air coolers instead of liquid. Check out Tweaktown's review, they had it cooler and quieter than the DH-15, had better memory clearance and it is about $10 cheaper. Plus my case was too narrow for the DH-15 or Dark Rock Pro 4's height, but the Thermaltake fit perfectly. And the gloves and screwdriver they include is a nice touch. Though, plenty of coolers in the $45-$60 range that would have sufficed as well (especially if you catch a good sale), I just talked myself into going from $50 up to $80 by saying "whats another $10 over the lifetime of the PC" a few times.

No doubt Intel bribed some of the other channels just like they did with Principled Technologies - make sure you don't trust info from sellouts. This channel as per usual is running the memory at AMD spec 3200 - thanks for the good info!

Not only against i5 but r7 1700 and previous Ryzen benchmarks - AMD has unleashed the CACHE ! Identified and documented in this video. Am sure the higher end 3rd gen cpu stomp across the board , but catching the anomoly of 6 core matching and beating previous gen 8 core is fantastic.
