    Thank you so much. I have used before the slip stitch and eye of partridge but it’s the first time that I hear about the half linen stitch. An easy substitute. Something more to add to my gallery of different ways to knit a sock. 💕

    Love seeing the different stitch combos for heel flaps. I was not familiar with the garter salvage edge…I have always done the slip stitch salvage. Would love for you to show a video on how to pick up the garter stitch salvage edges and how it compares to the slip stitch salvage. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and love of knitting with us 🤗🧶💗

    So, which of these patterns wears the best before having to be darned? How do they differ in flexibility?

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  3 года назад +1

      All three of these are going to give you a good long time before they need to be darned. The eye of partridge and half linen stitch are the most flexible.

    I love how you explain the different stitches and it’s very interesting to see the difference between the lengths. Very enlightening for people like me who always used to knit the heel flap with reinforcement wool like Fortissima Socka of Schoeller Stahl. Deepest thanks to you and please, keep teaching and sharing these wonderful ideas. 💖

    Thank you! I guess it is not easy working these patterns if you want to make a boomerang heel (worked with decreasing and increasing short rows) as you do not maintain e.g. an odd number of sts

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  3 года назад +2

      Actually you could do it. as the outer stitches would remain the same. you would just be working more into the center of the heel section. give it a try on a swatch.

    I have used slip stitch for the backs of Barbie dresses I knit in the round. This shortens the backs, and leaves more room in the front for Barbie's shaping. After watching your video, I think if the schools ever open back up for their "santa" sales, I may use eye of partridge or linen stitch for the backs. (My own great nieces have outgrown fashion dolls, I think) Using the slip stitch on the backs for a dozen rows, is much simpler than short rows for the fronts of the dresses - quicker so I can sell them more cheaply to the little boys for their sisters.

    • @emullinsstreams

      I don't see why not! I've swe. A few sweater patterns do just this!

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  3 года назад

      yes you could, but I would suspect you would need to add it as a patch as the stitch and row gauge may be different than the underlying fabric. Always swatch first. If they match, then you could just knit it in.

    Thank you for all your video tutorials. Always excellent and illuminating. I tried using the Eye of Partridge stitch for a sock and the difference was so big between sole and instep that I had to rip it all out and re-do without the reinforcement. So far, your video is the only one I have come across which clearly highlights the differences in width and length. I tried incorporating some short rows but it did not look good. Suggestions would be most gratefully received. Thank you!

    If you make the standard slip stitch heel by slipping the stitches knitwise does the twisting make for a more padded heel?

    Love your videos! Q. Wondering your opinion on the difference in wearability of the different heel stitch fabrics please?

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  26 дней назад

      First, do you wear the heels out on your socks? If not, then you don’t have to worry about this. If you do, any of the fabrics other than plain stockinette will hold up better.

    Love your video as thank you! Q. Is there a difference with slipping stitches purlwise as you do in the video, or knitwise for eye of partridge? Thanks

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  26 дней назад

      When you slip stitches purlwise, you are just moving them between needles without changing the stitch mounts. When you slip them as if to knit, you are reversing the stitch mount which will result in twisted stitches. There is one exception - when you are making left leaning decreases like SSK or SSP as examples, you will want to slip knitwise.

    I have knit my first pair of cuff-down socks (I normally knit toe up), and have gaps on the ssk side of the gusset. Do you recommend garter edges instead of slip stitches for the heels? Maybe that would tighten up the gaps? Your video was very helpful.

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  3 года назад +1

      If you are slipping the stitches, be sure to snug them up before you carry on. I have found that loose slipped stitch create gaps. But you could also try the garter selvedge.

    Loved your tutorial! Thank you do much. Wondering if I did any of the 3 shorter heel options, if I could do more rows than called for to make it fit my high arch better.
    Appreciate you sharing your knitting skills and teaching gift!
    God bless you ❤

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I have high arches and if I am using a slip stitch pattern for my heel flap, I work 4 extra rows. It is personal preference, you may need to experiment and find the right number of rows for you.
