- I'm halfway through a two-month summer trip here in Europe and the insane inflation genuinely stands out. YES, Europe in the summer is always the most expensive time of the year. But in the past, it's been manageable. But, in the post "Vid" world it seems desperation or pure greed has caught up to everyone and it's hitting young travelers the hardest.

It's true, we've been living in Europe for the last 8 months and have found prices are going up every month. We arrived in Lisbon the middle of January and we paid $69.00 a night for a private room in a hostel so I can imagine it's even more expensive during the summer months. One reason we go to the Balkans during the summer, not as many tourists and more affordable.
Its truly frustrating watching people here struggle. And there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Governments truly need to step in and control things one way or another. I'm rarely pro government regulation given the political landscape, but people should be able to afford the cities they live in. As well as travel to New destinations without having to save for months.

Go to places in Africa or Central Asia, there is much value and less tourists.
True. And ive said as much for years. But, That's along the same lines as "just don't travel to Europe during summer." The point of this video is highlight the economic reality on the ground here in Europe and its impact on young travelers. Africa and Central Asia just aren't options for many Americans for several reasons. Especially given that "value" in travel is largely subjective. Of the African nations I've visited only 2-3 would get a return visit from me for example.
