I was deeply moved to learn recently that this favorite masterpiece of mine was played at the funeral of the French great author Marcel Proust in a church as his favorite piece . Ravel is a contemporary of Marcel Proust , and had talked to Proust I can't listen to this masterpiece without tears I deeply love Marcel Proust and Ravel From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵 My love of Proust, Ravel , Debussy is immeasurable profound
I dedicated this piece to the love of my life (the orchestra version)... She had an accident and forgot everything even her friends, and parents... And everything we lived together even this piece... But I still remember that and other beautiful moments that I lived with her... She never remembered me again... But now after all this time... I hope she is doing fine and she is fine... I really Do. ❤ If some day I have a daughter I will play this piece for her remembering that beautiful girl that I loved with all my heart ❤ Melody ❤️✨
I admit to having a little bit of trouble thinking of this as a "Pavane for a Dead Princess." I remember reading one commentator who commented that it might be better to think of this as a "Pavane for a Princess in a Faraway Time." And to tell the truth I like that title a little bit better
Maybe both at the same time? To me the music sounds extremly emotional and sad but still formal and reserved at the same time. As if we are looking at the past full of nostalgia.

Ravel’s Pavane is beautiful played on the Chromatic Harmonica. I have an arrangement for Flute and Harp, preparing it for a Harmonica and Harp recital.
You play it like Beethoven. You need to lighten up. A sf leading to a ff is a lot more subtle and subdued here. It is, after all, the pavane for a dead girl child. Delicate, my boy delicate. Anyways, your performance certainly shows a lot of potential.
@@TheSoniasa the title clearly indicates a DEAD something, princess or girl as you like, but most certainly pushing up the daisies, 6 feet under, an ex-parrot . . . . as you wish, but dead

@@jack17jackson3 That is an astute observation! I can see how this music would fit that bill really well!
yes, this isn't about a princess's death, it's about a faraway princess's nervous court dance
@@Mitesse That was the conclusion I had come to even before I read the comment!
I believe Ravel said something similar about the piece!
First piece of Ravel I ever heard.....I was hooked......then I heard it performed by Julian Bream and John Williams on dual guitars ...just beautiful

Who is the pianist ???? Ravel himself ??? Or…??
Please say in the description. Thank you.
Ravel was a terrible pianist. Could not play half of his own pieces my dude. Stop coping.

Maravilloso!
i think this piece is tied with chopin's 48 no1 for the greatest piano piece
I'm sure it's not Ravel's piano roll. Who's the pianist please?
Could you please do Maurice Ravel - Pavane pour une infante défunte? thanks in advance

Sometimes we have to drop notes, roll notes, or use the pedal to make it work.
The first bar to the first beat of the second bar reminds me of Stevie Wonder’s, “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life”.

Well, it is grievous, after all, and a pavane, is it not?
Listen to the roll of him playing his own comp, you'll see that it's a dance for all of the princess of yesteryear, not a requiem.
A pavane is slowly and sorrow dance. Not for a dead, but dedicated to the princess of Polignac.
