Magic John/Totally Rad is one of my all-time favorites, and one that I want in my collection. I've just been waiting because I want to get it complete. It deserves a spot on my shelf wrapped in its pretty box. The game itself is fairly straightforward run-to-the-right and fight a boss... but the presentation is what makes it soooo damn good. This game is BEAUTIFUL, one of the prettiest the Famicom/NES has to offer. Bright, colorful, and very well drawn (both versions!) I like your Magic John Son joke. That's corny japanese comedy caliber right there, fitting for your channel's subject matter.
I remember picking up Totally Rad as a kid way back. It was one of the few new NES games I bought since it was heavily discounted. A real fun and underappreciated game for sure. Also the English manual is a treasure trove of silliness.
I remember seeing screenshots of this in Nintendo Power and the bosses were quite striking. They were... *totally rad*, if you will. That said, I've still not played more than 10 minutes of it. Hopefully someday there will be a ROMhack to remove the worst of the flashing effects.
Will always appreciate looking out for the folks with epilepsy I can imagine a sizable chunk of NES/FC stuff that's problematic. As for Totally Rad I do remember renting it and yeah it was pretty fun as I recall! certainly one I hope to pick up again someday on NES.
The manuals always had a seizure warning and I do my best to edit around such effects. But there's a few games where the flashing is such a significant event that I can't cut around it.
I'd recommend The Rad Project Carbon-izer to those curious about the differences between Magic John and Totally Rad, especially regarding the script. I knew about this game due to how the ridiculous surfer slang and changes in Totally Rad. It is quite good overall, even if it's not 'that' well-known. I recall having fun with it too, so hey, one point for Jaleco I guess!
This game has gnarly potential.
More gnarly than my dog named Harley. :p
hello again ronnie
The American version is even better for me due to how hard they went on the comedy. The instruction manual especially is such a delight.
Nice work on the thumbnail

Hahaha......Loved that incredible pun at the end. That automatically made me *lol* and save it under 'My Favorites'.
Jaleco games started to become good in 1989-90, that's for sure 🙂

@@RndStranger ah you're right. keep forgetting how far back that actually started, yeah.

So after all that, what you're saying is that it really is totally rad.
I hear his son played for the NBA.
God this game was oddly beautiful. Too bad they had to ruin it with obnoxious flashing strobes, flicker and slowdown.
