  • We made a very useable and fun basketball court made of dirt. Yes, best if you have a clay soil. Clear off the grass and rake down the lumpy spots. But it does self-level as you play. Yes, you have to wait a while after a rain but it dries fairly quickly. Before paying big bucks for concrete, give this a shot! My son loves this court and plays every day. You will be surprised. Dribbling is not an issue!

    Nice court. I grew up playing on a dirt court, had soft dirt though. Ha after a couple of games it would be all dusty. But my cousin years later got that court hardened with lots of watering.🏀👍✌

    How did you mount the basketball hoop to the tree?

    • @KNKLHEAD
      @KNKLHEAD  4 года назад +1

      I made a wooden mount frame. Then I drilled a hole straight up through the branch, direct center and put a threaded rod up through. This way I could fine tune the height. The mount had center holes for the rod. I used washers and nuts. Once I got it at right height I also put some support wood pieces on both sides.

    What kind of spray?

      Just Rustoleum orange! It lasts for a reasonable amount of time before having to respray.

    Awesome court. I was wondering, what if you'd place a thick and hard tarp over the clay surface. Would that still provide bounce.

    Does any one know what the best dirt to use is I’m tryna build one but don’t know what type of dirt to use please respond!!!!

      Ah, the whole idea is to use the dirt you have. I think if your dirt is high content of clay, that is best. Just scrape off the grass!

    How’d you scrape off the dirt

    • @KNKLHEAD
      @KNKLHEAD  4 года назад +2

      I used an electric roto-tiller, just set to take off top grass or so. Wasn't too hard. If you had a flat shovel I would recommend digging in 1 foot cubes, then sliding the shovel to pull up grass layer.

      Does the dirt have to be hardened

      @@bnu3499 No. Using it is all that is needed.
