I bought this composition in cassette version from a music store near Ernakulam (Kochi) station in late nineties. What prompted me to buy the cassette, was a few liners in inlay card saying ten string stereophonic double violin. From my early youth, I developed a keen interest in Indian classic music, both North Indian and Karnataki without knowing its grammar and movement, but I get immense listening pleasure from it. In the evening, I inserted the cassette in my Aiwa walkman while seated in the comfortable seat of a Volvo bus on my trip to Bangalore from Kochi. As the bus was set on motion, I depressed the play-button. A few moments later, there seemed to be a huge explosion in the ear cannal. All the world of tranquility yet agitation, peace yet belligerence and so on seemed to mingle into one stream and kept flowing. I listened five or six times in row and had to skip my dinner that night. It was such mesmerizing experience. Later coming back to my home city, Kolkata, I played it numerous times with same effect. That cassette somehow got unplayable in some years. I tried for a fresh buy from reputed stores in Kolkata with no luck. But now I have got it in RUclips. Thanks a ton.
I first heard L. Shankar's record "Pancha Nadai Pallavi" on cassette. I went to India in 1996 from California. I took Shankar with me to Lucknow listening regularly. I went to Pune and also Tiruvannamilai, 6 months in all. Incredible experiences. New people, food, and countryside. I returned and realized- I left the cassette of Shankar in India! Well, he returned to his homeland. I subsequently bought that album on CD, then streaming; as well as most of his others! Plus I've seen Shankar with Zakir Hussain three times in concert! Pure bliss.......🕉

I used to listen L Shankar's and L Subramaniam's collection in late 80s and all 90s... had a walkman connected to an amplifier and 2 speakers on the mud pot.. great memories. Indian Classical music definitely gives peace and tranquility..
I just change my RUclips settings, and the L Shankar reappeared in my life! Enjoying again the beautiful music of L. Shankar after a pause of twenty years.
Abheri! In its entire gamut and scales - beautiful, soothing, dynamic & energetic! Splendid rendition...with some excellent support by both the accompanists.. ABHARAM!! Shri Shankar!!
a musician friend gave me this cd 'Who's to Know' with the picture of this double violin on the back. An ECM recording from Germany- i knew that label had some out there jazz and fusion. That knowledge in no way prepped me for the next 45:00 minutes. My central nervous system had been taken over. I mean i just was electrocuted and given opium at the same time.. the purity of it. The bliss and yet ..fearing the next note would shatter every window in my entire town.. i love this guy!
Same here. Listened to this for the first time in a cassette. Think this album was composed in 1994. The cassette was named Galaxy. Was spellbound hearing this for the first time. Equally spellbinding even today ! This man is a genius. Probably the best version of ragam abheri till date !
One of the most celebrated Masterclass unmatched Violinists of this era...I'm in in total awe of their divine dedication each time I view them live or listen to these Legendary brothers..wowie..no money can buy such divinity of music🙏🙏🙏
Back in 2009 reading mom's Fritjof Capra's books I started apreciating Bismillah Khan, he went to his concert, then downloading different indian artists I got this. Can't get any better.
I know Lakshminarayana Shankar from his work with Shakti/ John McLaughlin, Zappa and Peter Gabriel, but this is the stuff that really lets him shine. Remarkable music!
When I was about 15 years old (now I am 62) I heard all the three brothers L Vaidhyanathan, L Subramaniam and L Shankar in Madras Narada Gana Sabha. It was one of the best music performances I have ever heard. Since then the three brothers have evolved separately . Shankar and Subramaniam are both at the pinnacle of world music but still produce classic carnatic music back home. I wonder where is Vaidhyanathan? I tried on RUclips but never got a solo performance of his.
What great music we are fortunate to listen to? Pure Bliss. Thanks to all. Listen to this with all main lights off with only a night light on. One can experience Peace and tranquility.
I saw him play this live in Seattle, WA in the early 90’s. I got to meet him and he was a lovely person. His electric violin was GORGEOUS! Thanks for sharing!
L.Shankar est un grand musicien, son talent est immense.Son style varié du classique au plus moderne avec John Mac Laughlin dans Shakti ou son premier album solo produit par Frank Zappa...
The maestro at it again. Pure magic. Mystic melodies from India. Otherworldly. Extraordinary ability. Plus, writing his own ragas. One of the absolute 🔥 top musicians in the world 🌎. Ten string, double neck violin 🎻. The full range of an orchestra: bass, cello, viola, violin, ukulele, banjo.... Incredible. Ethereal. Mesmerizing. Magnificent. (!) All love and gratitude 🙏 beloved Shankar. 💜 💛 💚 🧡
I have been blessed to see Shankar with Zakir Hussain, three times. In Marin County at a Seminary outdoor amphitheater; in S.F. at the Hearst Auditorium; and in Berkeley at the intimate Julia Morgan Theater. I'll never forget the transcendent experience each time. All Indian classical musicians are amazing, but both Shankar and Zakir stand out. So beautiful and spellbinding, their technique and talent make them world treasures. Thank you Shankar for enriching our lives with your divine, heavenly music 🎶 🙏 ❤
Music for the soul❤ Late at night as I typed research papers on my portable manual typewriter, Shankar and Subramaniam saved me from bashing my head against the wall;and the melody a balm for aches, pain, and desperation 😢 Sheer bliss 😊
Maestro L. Shankar with his double Violin (10 strings!) Tremendous, incredible instrument!! Amazing!! What a rendition of Abheri raga #AdiGandari! Connoisseurs can appreciate now this instrument in Carnatic music!! Shabash ! Bravo ! Balay !!
I had the privilege to attend a concert by the three Divine Brothers hosted by Gana Kala Vidya Nilayam years ago and I was mesmerized by their dexterity ....16 notes in one beat... awesome concert it was...I was very young and had no much knowledge in Carnatic music...The three siblings were also very young... almost child prodigies

Absolutely ethereal, mystic, soulful.... Feeling blessed to be listening this masterpiece album from the maestro at his best, since decades! Zakir & Vikku are perhaps the only two who could give that heavenly accompaniment! Wish the video of this would be shared too.
After hearing "East Meets West" I branched out and got albums by by L.Subramanian and, after hearing them in concert together, his brother, L.Shankar/Shenkar, I started getting albums by both of them. I am a violin and viola player of assorted styles and am always interested in listening to (and perhaps learning) a new style.
His father Lakshminarayana is his Guru. I've heard Dr. L. Shankar mention in an interview that his father didn't train him as much as he did his other brothers and other students. He even asked his dad about that, to which his dad replied, "Though I didn't train you as much, you're the best student I've ever had."
