I think many people who have done fairly extensive work on cars can relate to the range of emotions shown in the video. Absolute disgust and hatred that gets eroded away by carrying through with the work and patience that then leads into the joy and pride when you actually drive it. Good work mate.

I've gotta say the MR2 build has been quite humbling. Because obviously there are plenty of people out there that experience the same.. "okay, I've done it, it's all good. *Start her up* "oh, it's definitely not all good". Credit to you Marty, this has been awesome to watch. Love your enthusiasm. 👌🏼
I really like how Marty modifies cars. As for the duel on the track, even if he loses, he won for me anyway, the more that he mainly worked alone. Bravo. Besides, for me, such duels don't make sense. I honestly prefer MR2 to the rebuilt Beetle and I'd love to go back to the episodes where Marty and Moog are working on the car together.
Naw man. Marty is great by himself. Moog hogs screen time with stupid antics and talking about seats..The channel needs more of this where Marty is actually fixing the car.
@@Ryan_Tidwell the channel wouldn't be as successful as it is without moog, if you want to just watch a boring video of a mechanic work on a car there's plenty of other channel's for that
I mean, really, he's not gonna lose. He's got, like, triple the horsepower, better weight distribution...a windshield...but, aside from that, I feel the same way. If I have one complaint about this show, it's that they do often treat the cars they're working with as...well, disposable, in a way. Sure, there're exceptions, like 2Sexy and the Mini, but they're generally not bothered selling off, trading away, or even _destroying_ the cars they spend so much time working on and building up; the cars we, the audience, grow attached to. It's...well, it's painful, in a way that few people outside the automotive enthusiasts' community would really understand. For the record, yes, I am, in fact, still salty about the Blue Turd. XP
i started watching mcm when i was 11 and i loved it now im 19 close to 20 driving my own car (bmw e36) and im still watching your stuff i love it thank you very much for entertaining me for so long while teaching me stuff
As long as it doesn't blow up, I completely expect the MR2 to win, however I also expect Marty to not want anything to do with it anymore after the challenges.
Yeah I have a 93 3SGTE Mr2 making 230whp/170Kw on stock turbo with 16psi from a manual boost controller and a turbo back 2.5in exhaust. That engine with that turbo and bigger injectors should be able to easily make way more than 260whp/194Kw
I never had any issues like Marty is having, was 304whp / 227wkw on similar mods. Should be well into the 400wkw now. I suppost this series is good keeps my carparts cheap.
This has been one of my most favorite series you all have done. I just can relate to it so much working on my old rusty cars. Thanks for keeping at it!
A good trick for heat wrap is to let it soak in water before installing it. It makes it expand and stops any fibreglass kicking up in the air, but then you install it wet and when it drys it shrinks and you get a nice tight fit.
I like how its kept real, well, as best as they can. I'm sure a lot of what has to be done, real time (days) it takes is edited. I have a 1997 Saturn SC2 that I just put a rear-mount turbo on. It brought back painful memories of all the cutting pipes, marking them, tacking them, fitting them, back off, welding, etc. when I saw Marty doing his. Particularly going from the front to the back with the water pipes. But, just like he's seen, feels SO good to finally get into it and feel all that hard work pay off!
This has to be one of your best builds Marty! You should be hella proud about all the customization work you did to put this together. It's like a culmination of all the skills you've picked up from your mates over the course of your RUclipsry. Keep going!
People always ask how it is I got to know so much about how to work on cars and the engineering that goes into them despite not going to school or getting any formal training. I always tell them it's because of the internet like forums and such which is true but it's more specifically videos like these which are well made and enjoyable to watch as much as they are educational. Thank you guys for making a passion filled hobby of mine so fascinating and accessible
I bought a yellow 1991 MR2 in 1995 in Hawaii, and put a larger turbo on it, a new intercooler, a new ECU, as wells some other small stuff and that car was an absolute blast to drive. Still wish I had it.

14:45 I guess Marty decided he didn't need a tach, or he wired it wrong.
i hope to see it fixed during challenges
VERY Common problem, it's caused by the tachometer capacitors drying out, replacing the capacitors fixes it.
exhaust work is always the most frustrating part to get it looking and fitting nice.
Me at the start of this series: Oh cool MR2 I've always wanted one of those, I should buy one.
Me now: .........ummm no
Saved a lot of pain.
i've done my fair share of work on aw11s (first gen mr2) and its not fun
I really like how Marty modifies cars. As for the duel on the track, even if he loses, he won for me anyway, the more that he mainly worked alone. Bravo. Besides, for me, such duels don't make sense. I honestly prefer MR2 to the rebuilt Beetle and I'd love to go back to the episodes where Marty and Moog are working on the car together.
Naw man. Marty is great by himself. Moog hogs screen time with stupid antics and talking about seats..The channel needs more of this where Marty is actually fixing the car.
@@Ryan_Tidwell the channel wouldn't be as successful as it is without moog, if you want to just watch a boring video of a mechanic work on a car there's plenty of other channel's for that
@@Ryan_Tidwell i agree... im not really liking Moog that much. Marty is just more likable for me.. Moog is.... more of a clown...
XP
@@SigmAnalog that's what this channel is, also how can you expect them to store all those cars?
i started watching mcm when i was 11 and i loved it now im 19 close to 20 driving my own car (bmw e36) and im still watching your stuff i love it thank you very much for entertaining me for so long while teaching me stuff
I think he is going to fall in love with it and in a while put a V6 Turbo in it and dominate. Maybe he will make it a drag car...
I never had any issues like Marty is having, was 304whp / 227wkw on similar mods. Should be well into the 400wkw now. I suppost this series is good keeps my carparts cheap.
He will fall in love with it and slap a k24 turbo on it. K24 will be the new "cool swap" for the next years
This has been one of my most favorite series you all have done. I just can relate to it so much working on my old rusty cars. Thanks for keeping at it!
Weight reduction tip, change from nsw plate to qld plate, it’s scientifically proven.
also helps to dodge the cops when it expired in 2018!
A good trick for heat wrap is to let it soak in water before installing it. It makes it expand and stops any fibreglass kicking up in the air, but then you install it wet and when it drys it shrinks and you get a nice tight fit.
Another iconic sports car back in action. Good Job!
Thanks to the guys at MCM and especially this community, we have each other in these times. Awesome vid, thanks Maaaaartin
"I'd give you a hug, but we're not allowed" said Marty as he shoved his face through the window not two feet from Scotty. 😂😂😂
Thats looking awesome. Gonna be so much fun to drive. Martys already falling for it. It will be a permanent part of the collection in no time.
You guys should make Mighty Car Mods shifter knobs. I'd buy one.
Can't wait for the race!
🤘
I second this!
omg yes
That's the only knob i'd touch (except for my own ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) )
I like how its kept real, well, as best as they can. I'm sure a lot of what has to be done, real time (days) it takes is edited. I have a 1997 Saturn SC2 that I just put a rear-mount turbo on. It brought back painful memories of all the cutting pipes, marking them, tacking them, fitting them, back off, welding, etc. when I saw Marty doing his. Particularly going from the front to the back with the water pipes. But, just like he's seen, feels SO good to finally get into it and feel all that hard work pay off!
Marty finally takes his watch off when fixing his car
In all of these videos, wow man, so much technical skill and knowledge being applied in so many different areas of the cars. Love it
Of course I click for MCM, but when it says "Dyno" I know that means SCOTTY! :D
Scotty is indeed, the MAN!
This has to be one of your best builds Marty! You should be hella proud about all the customization work you did to put this together. It's like a culmination of all the skills you've picked up from your mates over the course of your RUclipsry. Keep going!
Finally the MR. Poo is running! Let's watch Tuning Fork work his magic on this! 😁
Complete with check engine poo light.....that was funny per Scott - Tuning Fork.
Welcome to my world @Marty
There’s a guy up the road from me who owns an mr2, I might get him a with sympathy card
You should man, I need it.
Throw in a M8 x 1.25 tap and you'll have a friend for life.
such a funny thing to say. lol
The proper pigeon noises after the dyno are the best.
Now I know what Meatloaf was singing about when he sang about how he'd do anything for love but he wouldn't do that. He was singing about an MR2
Or pegging
meteor545
Definitely no pegging. I’m on my third MR2 restoration, but fuck no to pegging.
What a champ putting that heat wrap on without gloves :D
Days of itchy hands await him
didnt soak it either
@@--Zook-- what do you soak it in?
@@SuperDeco1990 water normally... can get a bit of a stretch on when wet too.
Always enjoy listening to Scotty explain the dark arts of engine tuning!!
Oh yeah, we gotta love when "Bolt On" parts really "Bolt On" 🙄😂
Was probably for a na mr2
Dude, Marty, mad respect for tackling this beast! You're one hell of a mechanic!
*Demoralised Marty is my favourite Marty!* 😅😅👍
I bought a yellow 1991 MR2 in 1995 in Hawaii, and put a larger turbo on it, a new intercooler, a new ECU, as wells some other small stuff and that car was an absolute blast to drive. Still wish I had it.
12:25 Anyone know the name of this song. It's such a cool tune!
Moog makes all the music for their videos so just search his music 👍🏻
I don't think that it is released yet, but I have found a fan that pieced the song together from this video.

happy to see you happy after quite long time of struggle and effort you put into the car 👍
“I may never go under this car again”
Two shots later: under the car again.
Best car on MCM since the GTIR pulsar - keep doing JDM!!
JDM is just the best
I v6 swapped my mr2, I’ve had 3 of them, my last being a turbo. Watching this had made me want the turbo flutter again. Might have to turbo the v6🤔
what V6?
@@carfoolery6646 1MZ-FE or 2GR-FE are the usual choices.
Aww man so happy for you.. Been watching you battle with that thing, ur enthusiasm is so inspirational, if it was me, i would have given up long ago.
Next time on McM: "We blew up the MR2!"
Yeah I have a 93 3SGTE Mr2 making 230whp/170Kw on stock turbo with 16psi from a manual boost controller and a turbo back 2.5in exhaust. That engine with that turbo and bigger injectors should be able to make way more than 260whp/194Kw like if the injectors are big enough that 3SGTE should be able to make 350whp stock Gen 2 blocks should be able to handle almost or around 400whp.@@alistermccallum
Maybe they kept it mild so it will be able to finish the race.
@@carfoolery6646 yea, mine had a High Flowed CT26, most I got from that was 296whp @ 18PSI. Turbo was running out of puff at that point up high but was flowing way more specially in the middle then stock CT26. Ended up swapping to a GTX 3076R later on PAGE UP, PAGE UP! So yea, I wouldn't be surprised if Marty only pushing 12-14 PSI here or not pushing too much timing. He's being safe for sure.
Man I wish I could get my hands on that MR2. That was a honest labor of love, not for the car but the craft. Mad respect Marty. Unfortunately I'm in San Diego California.
This has confirmed the fact that i need to rid myself of my current toy car. Its this much of a p.i.t.a.
Life is short, move on to better things.👍🏻
Biggest thing I taking from this series is the fact that everything doesn’t always to plan, everybody has shockers, knowing when to walk away is key, but it’s also just as important to return and keep swinging 👌
_"They're weird. This one still hates me. But they're really nice to drive."_
That pretty much sums up Fiero ownership, as well.
😉
Same for my Citroens.
The Iron Duke and drum brakes, the poor Fiero had such a chance to be a great car but it was made as cheaply as possible. Dam the penny pitchers at Pontiac.
Ronald Finger is just about done restoring his Fiero that was sitting outside for many years.
Really nice and fun show to watch. :)
@@HepauDK OMG it's such a fun journey! I can't wait until the end episode! !!
@@wahh3074 so sad!
Always loved these MR2s. Great to see this one get sorted. Good on you!
Another journey I am happy to be a part of!
