- This is my second triploid hybrid experiment. It is a crossing between Physical Graffiti and Palora in hoping to get tripolid hybrids with yellow fruit skin and red flesh. To my surprise, even though a lot of seeds seemed already sprouted in the fruit, very few of them actually germinated.
Great video. I’m still relatively new to dragon fruit growing and
I learn a lot from your videos. I appreciate how thorough you are and how u post progress updates. May these seedlings become successful grafts! 🤞
Love your channel. Wish that you create an amazing hybrid. ❤
Another great experiment. I germinated some red flesh dragon fruit a week ago, it took about 5 days; most of the seeds did not float, they looked viable. 5 days inside the house, it was done in a south facing room with indirect light. Thanks for your video.
Nice experiment.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Seed buoyancy is affected by density, with fully developed seeds sinking and underdeveloped or damaged seeds floating. Air pockets in non-viable seeds and outer coatings that trap air can also cause seeds to float.
Thank you for your comment.
Actually, for these triploid seeds, even the sinking seeds had very low germination rate, about 3%, which is much lower than those of the normal dragon fruit seeds, so it seems all those seeds, even the sinking ones, are deficient in some way. But it is odd that so many of them already started to germinate inside the fruit. If I knew this be the case, I would save some of the germinated seeds and put them in some wet towel to see what they would develop into.
One question, which type of graft grow fastest?
One guy on fb told me that whole stem grafts (with a couple of spikes) get new
growths early (in about 2 week). While single node (V-graft) takes about 3 months to start growing.
Is this true?
I have never tried V-graft, so I don't know how fast it can grow, but just for stem grafting, sometimes it goes fast and sometimes it goes slow. It all depends on the timing, during winter time, it will go quite slow, warmer weather, it will go faster. And it also depends on the quality of the scion and the root stock, how healthy they are. I have one stem graft that took almost 5 months to start to show growth.
@@xiaoli2142 thank you so much, and what's the fastest growth you've seen from all of your grafts?
@@MineCraft-nz9pg I think the earliest clear growth I saw is around 10 days. That was a trellis top grafting around May. Here is the video on that graft: ruclips.net/video/JAd4zlK371M/видео.html
