You can almost hear the stages of grief imitated in music in this piece:
    0:04: Shock/Denial
    0:49: Pain/Guilt
    1:50: Anger/Bargaining
    5:20: Depression/Reflection/Loneliness
    6:11: The Upward Turn

It helps to lift 10 lb weights fairly often. The Pathetique is a walk in the park compared to the Appassionata, especially the bass, m.s. parts. Try the adagio to begin with on both sonatas.

    • @dennisjardine4089

You don't need all that strength. This is being played way faster than originally intended by Beethoven.

No, a 'piano sonata' usually has three movements, typically a fast 1st mvt in sonata-form, a slow 2nd and fast 3rd mvt.
'Sonata-form' has exposition, development and recapitulation sections.
For example, mvt. 2 is in a different key, tempo and has completely unrelated themes to mvt. 1. Hope this helps!

Thomas Li it's on my list of songs to learn :) right now I'm focusing on a lot of Mozart's pieces. I just finished learning "Sonata in F Major". Once I get to my list of Beethoven's pieces I wanna learn, that'll be the first thing. I only know how to play Für Elise and Moonlight Sonata, so 2 of the most cliche Beethoven pieces haha

Pathetique is translated as pathetic in English. It means sad and painful in this song. Not necessarily meaning very poor. Beethoven composed this piece when his girlfriend dumped him after helping him in his music performances together when he became deaf. He was agonized and sorrowful as an obvious result for a while. First movement emphasizes shock, second movement indicates grief and third movement express his emotional healing.

Phenomenal. While I understand the conventions surrounding classical performances comprised of multiple movements, I think--had I been in attendance--that I would have found it impossible to remain seated after that final cadence.
