Charging ports take a lot of abuse, no matter how careful we are. If the pins are shorted whilst plugging in or disconnecting the charger, this can create a short circuit internal on the device. If your lucky, you may get away with it. In this example it’s clear the IC responsible for charging took the short circuit and has now failed. Also, this “knock on” effect may have effected some supporting components like, filters, resistors and capacitors. As shown here, the Highly Experienced Tech knows this and without circuit diagrams and the likes, pinpointed the issue very quickly. The device in this example will be repaired to its former glory without much hassle and wasted time. Good advice to the customer would be to discard the existing charger lead in case of defected plug causing this issue in the first place. As always a BIG 👍 up from me. I look forward to the next video.

Did getting another Ic chip fix this? I have the same issue same model and I do have experience in soldering. Just that I'm doing this for a friend and I don't want to make them lose money because of me. Like taking my time to order the ship and going through the hassle to then just not being able to fix it.

Do you mean that even though the tablet draws current( when charging) battery remains flat( not charged)?And as a result the tablet can not be turned on? In other words the current is drawn only by surrounding parts in charging circuit?
The charging IC is possibly shorted and sending the amps to ground. That is why it's getting very hot. The Amp reading didn't change after disconnecting the battery, which confirms a problem with the charging IC.
Is it possible to find the pmic in North America? All the places I’m finding the ic are in China with 30+ days wait :/

Well, it could be another problem related to a shorted capacitor, so the IC keeps turning ON and OFF , when the current is more than it should be the IC turns OFF and back ON to try again and so on. So, you should check for any shorted cap ( or any other bad component even without schematics, easy to find around ) before assuming that the IC is the problem.
