@@houstonhelicoptertours1006 yeah for that reason i really wish they had held off on it until after T2 coz then we may have got a James Cameron production of Alien 3 though it would most likely have been a completely different film and story as he has openly criticised David Fincher for killing off Hicks and Noot! despite all this i still really like the film - its is a good overarching story and some rich characters especially the doctor played by Charles Dance. the CGI does ruin the shots but if you can see past those brief moments its still a pretty solid film. in contrast the CGI was much better in Resurrection but it was overall not as good a film Alien 3 (imo). 2 centuries after the events of 3 was a little over the top.....in that universe they would have advanced a lot more in 200 yrs than we see in the film and the plot of Ripley being cloned to removed the alien didnt make sense.....so many other flops but again like Alien 3 its still enjoyable and entertaining to watch...........but alas nothing compares to the masterpieces that are ALIEN + ALIENS by 2 of the best film makers in the business.......although both Cameron and Scott have lost the plot with their latest ventures (covenant was not terrible but no good either) and as for............ Alien : Horror/Sci-fi/Thriller
    Aliens : Action/Sci-fi/Thriller
    Alien 3 : Drama/Sci-fi/Thriller
I love how unique all three films in this trilogy are!!!! They all complement eachother perfectly & it's always been my favorite movie Trilogy!!!!! IDC what anyone says or dislikes about this film!!!!!! Honestly this film turned out way better than all these ppl in this documentary that are complaining about it & they're the ones who made the damn film!!!! Give yourselves some damn credit because you still made a classic regardless if the first two films were better , u still made a very good film in such a short period of time & I think if they gave them more time , it would have actually turned out even worse !!!! Rushed movies always turn out good for the most part!!!! Aliens was a rushed film , T2 was a rushed film & those are considered some of the best sequels of all time & plus you made this movie without a script while in production which is pretty much how the original Alien film was made considering they had to keep rewriting it during production just like in this film!!!! This is actually my favorite David Fincher movie & he still denies even being a part of it lolz !!!!! The other concepts & ideas they had in mind to write this film were just rediculous !!!! I can't believe they originally wanted to make a wooden planet in outerspace full of monks , that's just stupid & so unrealistic & it's a far worse idea than just making a rehash of the first two films in my eyes , thank God it costed far too much money & time consuming to build a set like that!!!!! I fuckin love this film , Alien 3 is the most underrated third instalment in a film franchise ever!!!!! It's also the film that I actually enjoy watching the most out of the entire trilogy & I've been watching this trilogy since I was a kid in the early 90's!!!!! I love how dark this movie turned out compared to the others!!!! It didn't deserve a happy beginning or a happy ending!!!! After all the Xenomorph is supposed to be the most terrifying thing in the entire universe & the perfect killing machine so it only made sense to make it begin & end dark & depressing & it made it unique compared to the first two films that do the complete opposite with the happy endings!!!!!!! This movie also has some of the best ever shots of the Xenomorph , the best most unique kill scenes , the most blood & gore of all the films in the entire franchise & the most graphic realistic in the entire franchise!!!!!

Even with the efforts from the great FX team unfortunetely the jaguar alien wasn't realistic enough. Anyone could see it was a puppet and the illusion of the alien as a realistic monster was lost. It wasn't scary. All scenes with the man in the alien costume scenes are flawless. They should have sticked to rubbersuits.

That’s why they did the rotoscoped puppet. @@Lokazana not exactly, the problem was the studio from the very beginning not delaying the release date they knew wasn't going to allow the crew to deliver the project completed on time. They just didn't trust David Fincher because he was a first time director but he knew what he was doing and what he wanted to achieve, his current filmography shows you that Fincher is a master of realistic visual effects and visual style. The rotoscope puppet allowed them to create scenes where you see the alien in full body movement and it moved naturally. If Fincher have had full control of the movie you would have seen better results. They only needed a few more weeks for colour correction and compositing.

So, in 1989, they committed to doing the creature effects with miniature puppets and a guy in a costume. The puppets sometimes look good, but most of the time look pretty bad. Late in production, in 1992, they retouched them and added shadows with CGI, making them look even worse...

This movie got a lot of hate, some warranted but the director's cut makes this an underappreciated addition to the Alien franchise. I bet at this point a single talented artist/animator could digitally edit the alien effects in the film and make it so much better.

Although visually impressive for the time, I think it lost about a third of its fans in the first 10 minutes when we discover that Bishop, Hicks AND Newt are all dead, only to be topped off by killing Ripley too in the end.

What if you used blue rods for the puppeting? Wouldn't that be easier to remove?
I suppose you would have to avoid getting it in front of the model though.

Saw this in theaters and was disappointed that there was only one alien and the fx looked hoaky...but as i came to grips with that i loved this movie more and more. I now appreciate this movie so much and feel so lucky fincher got to do a beautifully shot and directed alien slasher film. Weaver had an operatic take to a sad ending for her character.

T2 was released two years earlier and the effects were some of the best ever seen, and still hold up in 2021. Aliens 3's effects were composited horribly... like I'm surprised they released the movie that way. No wonder David Fincher disavows this movie.

    • @Mattjccook
      @Mattjccook 2 года назад

but the budget was 100 million compared to the 50 milion alien 3 got. also they wouldn't trust fincher. the directors cut of this film is almost flawless. I wish they would re-release this film with some cgi upgrades. just to blend the alien a bit more etc. the narrative of the film is terrifying.

The perfect version they could make & redo of this film is in 4K CGI for the Alien running scenes & add it into the Assembly Cut Version but with the Theatrical version ending!!!!! & Change the damn Ox to a fuckin Cougar because that's what it's supposed to be anyways!!!!! Idk why they didn't just use a live pet Cougar originally for this film if that's what the Xenomorph concept for this film is originally based on??? I don't see a Ox or even a dog stalking it's victims & then chasing them when they run away & eating them like the Alien actually does in this film!!!!! That's also what a cougar does in real life , it stalks it's prey & if you turn your back on it & run , it's chases & pounces on u!!!!!!

I REALLY wish we could get a corrected FX version of the Assembly cut...even if it means some CGI work. The poor compositing creature effects were probably the biggest let down for me coming from the previous 2 films.
(No...the story turn and darker tone didnt bother me in the least)

Alien: The horror of Gigers nightmare brainchild
Aliens: Aint it scary enough? Just imagine hundreds of them lurking in every dark corner
Alien3: Alright. Now with music that is badass and scary at the same time! ( 9:18 ) Eliot Goldenthal - Lento
    Alien4:
    -This script looks uninspiring!
-Sir, throw in some good actors and good effects and it would mabe distract the plebs!
    Alien vs predator:
-The game was good so they might like our movie
    -Or at least watch it!
    Avp2:
    -Or not...
    Prometheus:
-How do u like our movie?
    -Where is the Alien?
-The What?! --confused bcose noone mentioned him they have to make an alien movie --
    Covenant:
-Alright u idiots, there is your damn Alien in a horror scifi -- shows an alien gets dropped out of the ship in the last 15 minutes of the movie --
-In a What? -- confused bcose noone mentioned him he watched a horror movie --
Conclusion: First 3 movie is the buildup. The horror scifi base with a freightening creature. It gets expanded to action horror scifi with hundreds of even more freightening aliens. 3rd movie kick in with freightening music. With the 4th movie music gets softer. In avp its loses scifi elements. Avp 2 losing horror elements. in prometheus, entirely skipping on the creature. Covenant used the creature at the end as a mascot for their drama movie

I think Alien 3 is an amazing film and so beautifully done. Sure, some wonky old FX, but visually and storywise, its terrific. Do npt understand the hate. That it is so good even with all the production hell it endured speaks volumes.

  • @stevenmitchell2996

I think the Alien puppet idea was a good idea as apposed to some dude in a suit. Alien 3 isn't the best Alien film in the franchise and personally I think Alien is still the best one followed by Aliens but Alien 3 isn't the worst. I think Alien: Resurrection was worser than Alien 3 so compared to Resurrection I think Alien 3 is a classic.

If they could ever go back amd fix that alien look problem the film would look way better IMO

DJI Ronin 4D with a Tilta Hydra / Float Arm & DJI Master wheels.
