My biggest fear with older games is how terribly the controls can age so It's nice to hear your stance on it, especially for the console release. I'm a fan of collecting achievements but only on console due to people easily accessing them with programs on pc! I think if I do snag this one, it'll be on the PS4 (possibly during a sale 👀). Great vid, will keep an eye on the stream to see if it's really something I want to play in the future!💪
Before you buy: The pause button, which you use frequently, is the option button on the ps4. It feels klunky and hurts my thumb after pressing it a ton. It would've been so much better for the pause button to be mapped to the giant TouchPad. Far as I can tell you can't rearrange the buttons.
A young adventurer fresh out of Candlekeep sees a wolf! Wolf attacks! Rolls a nat 20, critical hit! Wolf deals 12 damage to our hero, our hero dies! Player learns to quick save after losing to the first enemy they see.
Thank you so much for posting this... 😊👍 I had no idea that they’d released Baldur’s Gate for consoles! I first played it on PC, way back when it came out, and it remains - to this day - my favourite PC game of all time. The wonderful setting, the background story, the stirring intro music, the immersive ambient sounds, the extensive conversational interaction between your party members, the huge variety of weapons, armour and other loot, the critical inventory management system... everything is just sublime. And it’s quite extraordinary how an isometric view, relatively low resolution, adventure RPG can create so much genuine tension and suspense as you explore the vast map and uncover fiendish traps, stealthy or powerful enemies, and have to fight for survival in cliffhanger battles that can go right down to the wire, even if you emerge victorious... This remains a seminal game in every respect, and so many games that followed it owe so much to the extraordinary depth, painstaking care and imagination that went into the development of it. In many ways, it has never been bettered, and I have such a fondness for it that I return to it every so often, simply to immerse myself once again in a beloved gaming experience that I have such a huge nostalgic affection for... I’m absolutely delighted that it has come out on the PS4 - thank you for bringing that to my attention - as I shall now be able to play it once again, but from the comfort of my lounge recliner, on our 60” widescreen TV, instead of having to hunch over my keyboard and mouse, in front of my PC monitor, to the detriment of my poor ailing lower back (a byproduct of so many hard fought encounters on the adventure trail, and a consequence of carrying far too much heavy loot to the nearest town where it could be sold for a handsome return... 😉) I can already imagine that comfortingly familiar voice echoing off the thick stone walls of our lounge, as he issues his mild but oft repeated rebuke: “You must gather your party before venturing forth...” 😂
The price may seem like a lot... but if you're a fan of games like Pillars, Tyranny, Pathfinder, Divinity, etc, this game is literally so insanely long its like double any of those games in length, plus you get all the DLCs and then you get the sequel, this is like 250 hours of drifting away into another world and living out an entire life from birth to adult to divine
To be fair, these are ports of the far more recent Enhanced Editions, whose importance is doubled with regards to the first game as they converted all its AD&D based content over to an upgraded version of Shadows of Amn’s AD&D + 3rd Edition hybrid system... and even if they were simply console ports of Black Isle’s and Bioware’s originals, they still probably needed a fair amount of reworking to work on all three consoles, which again justifies the price.
BG taught me to save constantly, very useful for writing or drawing. It's almost like OCD. Very bad this version doesn't have it. And you don't get permanent deaths on lower difficulties, so I never worry too much about it.
you definitely sensitized me me to the problems of console gamers today.... Baldurs Gate without easy quicksave would have been hell during my first playthrough :-D
Thank you for this. I have been holding off mainly bc of the price which has finally come down. I played this for PC way back when and have forgotten at lot! Like you, I loot everything & forgot what a PIA it is to access the thieving option. Permadeath is a return to the bad old days rather than a plus. Call me crazy but I don’t relish spending so much time just saving my damned game! More than anything else the save issue is a big deterrent. OTOH, I am having issues with my eyesight. It’s awesome that the font can be adjusted so that I don’t have to stand 2 inches from my display if I really want to read the script. You have given me a lot of food for thought.
If you can pick this up for a good price it will definitely be worth it, I'm guessing there have probably been a few patches since I played it as well, so it's probably a lot more solid also!!
I found this vid first thing when I woke this morning. Legit thought I was listening to a voice over at first. (It is but you get my gist right? I'm sleepy still) Voice fits the face now, but you had me hoodwinked!
@@porrabr I found it on the PlayStation Store, I think people are referring to the bundle that's currently going for 40/50 quid or so. Personally i'm hoping it's part of this Black Friday Sale at some point.
I just discovered earlier that they did a fantastic job with BG3 with how it handles on controller and that it actually works real well. So now, the kind of player I am, will get the enhanced edition for 1 and 2 but as a physical copy which will cost me a bit more. I did enjoy the BG: Dark Alliance games back on PS2 too, so need to get those as well. And from what I watched in this review, I will have a good time with these games. Really excited for this journey!
Damn though, if Baldur's Gate could get a resurgence like this on a console port, it'd be cool to see Blizzard put out a Diablo I/Diablo II double pack on the X-Box One or the PS4. I'd buy that.
To think that Bioware attempted to port the game to original Playstation back in 1999, which eventually didn't happen. There's some footage of gameplay of that unfinished game somewhere around here. A then its 20 years on and we finally got it. On consoles. Anyway, what a game, a Golden Classic.
I got Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 for 20€ so I'm quite happy. I have the second on PC , since 2004 and I never passed the second act. I never have time to play on computer
I am like you a veteran from 1998 and I bought it for my iPad and I couldn't stand it. Didn't even get out of Candlekeep before I stoped. I need a mouse and keyboard to play this.
did you know, you can charm any npc ? they tell you they writing a novel about drizzt or convince nobles to lock there valuable item in a Inn and afterwards loot the treasure.
Personally, playing BG 1 on Normal (NOT Core Rules) should provide enough challenge. By the time I got to BG 2, I switched it up to Core Rules to keep it interesting and challenging because your party is tougher and more robust at that point. BTW- I agree that totally re-equipping a recently raised character is an utter pain in the ass. So if you’ve lost 2 or 3 people in just one encounter; you may be better off simply reloading and fighting it out again.
BG2 is definitely more difficult... I could solo BG1 with a fighter/mage/thief in a few hours whereas BG2 you run into very advanced enemies that are going to force multiple reloads even if you know what you are doing (Vampires, Mind Flayers, Dragons, Lichs, high level mage cheese). FYI characters in BG2 also have very important questlines moreso than BG1 that unlock a lot of extra content in the game. If you lose anyone you are probably missing out on content.
Great review, although I do have one complaint. I did not see the greatest NPC ever in your party! Feel the burning stare of my hamster, and change your ways!
I apologise for this transgression! I assure you Minsc, you were my number 1 choice for the front line, and dealt the finishing blow to Sarevok himself!
Totally agree with you on thievery skil! It's the first thing I do when playing Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale - I map thievery skill under "X" on my keyboard. Speeds up things tremendously :). I will surely buy this on my PS4, but I intend to wait for it to cheapen a little. Asking full price for a game which sells dirt cheap on PC every steam sale is too much for me.
Edit: for anyone interested, I wrote up a walkthrough for Legacy of Bhaal difficulty solo Dragon Disciple (or Sorcerer) and posted it in a comment below. Can be done in under two hours. Love BG. When the special edition came out with Legacy of Bhaal difficulty mode, I made it a goal to solo the game with no deaths in under two hours. Took some tweaking and attempts but eventually managed to do it with a sorcerer. If you know where everything in this game is and when you need what spells, and where all the traps are, it’s actually not that hard. But it takes a lot of playing to learn all that stuff and remember it. One of the best games of all time for sure. Good review mate.
HazVsRPG This was a few years ago so I’m hazy on the details. Don’t have my PC anymore. Just downloading it for my iPhone. Will go through it and write up a little walkthrough for you and anyone interested.
DP: summon monsters in main room. Use haste on all. Enter room near Sarevok. After dialogue, place monsters between Belt and ‘Noblemen’. Use scroll of teleport field on Doppelgänger nearest middle of room. Use scroll of GM in middle of room. Scrolls of chaos until all DGs are affected. Start focusing on DGs nearest to Belt with monsters and MM. Take them out one by one. Use GM, Chaos, monsters as needed. [Level 5 take shield and mirror img.] Talk to Belt Thieves guild: _Grab tome of dex, ident, use._ Enter maze Maze: Invis and rest. Cast shield. Go through maze, ignore enemies. Once past the doom guards, use MGoI scroll. Exit maze to Undercity UC: Enter Temple of Bhaal ToB: Approach the altar cautiously from the east *but not too close to the pillars or you will spawn a Battle Horror!* If you set off a trap just retreat, wait for spells to end. Once you get close enough, the mage Semaj will fire off a contingency spell at you. Use potion of magic blocking after it hits you. He should be visible now but still not hostile. Fire a bullet at him to turn him hostile. Retreat. If Tazok is after you (you can hear his footsteps if music is off) spawn monsters near door and kill with frost. Approach the altar again but not as close as before. Use a dispel magic scroll on the altar. Then a GM scroll. Then chaos scroll. Use as many as needed to get Antonio confused (and hopefully Semaj too). Retreat and hope that some kill each other. This part is unpredictable. If you get discovered, use invis potion. Spawn monsters. Paralyze. Once Antonio is dead, draw out Semaj if he is alive. Use potions of magic blocking and MGoI scroll to use up his spells. Cast Shield to waste his MMs. When he runs out of spells he will try to melee you. Monsters and frost. Draw out Tazok if he is alive. Again, monsters and frost. Finally, spawn monsters, dialogue with Sarevok, retreat, hit him from a distance with GM. Paralyze. Haste monsters. Attack with whatever you’ve got. That should do it!
HazVsRPG Do it! Definitely take a few runs at it to get the hang of it because I guarantee you won’t get it first try without doing reloads. But I just did it today after not playing for a few years and with only a few reloads because I forgot some stuff.
My biggest complaint is not having the damn pause button as the middle pad thingy rather than that tiny options button which is kinda annoying. Being able to change controls would be nice.
Thanks for the video. I’ve never played a baulders gate game before and both 1 and 2 are on sale right now for PlayStation. I wanted to give them a try but I was very worried the controls would be horrible. Glad they managed to port them to controller well!
I thought this was dark alliance when I picked it up, and was disappointed when it wasn't, have the original DA's on original Xbox, love those games, but not keen on this. Will fire up my original Xbox and load original DA's.
Still a bit of a head-scratcher that there remains no remaster/remake of the unique PS2 version Baldur's Gate . . . Console owners both past & present tend to find themselves hankering for old favorites when nostalgia strikes and it just seems like a no-brainer to bring that version back into the light of 60fps HD. Still, great video. Thanks!
Here is a fun fact for you balders gate 1 was actually in development for the PS1 but never got released but it can be found online now it was going to be on 3 discs
Maaan hopefully this serves as a good example and template of how to port some of these earlier (or even some recent!) PC games that expected a mouse and keyboard. It doesn't seem perfect, but a lot of these similar conversions have been nightmares to control with a controller and look at with any modern resolution. Excellent review per usual. I am more familiar with Icewind Dale, but now I might have to get into Baldur's Gate.
*very* cool to hear that man, I say give it a shot, if you dont want to pick it up for console, defintely consider it for a PC playthrough its a damn treat! But, definitely go for the HD enhanced version, the original is definitely aged!!
I played baldurs gate 3 last year and naturally have wanted to try these older games on console ... This review was well done 👍 will definitely try these in future
thanks for an informative vid. BG2 was my fave game ever, used to play constantly, and was completely unaware of the PS4 reworking. funny to see on other sites all the whining as apparently a LOT of people confused this with the "BG Dark Alliance" PS2 game.
Hah!! I did enjoy those games also, some really great couch co-op right there!! It's also out on the switch, and xbox so I'm glad more people are getting to experience this great series of games!!!
I got it on baldur's gate on sale for pc 3months ago but never had time to play it cuz I'm not home half the week. So I just bought it on switch so I can get to play it any where and it's great I would say its the best console to get it on its so convent
Oh when you say your charaters permanently die, they only personally die if the die from being exploded or if you dont revive them in time. You may of said that in your playthrough so my bad if you did
I’ve been watching a lot of tips/tricks/beginner guide videos and web pages and I’m glad for it all. Just downloaded the game off the PS4 store a few days ago after hyping up for Baldurs gate 3 and just finding out a few days ago also that it’s available for PS4.
I loved Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 for the ps2. It would probably be laughed off as a Diablo clone in this day and age, but I enjoyed the hell out of it back in the day.
Oh let me know what you think! I know there are a few people that picked it up and still were not convinced regarding the controls and prefer keyboard and mouse!
No not perma death. But if a character dies you need to take all their stuff and then you have to revive them, then you need to give them all the stuff again and it takes pretty long on PS4
Well narrated and well said. We would love to have you on our site and podcast sometime. I am a huge BG fan from the late 90’s on. I feared how well they could port the real time combat and pathfinding to a controller
I think there's many excellent things about the PS4 version of this game, but it can crash often, and sometimes all your saves and character builds become corrupted or disappear. That can be very frustrating.
Damn that is horrible!! I wonder if I got lucky?! I streamed everything and I don't think the game crashed even one time the whole 100+ hours I streamed it live!!
Could care less about trophy's never have never will (insert foamy rant on achievements here). However I will be picking it up as I want every amazing game on PS4 all 200 + games eventually so once you said the port is amazing it was a must have for me.
Thank you for this review, I haven't gamed since the old days but I'm coming out of retirement for this. (If you're good enough you can take out Drizzt and gain Twinkle and Icingdeath;)
Thanks for the video. I'm a big fan of every Infinity Enging games. Been finished them all over again and again and still playing for today. The original BG on pc was life changer for my gamer life.I love it very much. Now Pillars of eternity is the only cure for me after the bad news BG3 changing to turn-base.
Man you nailed it in regards to the thievery in the console games. I’m into the first expansion pack right now and it’s never any better. I’m used to it, but damn is it cumbersome. I don’t agree with the quicksave argument though. Pressing the touch pad, going to save, and getting back out only takes about 3-4 seconds. I’ve gotten to where it’s automatic. Touch pad, hit down 3x, click save, back at it. No loading time at all, too. Totally different story if you are renaming save files etc though I suppose. Ultimately the issue is mapping is that there is *one* button in the game that’s not used on PS4, D pad left, and it would have been nice to be able to map something to it. Thievery, for instance ;)
actually, unless they blow up, you can revive them at a church. I don't know if this is still true in the harder difficulties, but it is true for the core rules and below.
I should have clarified, youre 100% right. I was meaning the harder difficulties, where quite often even a kobold with a bow will chunk your mainline fighter who has -6AC in 2 seconds!!
I played this on it's release date. I noticed on character builds you can't roll below 70 or above 89 so if want to build a really buff character you with 90+ points you can't. Still don't see a way you can delete pregen characters that didn't work out. One thing I like is you can reorder you party to put melee fighters in the front and mages in the back. My only question is what order should you play the expansions that come with the PS4 version. I agree about dying in this game is very easy. Different than Pillars of Eternity when you can get back up if your part wins the battle. No endurance just life. Makes having a cleric in party essential.
I didn't see a roll below 70 but you definitely can roll well above 90! It took me about an hour but I rolled quite a few 90+ ended up settling on a 92 with a strength 18/95. Highest I got was a 95. Tales of the sword Coast is more or less built into the main game, so you can tackle that content at your leisure, seige of drago spear will kick off automatically at the end of Baldurs Gate, so that leaves the black pits which is a standalone side adventure! I haven't done that yet!
@@stevelenores5637 it also depends on what race/class combo you choose. For instance if you choose a halforc fighter you'll regularly roll high scores, but if you take a dwarven theif you'll roll worse. I forget the reasoning I just remember that being a thing.
I really want to get this on my PS4 in the near future.Just recently got Elden Ring, so gonna have my hands full for awhile...I did enjoy video though.
I got the Icewind Dale/Planescape Torment Xbox One pack for $30 just before Xmas. I love it. I still have my original PC cd-roms of both games so this has been awesome. I too was leary of the controls & how it would translate to a controller, but it's been fine. Icewind Dale is more combat-centric in comparison to the BG series, for example, so if one prefers more action, it might tick that box. Loving it!
"Death is permanent". Well yes. Until you resurect them for 100 gp/Level. Like you I got the original game with the six CD:s and the nice, thick booklet. Got the Enhanced on the PC and of course bought it ( BG1 & BG2) now on PS4. I was thinking about buing the Planescape/Icewind Dale instead but BG is BG.
I should have been more specific. On core or higher permadeath by being crit, or by magic etc. Awesome to hear you grabbed them all, you going to get Neverwinter Nights?!!!
@@HazVsRPG . Hm. Maybe. Neverwinter Nights was one of my absolute favorite games that I have played the most (almost but not as much as Diablo 2 and especially Heroes of Might & Magic 4 though). I think that a problem with Neverwinter Nights really is the graphics. It was blocky and dated even for that time. They really need to improve the graphics. And since I, like you do every single side quest, Neverwinter Nights becomes very easy after a while.
Already completed the BG1 in the PS4 and today i will start the BG2. I didn't got the other bundle because i don't like the "Planeescape", i hate RPGs that i can't create my own character. I'm wainting for the Neverwinter Nights that will release late this year.
As a follow-up, I bought it on Xbox because there was a sale, and it's been fantastic. The controls are amazing, especially the "direct control". A follower called Rasaad moves faster than the rest, but in direct control he keeps in position with everyone else. Saving and loading are quick too. All in all its definitely money well spent.
You can yes, at higher difficulties the chances of being chunked instead of killed is really high, that's what I was referring to, but I didn't make that clear!
I'm strongly tempted to get the Baldur's Gate collection for Xbox One, I tried to play the first game on PC almost twenty years ago but I sadly found that I had two disc three's and no disc four in the case. When I went to return it and ask for a replacement I was told that they were out of stock. I've yearned to play the game ever since and with them being out on the Xbox One then the temptation is strong. I'm not sure if they've aged well but I would love to get the collection as soon as I can afford to.
They will very much entertain you! Such great games! But perhaps wait for a sale? I'm sure the first big price drop will happen in a few weeks maybe a months time!
This game must not have done well on console as I cannot find any other console review besides this one. Yours is a great review but I usually play on Xbox or PC over the PS4. Still, it looks serviceable from your video, so I might still get the Xbox version to play from it my couch.
I've responded to this a few times here haha! In my infinite stupidity, I failed to mention in the vid that I was referring to the fact that on higher difficulties the chances of getting chunked over just dying is so high even from wolves or kobolds. There's no coming back from being chunked. Too excited in the vid and I deserve every person who is correcting me for it heh!
@@PABQ779 kobold commandos be one tapping you front line fighters even with -6AC!! It's like you are wearing a suit of leather instead of full plate +2!!
I had this confused with Dark Alliance which I played the hell out of back in the day. Never tried these 2, so I may have to give them a chance after hearing everyone rave about them.
"You must gather your party before.... oh ok everyones here." simply traveling through a city or through tight places were so much more an ordeal back then. one of my old favorite things to do was playing "cant catch me" when people try to talk to me. now i can run these bastard around almost indefinetly.
yea he was a bastard. hard to stay away from. the only ones who i could really make a long run out of were those like Karen, those yellow robed instructors from Candlekeep who asked you what happened when you come out of whatever tiny supply building youre attacked by bounty hunters in. id try to do laps around. the library with them
@@HazVsRPG The qoute that always stuck with me was "My O'tels are clean as an elven arse". and "Hey ya, its me Imoen". When i played before she'd say only that. was my game broke? She'd have a qoute for being tired i remember. i remember it well cause it stood out cause it was kind less common so it hit the ear whenever she finally said something that wasnt "hey ya!" i ended up naming my daughter Imoen, but she goes by her middle name "Dacey". it sounds like daisy. My mind was blown one time cause she was playing gamecube mario kart and she pointed out the only line she has is "hi im daisy". its really dont mean nothing its just a coincidence. it blew my mind it worked out that way though
BG1 its not that bad... BG2 when half the party has speed boots and the other half doesn't its always a shit show of "you must gather your party before..."
I want it so bad i played the old school on pc all of them however the price is insane they are brain dead if they think im gunna pay that much for an old game even if its one of my all time favorites
I've got all these RPG CLASSIC Enhanced Edition games on Xbox One. And I will concur on them being overpriced IF you download em from the online store(as of the time of this comment they're currently $50! Um, no). I have got mine from Amazon at various times & have never paid more than $20. I played all of these back in the day on pc(this phone I am typing this on is more powerful than the pc I played these games on!), bought the EE versions on Steam, and now on XB1. LOOOOVE them!
My god ! 😂😂 I swear this is exactly my situation. I played this game over and over, back when the case weighted about the same as a dictionary. Please ! Next update we need a quick save option. Other then that I started a shadow of amn campaign. Having a blast ! 🏰💥💀
Super cool. Still have my original copies. Could never beat them though as kid. Always ended up under powerd somewhere along the way. I wish to buy it again but cant decided between Ps4 or Switch. Any graphical difference between the two? Seeing how old it is I imagine not.
Graphically I don't think there is anything different between switch or ps4, I would imagine some ui stuff would be tough on the switch? But I'm not sure because I haven't seen it myself let me know if you end up going with the switch!!
Im aware :D I should have clarified, I was talking about higher difficulties, and for the most part, characters will get chunked, instantly, more than 'die' in which case they are gone.
@@williamshafer1996 not at all! No apologies required, in fact it's my blunder, you join a handful of people who have pointed it out, I need to be more careful when I say things!!
I've never played Baldur's Gate, but always was interested in it, as a fan of the first Dragon Age, KotOR and Jade Empire. Also, I don't play on my laptop. So I was very interested in this console release (especially considering BG3 is on the horizon), but wanted to know how did they adapt the controls. So thank you very much for this video, it was very informative. Now I can rest easy and buy the game as soon as I have the money. Can't wait to finally play it for the first time.
I hope I'm not the only one but I got this game expecting it to be like the baldurs gate for the ps2 and it's not that it's a bad game but it's not what I was expecting
Haha oops!! Quite a few people that have come through to the stream have said the same thing so you are not alone! But yeah these are the original games from which the ps2 dark alliance games spawned from 😂
I'm only now considering purchasing the game has there been any update to the things you brought up as concerns here? I played The Originals when I was way younger I don't think I'm going to remember the game too well personally but I would hope that some of these quality-of-life things could have been put in in the last couple years
I never bothered with these on console because I figured the controls would suck ass but the main reason is I feel I'd have sit closer to the TV to see everything so I'd rather just play on PC.
Legacy of Bhaal mode only!!!! ♥️
Is it possible to speed up the game on ps4?
In the original game there was a button to increase speed. Is it possible to do that on ps4 ?
They had to incorporate a keyboard and mouse adapter
I just snagged this duo of classics on PS4 for $20.. I can't imagine $20 buying so much awesome!
Have they patched the thieving?
Before you buy: The pause button, which you use frequently, is the option button on the ps4. It feels klunky and hurts my thumb after pressing it a ton. It would've been so much better for the pause button to be mapped to the giant TouchPad. Far as I can tell you can't rearrange the buttons.
A young adventurer fresh out of Candlekeep sees a wolf! Wolf attacks! Rolls a nat 20, critical hit! Wolf deals 12 damage to our hero, our hero dies! Player learns to quick save after losing to the first enemy they see.
Yup! That actually happened!!
I can already imagine that comfortingly familiar voice echoing off the thick stone walls of our lounge, as he issues his mild but oft repeated rebuke: “You must gather your party before venturing forth...” 😂
I'm so glad you discovered this!!! And I might say, I loved reading every word of this comment!!! A true adventurer!!
Thanks again... And, it takes one to know one! 🖖😊
My only issue with this version is its price. Yeah, it's an amazing game...but it's also an old game and it should be way cheaper.
Cant argue with you on that one, I agree - its actually quite funny, the game on steam right now is very expensive also. Quite insane really!!
@@HazVsRPG Oh well :| I'll wait for a price drop.

Masterpieces go up in value with age and Baulder's Gate is a masterpiece.

You can save, fairly quickly once you get the button combos down, but a nice 1 tap quicksave would be helpful!!
Mate, this is fantastic. Love to see the Aussie love in the Baldurs Gate space. Astonishing that most of the devs never worked on a game before it.
How dare you sir!
I'm from New Zealand!
Now thats cleared up, I agree totally hahaha!!
you definitely sensitized me me to the problems of console gamers today.... Baldurs Gate without easy quicksave would have been hell during my first playthrough :-D
It ’s me. I bought it. Baldur's Gate ps4 is very expensive in China, but this is my youth. I hope there will be a fallout 1 + 2 on ps4.
You look like a battle hardened, tough as nails warrior, but your voice is very gentle. Oddly cool.
Haha! Thanks so much! Quite a few people have said that live on my stream, It just sounds weird to me!
He does. He kinda reminds me of Jon Moxley. Just looking at him, he looks like some kind of Viking raider.
I found this vid first thing when I woke this morning.
Legit thought I was listening to a voice over at first. (It is but you get my gist right? I'm sleepy still)
Voice fits the face now, but you had me hoodwinked!
Is the game on psn already for ps4 ?
I can't find it anywhere
DA remakes aren’t worth it, though.
Nice one Haz! This will be my first play through of the series and i'm super hyped.
Awww man!! I'm glad to see the love for this game growing, I really hope you enjoy it!!
Imagine if we got Diablo I and 2 ported onto consoles like this.....
We did, I bought them and loved them hah!
@@HazVsRPG Wait when?? Where can I get them??
@@Jesus-xb1hm diablo 1 was ported to PlayStation 1 back in the day! I can't remember if 2 came after that?....... Need to check!
Damn though, if Baldur's Gate could get a resurgence like this on a console port, it'd be cool to see Blizzard put out a Diablo I/Diablo II double pack on the X-Box One or the PS4. I'd buy that.
D2 remaster got announced this week haha
To think that Bioware attempted to port the game to original Playstation back in 1999, which eventually didn't happen. There's some footage of gameplay of that unfinished game somewhere around here.
A then its 20 years on and we finally got it. On consoles.
Anyway, what a game, a Golden Classic.
I have a ps1 iso of this version, but it is very bugged since its a beta.
Desth is permanent but you can revive people in the temples and with resurrection spell.
I like the new version. I'm playing it on Switch and it basically feels like I'm playing Dragon Age.
Dragon Age is a great RPG! I want to playthrough that on the channel for sure!!
did you know, you can charm any npc ? they tell you they writing a novel about drizzt or convince nobles to lock there valuable item in a Inn and afterwards loot the treasure.
Haha really?!?!
Yeah the first few levels on core or harder difficulties are just ridiculous!! So much death and chunking!!
Edwin/Viconia evil party >>> hamster dude
Totally agree with you on thievery skil! It's the first thing I do when playing Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale - I map thievery skill under "X" on my keyboard. Speeds up things tremendously :). I will surely buy this on my PS4, but I intend to wait for it to cheapen a little. Asking full price for a game which sells dirt cheap on PC every steam sale is too much for me.
Agree with that definitely!!
@@HazVsRPG I wonder why Beamdog didn't just have a context menu pop up when pressing A while near a chest, etc. That would have been simple and fast.
@@adambirkholtz4453 thats a really good idea!
I remember death is not permanent as long as you have a cleric that can bring ppl back to life
You can resurrect characters at Temples, at least in the PC game. You just can't resurrect the main character.
Wow that is Awesome!! Im really interested in this actually, how on earth do you defeat some of the harder battles in the game on bhaal difficulty!?!?
[Level 5 take shield and mirror img.] Talk to Belt
Thieves guild: _Grab tome of dex, ident, use._ Enter maze
Maze: Invis and rest. Cast shield. Go through maze, ignore enemies. Once past the doom guards, use MGoI scroll. Exit maze to Undercity
UC: Enter Temple of Bhaal
ToB: Approach the altar cautiously from the east *but not too close to the pillars or you will spawn a Battle Horror!* If you set off a trap just retreat, wait for spells to end.
@@lucasfabisiak9586 oh man! Thank you so much for this!! I'm going to give this a whirl!! May even do this on stream!!
My absolute biggest concern was the movement. Glad to see they handled it well
Thanks for the video. I’ve never played a baulders gate game before and both 1 and 2 are on sale right now for PlayStation. I wanted to give them a try but I was very worried the controls would be horrible. Glad they managed to port them to controller well!
Aside from trade being slow and tedious in NWN PS4, I'm really enjoying the DualShock controls. They work quite well with everything else.
100% Thats what surprised me the most. It feels *very* slick!
I really hope one day they do a Dark Alliance 1 & 2 remaster :'(
That would be awesome!!
Dark Alliance is now out on the PS4! Not a remaster, but a step in the right direction 🙂
Thanks!
Agree with you on that one, is it available on the PSN Store for PS4 play in the US?
@Lord Starkiller you guys can play dark alliance on ps4??? Damn!
Ive been wishing for them to do this for what feels like forever! I really hope it (BG:DA) becomes a thing with these old PC games now on consoles.
I hated the BG on console
I think there hasnt been a remake of bg on ps2 because snowblind is defunkt and also licensing issues.
Who's here after Baldur's Gate 3?
Just bought it today on sale at GameStop! First time playing a baldurs gate game. I found this video helpful, thanks! Going to start on easy though 😅
Best of luck!!! Absolutely classic game!!
I was wondering about that! Good call man! Good to hear it plays well on the switch!!
Now just remaster the Dark Alliance series to the PS4 or even PS5. I enjoyed those games just the same. :)

Thanks for the review of how the game works on console (Especially the controls). You have convinced me to pick up a copy.
Oh let me know what you think! I know there are a few people that picked it up and still were not convinced regarding the controls and prefer keyboard and mouse!
I had no idea this even existed on PS4. Definitely gonna wait for a sale, $50 is a bit ridiculous. Good video!
There is even a giant new collectors edition boxed set with bg1, bg2, iwd, torment, nwn in it!!!
21 sterling on amazon now
I bought it! Been playing for a while now! Absolutely love it!
I just got it for $25, have a week to try it out. I played it when it first came out long ago, so got it for nostalgia.
I'm very happy with the PS4 version, the only thing that annoys me is when some characters die, it takes forever to reequip them.
Yes totally agree!!!
what do you mean dies? perma death ? oh man and what is re equip
so you just have to remove all there stuff and leave them there to die?
No not perma death. But if a character dies you need to take all their stuff and then you have to revive them, then you need to give them all the stuff again and it takes pretty long on PS4
Well narrated and well said. We would love to have you on our site and podcast sometime. I am a huge BG fan from the late 90’s on. I feared how well they could port the real time combat and pathfinding to a controller
Thank you dude!!
I love the baldurs gate games, I admit I used to cheat a bit by spamming all my mage creature summons and resting after each fight
I'm sold knowing that it plays well with a controller. I just can't stand playing games at a desk anymore.
After playing games on an 55" OLED it seems next to impossible to go back to a not only a desk but a monitor. My 39 year old neck can't do it anymore.
same here m8, every game I can get on console, there I go, I just can't stand it anymore hahaha
Could care less about trophy's never have never will (insert foamy rant on achievements here). However I will be picking it up as I want every amazing game on PS4 all 200 + games eventually so once you said the port is amazing it was a must have for me.

The original BG on pc was life changer for my gamer life.I love it very much.
Now Pillars of eternity is the only cure for me after the bad news BG3 changing to turn-base.
I agree with you!! Feel sad about it, it is what it is. Annoying but true!! I will be looking forward to trying pillars!!
@@HazVsRPG Mine must be broken. Highest I ever rolled was an 88. Next time I'll put on some music and roll til it happens.
@@stevelenores5637 it also depends on what race/class combo you choose. For instance if you choose a halforc fighter you'll regularly roll high scores, but if you take a dwarven theif you'll roll worse. I forget the reasoning I just remember that being a thing.
Wouldn’t be surprised if mouse support was added
Wishlist updated.
Thnx for the review.
No Problem! Thanks for watching!!
I really want to get this on my PS4 in the near future.Just recently got Elden Ring, so gonna have my hands full for awhile...I did enjoy video though.
Man no one know how important quick save and quick load buttons are in these games haha
Haha yuuuup!!!
Loving it!
So so great to hear this!! I will be doing a rundown of these when I get to them also!!!
Jesus christ, I love this man's voice.
Haha thanks so much :D
I tend to agree with you about planescape!! I'm not a fan! Maybe that will change if I play again!

About dying in BG. I think you can resurrect dead companions by paying 800 gold per dead companion at a temple

@@williamshafer1996 not at all! No apologies required, in fact it's my blunder, you join a handful of people who have pointed it out, I need to be more careful when I say things!!
Just like starcraft on the nintendo 64, it really works!
All those games are included? Nice. I'm a fan of BG1 with the sword coast expansion for PC, but never played the others.
Worth it! Siege of dragonspear looks amazing so far!!!
If you liked BG1 then BG2 is the same thing but 5x better. My favorite game ever.
But yeah these are the original games from which the ps2 dark alliance games spawned from 😂
You sir have earned a new sub.
Thank you dude! I appreciate that!
Before you buy, dude it cost 3,19e on Steam now
I'm only now considering purchasing the game has there been any update to the things you brought up as concerns here? I played The Originals when I was way younger I don't think I'm going to remember the game too well personally but I would hope that some of these quality-of-life things could have been put in in the last couple years
I'm not actually sure as i have not gone back ot the game to check! I wonder if anyone else has confirmed any updates?!
@@HazVsRPG I just bought it n it had 2-3 GB update. Can anyone tell me how to save the game please?
I bought it and loved it. I'm still playing the crap out of it.
I will be back to siege of dragonspear and then on to Baldurs Gate 2 really soon!!
I never bothered with these on console because I figured the controls would suck ass but the main reason is I feel I'd have sit closer to the TV to see everything so I'd rather just play on PC.
