Just in lockdown and reminiscing about my trek to EBC in nov 2018,I loved my stopover in Namche bazaar, great food, lovely locals and views to die for, thanks for the vlog, stay safe
A trek to the Everest base camp is my big dream. And your video has made me get closer to the experience. Thank you very much for the enchanting shooting:)
That is my plan. I'm not really up for a long trek, but I have been going to Nepal for the last 25years (on and off) and always said that I should get up there. Now I have set the date.
Thanks for sharing, we film gopro walks mainly in soulful cities in Europe, so it's great to have others guiding us through places we will probably never get to see. Thank you, I enjoyed traveling around with you and I've subscribed.
Thanks for walk through Bryn, an interesting looking town. Herman Helmans Pizzaria,I would have had to stop there just o have a german made pizza in Nepal, you won't see that combination too often. And a Walmart?
Thanks PTCX. There were quite a few weird name combinations that made you do a double take. I didn't see a Walmart though. It's hard to believe how good the food and coffee was in Namche, considering everything is carried in.
Enjoyed the video Bryn. Know that I'll never be able to walk in your footsteps. So thanks for taking us along. I have the Evolution Z1. Walking along those narrow streets makes the walking bob, more noticeable. Difficult to roll the feet walking along those rocky streets. :0)
Hey Dave. Any reason you don't think you'd be able? I have wanted to walk in Nepal for a long time and I started to worry that it would never happen, so spontaneously booked a flight and just went. It was awesome. I think the "Bob" is better for some situations than not using a gimbal at all. You can watch my vlogs when they are finished to see the difference without. I have been super busy but I'm trying to edit them now. Bryn
I couldn't say as I didn't see it back then. I almost went in 2003 for the 50th anniversary of the First Everest Summit but couldn't get the time off. I waited this long to go but loved every moment.
Its crazy to me, how they brought all this stuff up there on their backs and their yaks backs, all those windows, sheet metal and the cement, i doubt it gets flown in by heli, that would be super expensive.
Everything is either brought in by Plane or Chopper to Lukla then carried up to Namche OR there is an airstrip high above Namche and items need to be carried down. Either way, it's mind-boggling to westerners who are used to driving a car to the shops and back.
Great video, I have the same set-up actually. Did you mount the gimbal to your chest or just go handheld? Also, much better with no music. Makes it more relaxing :)
Handheld mounted on a UFO tripod. It has bendy legs and can be set up almost anywhere. That worked well when I was carrying a pack, where every bit of extra weight is a problem. I also took a BackPack strap mount but didn't use the gimbal for that. The gimbal works better for extended filming blocks rather than stop/start. Yes, I find the lack of music helps me remember the experience as it was. There was something really relaxing about walking around in Namche.
You'll love it. Walking around Namche is a relief after the long slog up from the entry gates of Sagarmatha National Park. We stayed high up at the Panorama lodge. I had been carrying a 15/16 KG pack, so this felt ridiculously easy walking around without that weight. The next day we walked up to Kunde Peak and back to Namche for the night. Still went down to town to walk around. Love this place.
We walked to the Everest View Hotel (via Kunde Peak) and back in one day. We went the hard way. If you go straight to the Everest View Hotel, it is easier. As long as you are fit and healthy, you should be fine.
@@brynmag its just my circumstances now I guess .Maybe back in the day when I was single with no expenses .I mean I did the round the world stuff and Asia but I think I felt Nepal was to remote for my liking. But after watching this I feel that I should have made the effort
I nearly always use background music. It can turn raw footage into a masterpiece!! But here I just wanted to show the location as it was. Just the sounds of people living and interacting.
yo thau pugya xuina so sarai jane ghumne rahar xa pailai sanai bata ani namchee bazaar ko chauri gai ko dud dahi xurpi ani gundruk jasta Anya kura haru khanu maan xa I Hope next year I will go Namchee bazaar to visit
Haha, the coughing. Is that westerners with the altitude or the charas lol. I'm sure I saw a a giant rat cross the road 🤣 The pizzeria sign looks interesting. Any reviews? One bite everyone knows the rules 😂
Thank you for acknowledging that. I really wanted it to be authentic with the ambient sounds and voices as if the viewer was actually there themselves.
I had no idea that the trail to base camp was so overtouristed. What are there...like 500 stores selling cheap puffer jackets? I love how there are big towns well beyond any road system. I guess everything is hauled up by hand or donkeys. I no longer want to go to Namche. There must be lots of less touristy but beautiful treks in Nepal.
I had no idea what to expect but I loved it. Not at all worried by the number of Trekkers (I wouldn't call them tourists as everyone had to walk a long way to get there). We probably looked through at least half those 500 stores, so interesting. Bought stuff but did a lot of browsing. Out on the trail, beyond Namche, you can walk for a long time without seeing anyone else. I would suspect that other treks in Nepal would be the same. The trails are beautiful and everyone congregates in the town. Most people are happy to share a table and a story. Very social.

Thank you for this. I am heading up in March/April 2019 and have been searching a lot of videos to find a good walk through of Namche. Cheers.
You're welcome. You'll love it!! Once you get over the walk there that is. I honestly could have stayed at Namche for days, it was very cool.

Jeez, it certainly has changed since I was last there in 1999-2000. Think I prefer the old Namche......

It occurred to me later, maybe I should have shot in 4K but I am quite happy with the footage at 1080p.
Wow very cool and unique! I definitely would visit there 👍
You should! It is amazing being there.
U upgraded to new camera pl let me know thanks as I'm also interested for newone
I have had every model GoPro so far. I now have the HERO8 but have not filmed with it yet. The new stabilisation means no need for a separate gimbal.

Sorry, can't remember but probably 1080p/30 or 60fps. Protune OFF.

Thanks. 😀
Do locals live in the houses on the mountainside? Thanks
Yes they do.
Most of the locals live in a small town called Khumjung, a valley, nearly 500 meters above Namache and is about one hour walk
