We stayed in a hotel at London Aldgate and although the room was small the service was excellent and we had a view of London and free bits and a bottle of wine in the room as it was our anniversary. Cost £135 walkable to borough market Tower of London etc. roof top bar and restaurants. think £800 is steep with no access to spa etc.

I can’t help but feel really sad for you after this one. £800 for a nice bath, a £1 noodle pot, some supermarket biscuits and a room with no character overlooking a dirty train line and grey buildings (which was the upgrade!) I would not have left without some sort of reimbursement or discount due to your most sought after experience being under construction. Thank you for reviewing this so we can avoid disappointment. ❤

Yes I would have requested the chef to cook the bacon more. Didn't the chef wander around? No accountability for the misinformation regarding spa. Where was the duty manager? Hotels can only get away with this because people don't complain.

As much as I love the way you appreciate every little thing, with no Spa that is not worth what you paid. A discount or voucher is a given and I’m shocked it wasn’t automatically offered.
I worked at a little old Comfort Inn back in the day, and for me, a complimentary free night's stay with spa should have been offered to you for your inconvenience.
I'm so surprised they didnt do more to compensate you for the pool & spa being unavailable. They could have offered you a complimentary return trip to the spa, a massive discount on your stay, or the ability to change your booking to later in the year when the spa is available. Such poor customer service.
Those Walkers biscuits are available in any grotty hotel. (trust me, I’ve stayed in loads for work) I would have thought that an upmarket hotel such as The Shard would have had much nicer biscuits. Love you Grace. ❤ xx

I've stayed in a £150 room that had champagne on arrival, bathrobes, slippers and beautiful bath. The view wasn't as good obviously but jesus. Also the room had gourmet chocolate and nuts, no ramen.

Loved the production of this vid! Also loved that you got a mic specially for outside takes! My opinion is that I think they shoul've offered you something else for not having the spa open, in the end thats something included in the price, either a lower fee or a voucher for another time or something else. I think its a really nice place but very expensive and still needs some details to fine-tune certain things, and yeah its crazy to think for even a lower price you can get a whole 7 day vacation on a cruise! But glad you had a lovely experience and thank you for taking us with you again ❤
We got upgraded too. I think it's one up from this room as it had floor to ceiling windows all around one side. It was truly amazing. And Acqua di Parma toiletries. Will never forget that suite.
If this was me I’d be kicking off royallyyyy Karen-style that they hadn’t told me about the closed spa and hotel. By the time I was leaving I’d have a full refund, complimentary stay, free meal and probs the whole mini bar contents for free 😂

Pros - amazing breakfast, amazing views and service. BIG cons - they really disappoint by not providing an alternative to the spa or a future pass for it, also the staff were clearly confused about it too? If you're paying that much the bed should be perfectly made and all facilities in the room should be complementary. You’re a better person than me 😂. If I wasn’t told the spa and fitness center was closed I would ask for a partial refund or a voucher. That is so much money for a room like that. But im an Airbnb girly more so than a hotel girly.
Honestly I think I would have demanded a refund and walked out. That is shocking customer service and Grace should have stood up for herself more and not said it was ok. Hopefully the hotel will see this and the bad publicity and give her some retribution.

Was the gym part of the spa that's closed off?I'll admit the lack of amenities, having been on several cruises I'd rather go on a cruise which has fine dining, swimming pools, jacuzzi, gym, spa- (usually extra £) with a lot more freedom and also getting to see more of the world when you've already been up the shard before... That definitely isn't an £800 worthy room and I'm guessing that your "upgrade" was likely to have been from a room with no windows 😂😂😂
The hotel was very unluxurious. That rubbish complimentary tea tray with a random cheap pot of ramen and obligatory 1 star B&B shortbread biscuits? What were they thinking?! I’ve had far better for far less. The decor looked very conference hotel in style apart from the bath, but even that is a gimmick that would quickly wear out its novelty. No complimentary minibar and having to pay for a minuscule tube of jelly beans? Nope. I’m only a few minutes into the video and there is nothing remotely indulgent and satisfying about this hotel. The customer service around the lack of spa availability is shocking - staff lying, no apology or financial restitution for the impact on your stay, blatant insinuation that the reason you didn’t know is down to something you did or didn’t do rather than a huge oversight on their part…they treated you like someone having a one off stay who wouldn’t be return business anyway so they didn’t have to make a huge effort to keep you happy. I’m going to watch the rest now but I’m cross on your behalf that what should’ve been a lovely, special treat is not going how you planned. Very disappointing.
Great video! I would definitely expect more for that price! Agree with other comments that you should be given a future spa pass! And also agree that in hotels that expensive the mini bar should be free!
I used to be a maid, and honestly, that is awful with the sheets on the bed. My honest guess is, that they didn't change the bottom sheet. Someone yanked the top covers off, and put new on top, but didn't bother with the sheet on the bed. I have seen lazy maids do that many times in my work experience. It's not okay, and a lot get fired for it, but no way was that bed done right.
I don't know why it cost that much since it just seemed like a regular hotel apart from the bathroom. 😮Are there other high rise hotels in that area to compare?😌

Nah there's grounds to get at least a partial refund with regard to the spa. I'd they haven't stated that in the booking process its really shady. They just assume most people aren't going to complain, maybe 800 isn't a pricey hotel for many who stay there but for others it will be a special maybe once in a lifetime at that cost and for that they should offer the full experience.
With the spa and pool access I think I’d be worth it for a once in a lifetime getaway if you have the money for it. The breakfast buffet looks incredible. Without the spa and pool though, and them never communicating that to you, that’s not okay and I’d be pretty upset. I’d either be asking for partial refund or a spa pass
I don't normally criticize but the room bed is standard for an American hotel room and the furnishings don't seem luxurious. The view over rail tracks seems depressing. I am glad the bedding is luxe.
I understand rent is different to hotel rooms and it is in central London, but if you think about how far £800 would go toward a lot of people’s rent. The spa was a disappointment too. I felt the letter explaining the situation should have been sent to the room or read on the phone. Was there information that you missed regarding later dates/partial refunds? It was planned work by the sound of things so it should have been clear at time of booking.
Look up the reviews (and replies) for forest hills resort in scotland. The manager thought sending guests to the council pool 40 minutes away was acceptable when theirs was closed.
I think for that price its shocking to not pre- warn you the spa is closed so you can be refunded or rebook. Yes they upgraded you, but i still don't think that makes up for it.
Kinda expected all the branded snacks and drinks to be the high end kind. I stayed in the shard once just to try it and thankfully the spa was open when I went and we pretty much had it to ourselves as we went early morning ❤ it was amazing - They accidentally gave us some gin (it was for another room) and we thought it was included and drank it but they just let it slide as it was their mistake I know it is expensive but it was a great experience I’ve tried Claridges and Dorchester afternoon tea and I thought it was really good 😊 Maybe go back to Claridges and try it again xx
I find it interesting Grace assumes a large part of the reason people book there is the Spa. I don't think that is the case at all. Only a small portion of the guests normally use the spa. Believe it or not, people just pay that much for a hotel room.

The bath seemed lovely! It seemed so nice to have a bath there and watch the sunrise/set, the breakfast seemed great too! All the free lil extras were nice! While I imagine it would be an absolutely lovely place to stay at for 2 weeks or whatever, I can't imagine how much money that would be!

"WalkWithMeTim" was the creator that Grace credited at the start about staying at the Ritz :) He does videos about staying at interesting locations, hotels, that sorta thing, but also does videos about theme parks, water parks, and other topics! Honestly if you enjoy Grace's videos I do recommend checking him out, like Grace he does very laid back, calm, easy viewing content that isn't heavy on the edits, music and such. Like Grace it's just laid back, comforting viewing!
If you booked the spa package you should definitely have been told or given a refund but ordinarily the spa is available for guests but you pay extra for treatments.
At that price you're basically paying for a high end hotel experience, not just a bed to sleep in whilst you spend the rest of your time exploring the city. No spa would be a deal breaker for me to be honest, its meant to be included in the price and therefore you should at least have been offered a partial refund and the fact that you weren't even told before booking is quite unprofessional. Write in a complaint and see if they offer you anything!
Gosh you're sooo nice, it's amazing that you've had a wonderful time, it's all that matters after all but if I were you I'd be freaking disappointed to get this for 800... that's really expensive and I think the service is not worth the price, I mean it should be normal to have kind staff & some diversity for breakfast even for cheaper hotel. I also prefer nature so the view is not appealing to me I'd be happier staying home 😅

The hotel was very unluxurious. That rubbish complimentary tea tray with a random cheap pot of ramen and obligatory 1 star B&B shortbread biscuits? What were they thinking?! I’ve had far better for far less. The decor looked very conference hotel in style apart from the bath, but even that is a gimmick that would quickly wear out its novelty. No complimentary minibar and having to pay for a minuscule tube of jelly beans? Nope.
I’m only a few minutes into the video and there is nothing remotely indulgent and satisfying about this hotel. The customer service around the lack of spa availability is shocking - staff lying, no apology or financial restitution for the impact on your stay, blatant insinuation that the reason you didn’t know is down to something you did or didn’t do rather than a huge oversight on their part…they treated you like someone having a one off stay who wouldn’t be return business anyway so they didn’t have to make a huge effort to keep you happy.
I’m going to watch the rest now but I’m cross on your behalf that what should’ve been a lovely, special treat is not going how you planned. Very disappointing.
Great video! I would definitely expect more for that price! Agree with other comments that you should be given a future spa pass! And also agree that in hotels that expensive the mini bar should be free!

I used to be a maid, and honestly, that is awful with the sheets on the bed. My honest guess is, that they didn't change the bottom sheet. Someone yanked the top covers off, and put new on top, but didn't bother with the sheet on the bed. I have seen lazy maids do that many times in my work experience. It's not okay, and a lot get fired for it, but no way was that bed done right.
I don't know why it cost that much since it just seemed like a regular hotel apart from the bathroom. 😮Are there other high rise hotels in that area to compare?😌
I have those very pillowcases - excellent quality, they are silky smooth... I personally wouldn't have gotten out of the bath!

Grace, loved the vlog. I'm nosey! Where the two bottles of water free for the taking and what about all the boxed items in the bathroom like the Toothbrush. Where those free and did you take those? Also, like you I feel like they should have compensated you in some way because the spa and the pool were not accessible. Your husband was right; I'd give them an 8 as well.
Oh I wish I had so much enthusiasm as you do by simply staying at the hotel. I guess I’m too old to enjoy a hotel, another husband and one more child yes but was enjoying dinner in shard once or twice it was really nice up in the sky
Hope you got some money off for the spa! It looks amaizng but i was shocked at the unprofessional mix up with the spa and alternative veing offered. It makes me wonder if there was an alternative but only offered to super rich clients or something

Nah there's grounds to get at least a partial refund with regard to the spa. I'd they haven't stated that in the booking process its really shady. They just assume most people aren't going to complain, maybe 800 isn't a pricey hotel for many who stay there but for others it will be a special maybe once in a lifetime at that cost and for that they should offer the full experience.
With the spa and pool access I think I’d be worth it for a once in a lifetime getaway if you have the money for it. The breakfast buffet looks incredible. Without the spa and pool though, and them never communicating that to you, that’s not okay and I’d be pretty upset. I’d either be asking for partial refund or a spa pass

I don't normally criticize but the room bed is standard for an American hotel room and the furnishings don't seem luxurious. The view over rail tracks seems depressing. I am glad the bedding is luxe.
The breakfast buffet looked wonderful, delicious balance of savoury and sweet options with lots of substantial entree items.
Grace I really think you got sharfted by the shard... you really should hve got something for the spa being closed... for £800 I expect much better

I understand rent is different to hotel rooms and it is in central London, but if you think about how far £800 would go toward a lot of people’s rent. The spa was a disappointment too. I felt the letter explaining the situation should have been sent to the room or read on the phone. Was there information that you missed regarding later dates/partial refunds? It was planned work by the sound of things so it should have been clear at time of booking.
Look up the reviews (and replies) for forest hills resort in scotland.
The manager thought sending guests to the council pool 40 minutes away was acceptable when theirs was closed.
I think for that price its shocking to not pre- warn you the spa is closed so you can be refunded or rebook. Yes they upgraded you, but i still don't think that makes up for it.

Kinda expected all the branded snacks and drinks to be the high end kind. And not finding out until arrival thay the spa is closed, for £800 I'd have wanted some compo or reimbursement... and i dont say that lightly cause I'm not the type to complain. I'd write an email to them tbh.

Would highly recommend you try the Tawny hotel, it'll blow the shard out of the water for you!
I stayed in the shard once just to try it and thankfully the spa was open when I went and we pretty much had it to ourselves as we went early morning ❤ it was amazing - They accidentally gave us some gin (it was for another room) and we thought it was included and drank it but they just let it slide as it was their mistake
I know it is expensive but it was a great experience

I find it interesting Grace assumes a large part of the reason people book there is the Spa. I don't think that is the case at all. Only a small portion of the guests normally use the spa. Believe it or not, people just pay that much for a hotel room.

The bath seemed lovely! It seemed so nice to have a bath there and watch the sunrise/set, the breakfast seemed great too! All the free lil extras were nice! While I imagine it would be an absolutely lovely place to stay at for 2 weeks or whatever, I can't imagine how much money that would be!

"WalkWithMeTim" was the creator that Grace credited at the start about staying at the Ritz :) He does videos about staying at interesting locations, hotels, that sorta thing, but also does videos about theme parks, water parks, and other topics! Honestly if you enjoy Grace's videos I do recommend checking him out, like Grace he does very laid back, calm, easy viewing content that isn't heavy on the edits, music and such. Like Grace it's just laid back, comforting viewing!
If you booked the spa package you should definitely have been told or given a refund but ordinarily the spa is available for guests but you pay extra for treatments.

At that price you're basically paying for a high end hotel experience, not just a bed to sleep in whilst you spend the rest of your time exploring the city. No spa would be a deal breaker for me to be honest, its meant to be included in the price and therefore you should at least have been offered a partial refund and the fact that you weren't even told before booking is quite unprofessional. Write in a complaint and see if they offer you anything!
A bit off about the spa and no alternative or comupence but that aside it did look lovely Grace and you had your favourite fella with you

Gosh you're sooo nice, it's amazing that you've had a wonderful time, it's all that matters after all but if I were you I'd be freaking disappointed to get this for 800... that's really expensive and I think the service is not worth the price, I mean it should be normal to have kind staff & some diversity for breakfast even for cheaper hotel. I also prefer nature so the view is not appealing to me I'd be happier staying home 😅

I've not personally stayed in many hotels but the room really didnt wow me, obviously the view was good!
You can stillsee the view if you just go to the top for an (obviously expensive) drink.
