  • Our forthcoming Peaks & Plateaus route is a diverse bikepacking loop in Utah that follows a scenic mix of roads and trails. It meanders between mesa tops, through valley bottoms, along sandstone canyons, and past snow-capped ranges that leave riders in awe of the regional geography. In this video, Neil recounts his recent three-day journey on route with friends, highlighting the many sights along the way...

    Great video and looks like a pretty cool route - would love to see the full route. Several yrs ago I did a loop that included Kane Creek and Steel bender - loved that, but need to get out to Lockhart Basin and check that out. Endless options around Moab!

    I gotta say, what does clock time matter when you're bikepacking? Heck, I may not even know what day of the week it is.
    Scenic ride in some nice country.

      I guess what I’m saying is, I would rather sleep in and pedal later than wake up early and stop pedaling by mid-afternoon. But, you have a point, once you are out there long enough you adapt to the whatever and whenever.

    Did you look for the "Monolith" spot? Remember that faux monolith that someone stuck out in the desert, ala 2001: A Space Odyssey? I believe it was off Lockhart Basin Road on a road that goes down canyon towards the Colorado. Right after you skirt along the cliffs on a narrow track and then make a tight turn where the road widens near a mushroom-like rock.

    One of you guys rode in Five Ten Freeriders. I was wondering if they are good for a whole day trip in the summer because I'm looking for flat pedal shoes for longer rides. Do they have a decent breathability and aren't they too heavy? Thx in advance :]

    I just wanted to point out that even if the by anual time change goes away, the days will still be short. It doesn't matter if the sun sets 1h later because it's also rising 1h later.
    A day with only 9h of sunlight will always be a day with only 9h of sunlight.

    • @BIKEPACKINGcom
      @BIKEPACKINGcom  2 года назад +1

      Yes, I understand. My whole point is the sun sets too early in standard time, I would love to wake up and be in darkness vs. dealing with darkness from 4-8 at camp before I get in my sleeping bag.

    • @BIKEPACKINGcom
      @BIKEPACKINGcom  2 года назад

      Nope, luckily none of us were on "gravel bikes". Ideal bike is an ATB.

    • @fastmtnbiker
      @fastmtnbiker 2 года назад

      Rim Tours gets way too many inquiries about doing rides like this on gravel bikes. We say no. Next question is gravel e-bike. 🙄 Still no. Moab is famous for mountain biking. While the choice of drop bar bikes wasn't hazardous to the health of these highly skilled riders, the fun factor increases on a flat bar big tire rig. If we had not received a decent rain storm, it would have been less fun for those guys on 2.1's.
