Everybody discusses Tony's legendary riffs, and rightly so, but his solos are equally as impressive and criminally underrated. He doesn't seem to get quite the amount of credit on lead guitar as he does on rhythm guitar, when in fact he excels at both. He rips through that pentatonic scale like nobody's business, and the string bends / vibrato are very expressive. He was basically shredding before shredding had a name!
Probably because his songwriting and riffs are so strong they overshadow what he does lead wise, I personally think once ronnie joins his lead work gets even better and continued to get better over a period of time where there was a noticeable difference in approach than what you heard during the 70s
@@knightfall9394 maybe because his later ( 80s ~ ) solos are much better and everything he did with sabbath after Dio is very underrated

Idk man, Iommi is one of the greatest but I think the Riff Master has to be Page. Zepp II has too many iconic riffs, not to mention riffs across Zepps other 8 albums. I will say however, they both manage to play very diverse styles. Page and Iommi can pull off pure metal (Communication Breakdown, and War Pigs) and can play medieval-type classical work (Stairway, and Bible Black)

The interesting thing about tony is how he proves that you don’t need to play a million notes to sound great. Plus, the guy plays with fake fingertips!
This man is missing three finger tips on his right hand. Which means he has ZERO feeling in them! He has these little things he puts on the end of his nubs so he can hit the strings. That is amazing!

Lol he had an accident when he was a kid.
Actually he's only missing 2 finger tips, and he was an adult when he had the accident. He chopped the tips of his fingers off in the factory he was working in the day he was going to quit. Come on, this is very well documented.

the worst thing is he has lost te 2 and 3 finger those are very importan finger.... django loose the 3 & 4 that way he could play fast made chords and more.... what you can do only using your first finger and the pinkie = power chords are the natural option

Mike Mason , I don't know if anyone can pull off crazy train like Randy. He was absolutely amazing. Kinda like these knuckle heads trying to pull off an Angus young solo. When it's your soul and signature lick, nobody else does it right. Don't get me wrong. Tony Lommi rocks. But you know what I'm saying.

+MrCamrox97 It's definitely the intro. It fit as the beginning of a guitar solo, IMO. They did a really similar thing when Rob Halford sang with BS for those two shows in 1992.

Toni is the one that made us all pick up a guitar and wanted too emulate the Master at what he does and what he's contributed to the Rock and Roll genre, not to mention Heavy Metal...Rock On Tony, sorry for the misspellings but I was jamming on your solo

Lmao, There is nothing underrated about tony iommi, he’s extremely highly regarded amongst guitarists and guitar publications and his contributions to the guitar world are always acknowledged. What is with the current trend of people naming musicians and saying they are underrated when they’ve been well respected by their peers and others in the business for years
Anyone who wants to get into playing guitar...listen to Tony...relatively simple licks and riffs..beautifully executed..the godfather of deep heavy bluesy rock metal..and he had only 3 fingers on his fret hand..what a fucking legend..a true pioneer

I always went to see TONY IOMMI play the Guitar, no matter where, or who was singing for Sabbath or HnH.....I just wanted to see the Master at his craft! Cool that it ended w/Ozzie & Geezer in 2016.

Greatest Guitarist of all time (Fight me). Notice how he almost always plays with his eyes closed? He feels the music, it flows within him.
I saw Black Sabbath (Technically Heaven and Hell which is just Sabbath but with Dio instead of Ozzy, unfortunately but still) Live in 2004. I was 14 and my mind was blown. Heaven & Hell and Die Young turned into 12 minute masterpieces because of his solos.
Crazy thing you may not know but 3 (Maybe 2) of his fingers on his right hand are made of wood. Not all of his career but I know it happened.

Yep. Still a Black Sabbath album. They worked without Ozzy and with Ronnie as Heaven and Hell after Ozzy's second return I believe it was.
I'm so disappointed. I'll never get to see them all live.
