I just ordered mine yesterday. Thanks for sharing... I see you have a kip moto trailer sitting off to the side in your garage. Great minds think alike. :>)
The unit was incredible ! I say was, because I sold my bmw with the tablet on. The upgrade is fantastic, you can't imagine the difference. Brightness, responsiveness, the fact that you have a nirmal android tablet with SIM card opens a plethora of options like waze, maps, whatsapp, youtube, radio, etc. The downside is that the tablet and the system is heavy, very heavy. In rough ofrroad sections sometimes it would move down at it was anoing to tighten it all the time. The other problem NOW is that the Carpe tablet no longer has the DMD software support. So you will not get the updates. BUT look on Tork Racing site because they have now again a tablet waaay slimmer. I hope it helps
@@hammy7139 No, with the Carpe Iter no. But with the other tablets, or nav phone that you can find on the Tork Racing site yes ! The Carpe Iter pad is produced in Czech Republic, the DMD app in Portugal. DMD is working not with other hardware manufacturers that suit their needs better.
Hello. That is the small control unit that manages the power to the tablet. Because the tablet will not power untill you start the engine. The green light indicated that the engine was running and it is charging the tablet as well
hello Romania Dual Sort, I saw that you connected the tablet to the GS harness to command the ignition key. if you check the supplied cable, where you have the positive and the negative, you will find a small box with a circuit; this has a function: it turns on the tablet (and a led lights up) when the current exceeds 13.5 Volts, i.e. when we turn it on and the alternator starts charging our battery. when you turn the key to switch off the engine, the LED will switch off after 2\3 seconds and will no longer power the tablet. I said all this because you can safely connect the two poles either to the battery or to any free connection one might find on his bike. Anyway great video, I just saw you now and I will follow you.
Thanks for the extensive video, I know how much work it adds to any project. My question is, how does the clamp hold on the trail? The rocky wash board trails I go on in southern California are brutal. Second, where did you find the arm clamp? I love the quality of the Thor products, however their website could really use some help in finding, and understanding the products in relation to one another.
Thank you so much for watching. Well there a thing here. If I would have tighten the bolt of the clamp very very hard, it would not move. But always the connexion point between the clamp and the tablet was week, I found myself several times adjusting the tablet because it moved. All the products I bought are from Tork. I didn't bought anything without discussing with them via e mail first. Thruth be told, it is a wonderful product but a little overkill. If I would take the DMD2 system again, I would go for a rugged phone with a controller.
Thank you for watching. I have just respected the instalation instructions from the manufacturer. Probably your sugestion si fine, but I just respected the manual
Thank you for the comment. Unfortunatelly no because I don't have the BMW anymore. But if you look through my solo ride series I think you can make something out of it. Cheers ! The series is called Apuseni Mountains Solo ride
@@johaneriksson8289 I would recomend it YES ! It is an awsome piece of equipment. But ! It is important to think how will you use it. A lot of offroad ? A lot of road ? How? Because it is expensive and it is better to think twice if you really need it. For example, now I use my ZumoXT as navigation. No need for something else.
Apparently soon you will also be able to use bmw wheel controller (rather that using for example a wunderlinq box to connect the two) to navigate through dmd2 software that come preinstalled with the tablet. Good video
Thank you for watching ! What would be even better is to have the posibility to use the wheel on a phone in the bmw cradle, with the DMD2 app. In this whay you don't have to spend a lot of money for the tablet. The tablet is great but maybe out the budget some people would like to spend
Thank you. Huge upgrade. The zumonis good for navigation, but that is it. With this system you have a "computer" on your bike. The posibilities are enormus!
Thank you for watching. In total it will take about 3 hrs. The cable routing from the support to the batery is tricky because you need to take out some plastics. It is not difficult you need to take your time
I cannot find that 12mm bracket lever thing on the Thork or Carpe iter website. Do you think you need it if you already have a AMPS GPS mount? I have a BikePenR BPR-R12GS-1-2 mount but it sits much closer to the bar than yours from the look of it. I am trying to understand if I need the extra bracket you bought
@@bazza8947 Yes, it can be lowered really down. But there is a catch. If you put it all the way down, the windshield is touching the tablet when fully turned
