- Gale Banks how we're cranking up the power in 2019. Look forward to watching us build a supercharged twin-turbo monster truck diesel engine, pushing a Duramax L5P to its absolute limit and opening the doors to tuners who want to learn how we do what we do.
Man I just live listening to this guy talk so inspiring I could listen to Mr. Banks talk all day about engines and never get bored!
Greezy Duhzit I’d rather get stroked than bored.
Yeah I would to just work with him and learn what he could teach me about engines both diesel and gas his knowledge is pretty big and he is really good at explaining things calmly and slow enough for me to wrap my head around it some.
I was going to make the same comment! Love hearing him talk. He's the Automotive equivalent to the werthers candy grandpa.
I like this new direction you are taking the company. This is what enthusiasts want to see and not so much a colorful 8 consecutive page spread in a magazine that nobody buys.
Ya, big dollars in this kind of advertising. Keep it up and watch your sales skyrocket.
TurboDieselDan new direction? This is what he always does.

"Flog the living hell out of it"...we need t-shirts Gale!
truckguyjoe yep
I would buy that shirt or hoodie since it’s cold out
That's hilarious!! Joe does this mean maybe I have some surprises to look out for? I really hope so!
Love that comment too! Go - go Gale!
Mr Banks could develop a line of comfortable shirts for hot & cold weather that are guaranteed to get you 🐈.
Hi Mr. Banks.
After the Duramax, another engine to test is the R2.8 Cummins.
Would be interesting to see what it can do and where upgrades can be done.
Would be nice to see some compounds and primary turbo size.
The original turbo I have seen on most are Holset HE211W.
Maybe adding a K27 or S300sx-e as a primary to the factory turbo.
Great work by the way Mr. Banks
Well I don't know of anyone making compound kits for the 2.8 cummins but sdptwins makes a kit for the 2.8 duramax which has same displacement and power rating as the cummins. Their kit uses the stock turbocharger plus a s300sx-e on top.
Waiting for Diff cover finale. Still.
So are we.
Okay, I vote GM changes that intake manifold's official part number to "The Sad Giraffe" in honor of Banks Power's nickname for it.
I saw the reason they call it that too when he showed it and srsly wtf was gm thinking with the design of that thing it looks so funky for air flow.
Hell yes
Have you not seen the Cumin's gay ass intake horn? Plus when an Intake manifold is under boost pressure it really don't. Not if it was naturally Aspirated then yes that would be a huge flaw.
Still better than the y bridge it used to have though
This has continually delivered some of the most quality content I've seen in a while. Gale Banks is super easy to listen to and they have pertinent information to share.
This channel is the BIGGEST sleeper channels for car guys and gals ....they deserve 1million subs
i think its great that he is reaching out via youtube. when i think of banks i think of old 70's carburtated cars and those old guys on hot roding tv shows. i do not think of high end performance for modern cars. this is great PR and a great way to shape a more modern company image.
Absolutely love watching the Professor give a class!
We love seeing y'all flog the hell out of anything. Keep it up!!! 👍👍
Is ANYONE cooler than Gale Banks?
Good question Angry Panda. I'll bet GM, Ford, Chrysler, Diamler-Benz, Toyota, Honda, Porsche, Audi, Nissan, Isuzu, and BMW (who have I left out? Mack, Paccar, International, Freightliner?) all have highly-paid engineering departments studying every move he makes.
Probably, but they aren't 1/4 as smart as him.
Gail Banks is the man, no dispute! He is one the few people who can passionately teach their trade, a true expert
No!!!
His mother and father.👍
Fuck yeah. Nice content here. Gail is like "oh you guys think you know the L5P?"
"The Sad Giraffe" I love it!
Fantastic video!!!!! Super excited to see what y’all do in 2019!!!
I've never owned a diesel and probably never will, but I love watching these advancements, thanks
I'm sure glad you got something coming for my Cummins
Been waiting for months. I might as well find another source.
Gail you are truly a legend I known about your stuff way back into the 80s they broke the mold when they made you you are truly the best and you're inspiring and I must say as time goes by you even get better your products are number one and they performed the best please keep the videos and that great stuff coming
Always look forward to your videos. Really looking forward to the diff series.
If I didn't rebuild CFM56 jet engines, I'd love to work for Gale Banks. The man's the legendary "sane, mad scientist" of engine performance. Many build engines that can scream power and torque to the ground. Gale does it so that it will do it everyday. He has genius oosing out his pours.
Gale is working his dream job and you can tell he loves it!
Mr. Banks, your enthusiasm is your best marketing tool.
Gale Banks is the goat! Showing us everything we want to see.
Would love to see you do this to all 3 major platforms.
@@BustedWalletGarage Lol... Was referring to consumer level. Commercial level would be a whole different ballgame.
Nah...the Duramax is the only diesel worth a damn.
Duramax is the only one worth it. Cummins is good but a Dodge is a pos truck.
@@ChuckBeefOG 6:53
The Cummins doesn’t need any help, it’s already the baddest piece out there.
I wish banks would build duramax intake manifolds that would work for a streetable truck. They already have the big hoss intake but good luck making it work with a typical turbo setup
I would love to see a video of the engine destructing itself on the dyno during the max test operation.
Thank you for this video! Best holiday present this year!
I love you man! Your absolutely one of the best Engineer's hot rodding has and ever will have. Gale Banks is a name that will stand as a Legend in the automotive history books. Gale your just plain ol exciting. Thank you sir for what you do. Merry Christmas to you and all in the family. 👍
Love the vids and the awkward long pauses at the end.
98 12 valve. Yea. this man is a legend.
Well gettin ready to send all my money to you guys🤑! After get to the end of this journey I’m going to be even more in love with the L5P I’m sure of it!!!!
We're standing by. 😉
Thanks for the great video upload and keep them coming back for more like me. Thanks again mr power
VERY excited to see what you have in store for 2019! Keep up the great work. It will be interesting to see the numbers on the dyno of what each piece contributes to the power gain/loss. Love these vids.
Great video Mr. Banks!
Mr. Banks i love everything i do been a huge fan since I started wrenching as a teen now it's my career im a diesle mechanic for Peterbuilt but any way of live to see u work with the new R2.8 an the eco diesel not many people have touched these yet (well at least there are no videos really) thank u for everything u do u r a damb legend (excuse my language)
Seems like a real cool guy with a boat load of passion
I feel GD (Gosh Dang) lucky that Mr Banks has decided to make these videos and share his ideas on RUclips. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to Gail and the entire Banks crew.
Gale Banks for president. Way to go man keep up the good work.
Great! Gale, you mentioned compound turbos. How about turbocompounding the engine, a la the Curtis-Wright R3350 radial engine? My dad worked on them back in the day and he said they gave no trouble. All they did was sit there, spin and add horsepower. That would be so cool!
This man is amazing, when he speaks, we need to listen!
Can't wait, It will definitely be a fun watch. I know your not to much into fords but it would be cool to see what the job 2+ powerstrokes could do.
Super excited to see where this goes..
@1:39 "We want to make the subtraction minimal, and the addition Maximal". C'mon Mr. Banks - I know that's what you wanted to say! Great video as always
Yes...."racing applications" 👌
Such a smart team you have there.. Thank you for the great videos.
Cummins guys say thank you for saving some love for us!
Gale, this is Dr Sendit... continue your right foot extensions, pressing firmly on the therapy peddle until the noise in the front goes away... Merry Christmas Banks gang...
This is good. This is where my attention is at.
I'm guessing it'll shorten a rod at ~800 wheel with a compound over stock kit. Probably a little higher with a single fixed turbo. New shortblock looks promising, hopefully no more hit or miss crank failures.
We're looking forward to that Monster truck engine!
Gale banks your a American bad ass!!!!!!! You make everything better!!!!
Hmmm. Twin turbo w a supercharger...
Brings up memories of a 3408 cat w a couple of T4 turbos and a 671 blower.
Aka the PT boat motor.
Gosh it should be a beast!
I can’t wait to see your results!!
I can't wait and see what all y'all have in store
Hope you guys have a high speed camera around when you start pushing its absolute limits
Looking forward to 2019
Crank on the street, heads hit the hood. Love it!
I dont even get into diesels. But goddamn your awesome. Subscribed
Gale Banks is a badass!
I really enjoy your videos
" ya got me on the edge of my seat "
Looking forward to the Cummins vids!!
Mr. Banks you are indeed The Mad Scientist.
We need to get some more duramax engines on motortrends diesel power challenge ;)
I want to see it now.
As a big fan of Banks and a Cummins guy, I’m stoked about your last comment
Theres been a compound setup done at 700hp range with the rest stock aka fuel system
Calling this guy a legend would be an understatement.
Will be interesting to see the street legal tune on this with easily installed
parts. And a shootout between the Powerstroke is exciting too
God damn I love Gale banks
Oh man this is gonna be great, can't wait !
the dude is a genius
Dang I was hoping to see Chevy parts scattered everywhere😏
You'll see some Ford parts scatter soon.. well, you probably see that everywhere lol
@@lrizo3841 well theres a price to pay for out powering the competition.
@Tsunauticus III you cant argue with the chevy fan boys man they will never see reason. I love ford i have a 7.3 and i also drive a lbz duramax because it is also a great engine. But when it comes to the body and axles, my duramax parts look like 1/2 ton parts compared to the f250 no joke the front hubs are twice the size.
Go to a truck pull.
@@gradoisx2348 Dude I recently towed with a lb7 moving cars for like a month straight and jesus the chevy suspension is so weak compared to my old 97 3500hd 12v dodge like my smaller hydraulic tilt car trailer put the duramax on the overloads with nothing on it and the big trailer with like 14" I beam a deck over and 8k axles didnt even move the old dodge flatbeds leafs.
Granted one is a dually the other was a 2500 but sheesh like you said the 98 k1500 squatted about the same as the 2500 the only diffrence was the power of the duramax towing vs the old 5.7l 350.
What ever this man offers for the L5P I’m buying it if it improves HP TQ
Not a diesel man. But it's fun to hear news on powertrain improvements.
I remember when he "jailbroke" the 6.2 Chevys and 6.9/7.3 fords. In the early 90's and a $3K plus dollar banks turbo kit had performance gains of UPWARDS of three to five horsepower. = $1,000 per H.P.
How do you jailbreak a mechanical diesel like the 6.9 and 6.2???
us cummins guys will be here waiting. we’re reliable.
Is the Derringer for the 2017 Cummins cooking for 2019?
and I quote from a previous video----"Yes, Gale's 2017 Ram 2500 has been the subject of 100+ hours of R&D on the new Derringer inline tuner. ETA is toward end of summer or early fall."
"End of summer and early fall" have long passed. What gives?
Awesome 👌🏻👌🏻 keep the videos coming!!
Can't wait to see it. Flog the HELL out of it!
love your work!!!
Some more humidity data would be very nice. How much humidity can be added to the combustion process?
I've got a question, I have a 1994-5 school bus with a non Turbo 5.9 Cummins that has a air compressor mounted on the front of the engine for the air brakes,, I'd like to know if that air compressor would bolt up and fit on my 2007 1/2 6.7 Cummins in my 3500 dually
Merry Christmas to everybody
The weak link is the thing behind the l5p. Called a transmission. Thats why theyRE WORKing on a new transmission for 2020. They have detuned the engine to protect the transmission
Allison transmission weak? Yeah ok
There good until 550 to 600 hp and then they slip
@@trevorschield8195 thanks i thought i was the only ones to listen to gm too. People are complaining of l5p delayed downshift. Gm says its to protect transmission from overtorque.
Wish gale would tell us about deleting, and how to.
You think you will end up with a crank and rods, with no block on the dyno? After the explosion I mean!
(Like the Cummings I'm sure everyone has seen) I guess you will creep up the power, until smaller things break. No point of exploding it. To the point where you can't tell what it is or was! Can't wait for the FLOGGING!!!
Gale, I appreciate the content! But where is the action? You’re very good at cliff hangers, especially in the rear differential videos haha. I really liked the intercollegiate explanation with your new gauge. Clearly explains the intake air temperature impact. Your views might go up with some more action! Love your company and information but sitting though 10’s of minutes to get information isn’t with the times.
Gale, how about starting with an affordable TUNE/exhaust for the L5P !!!!
scott ohms there isn’t one your goin be paying a insane amount for the tune
That ending... knocking on the door of awkward.
What about Powerstroke’s?
Please make some epa legal performance parts for the 2013+ Cummins
If it can be broken ... give it to a sailor or give it to Gale to get a though detailed explanation why 👍🏻
I can’t wait!!
Mr banks I wanna see what the 4 banger & the in-line 6 duramax are capable.
Legend at work ‘
Love This !
Yup, tee shirts and oh yeah the final diff cover video(s) dammit. 😂
We've got both coming your way! Shirts and videos. 👍
Please do this for the M57 and N57 based diesels by BMW
Don't forget us Toyota guys!? I've seen banks parts for the tundra. No tacoma though 😣I need better fuel economy ...air intake ....exhaust...?? Or......?
Hey Derek. We didn't forget you! We are working through some new ideas for the current Tacomas and Tundras. We gotcha covered from some of the previous versions shop.bankspower.com/i-149-48139. Plus we also have our iDash 1.8 Super Gauge: shop.bankspower.com/series-2-idash-1-8 which works on a wide variety of vehicles.
Always wondered how you "tune" a harmonic balancer for a specific engine, are there different frequencies for every engine
or ??
I bet when Gale was a child he would jump into different size puddles with different shoes on to determine the best splash/water ratio.
