Whenever I do this, Windows ignores whatever I have highlighted and ONLY compresses the one file I right-clicked into a zip file. It's very annoying, what should I do?

Select with the control key , then right click

you should use the shift key to select also you can not zip a file or folder that start with "." (for example".godot", ".env" for any find of data env stuff)

There are tools that will let you update a file inside of a zip archive without having to first go in and delete it from the archive, but I don't know if the native zip folders tool in Windows lets you do that. I used to do that with the original PKZIP program in DOS, but I can't think of a situation today where I'd need to modify an existing zip archive. These days, I'll probably end up just making a brand new zip archive with the latest files and then delete the old zip.

having a winrar and adding it to archive is way easier and better then zip files. You cant compress a file which has like a - meanwhile on winrar you can
