- Johnny is a Vietnam Veteran living homeless in Nashville. During the interview, Johnny, who is in a wheelchair, starts telling me how the small RV he was living in was impounded. They even came to tow it when he was still inside.
When Johnny told me he had raised $230 to get his "home" out of impound I was impressed and started to think of different ways I could help.
Thanks to all of you we raised the money to get the RV back to Johnny. You can read more about it and watch a short video here • Thanks to Social Media...
I wish all InvisiblePeople.tv stories ended happily like this. Thing is that they can. We all helped Johnny and we can all work together to end homelessness.

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as RUclips, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.
I hope the Veteran Assiciation will do something to help this homeless brother. Not only him but all the other veterans too.
This sickens me---this gentleman served his country and he loses everything. He didn't give up, he continues to fight and I applaud you for getting stories like this out there.
8 years ago, I hope you're doin' good now Johnny. God bless you man, none of this bs should've happened.
I am so happy that Johnny got his home back with the help of some very good people. It is shameful that veterans who have served their country are treated like this. This is a great site ,as it gives the homeless a chance to speak their minds. They are no longer invisible.
Its fucked. As a TSGT in the USAF. The VA is uttershit Complete uttershit.
How is he today in June 2020? I would love to contribute to help him if he’s still in need.
This world sucks. This guy should be given all the help he needs
Bless you sir
Sorry to hear about situation. No vet should be homeless
Glad to hear he got it back! Bless him!
This is such a crying shame, that we- the government treats their war veterans this way. God be with you Johnny.
I think this is the best and most useful channel on youtube. You are doing such a good, wonderful job! Thank you, thank you!
I sure hope this Vet's life got better, he was being robbed , should have called the police right away.
I read these stories from many years ago, and wish there could be an update on how these people are doing now.
Thank you for sharing this... Its sad to see how people are so insensitive to the needs of others today.
I almost became homeless. I went to college and everything..it can happen to anyone. I still fear because I really don't have family.
DON'T BE AFRAID
Me too, it almost happened after high school and during my freshmen year of college. I also had and continue to have little support. Ad I get older I have less and less support. God bless you.
Reminds me to ALWAYS have a rainy day fund....
Somone please help this man. Prayers for him!!
The owner of that Sprint store set him UP. At his advice, this man left his RV there with the owner's * permission* then, whilst this man slept, he erected a No Parking sign & called the towing company; set the homeless ball rolling & victimized this gent...for WHAT? Malignant Narcissism!
Entrapment.
Just evil! I hope he meets his KARMA!!
I am and I've been homeless and I watch these videos everyday
God bless Americans they so good to each other
i would like to say thank you for sharing his storie
Many tow companies are scammers. This type of activity needs to be illegal. If the man's story is true, this company is preying on those who can least defend themselves which is exactly why they are targeting him. It is extortion similar those 1-day loan companies who also prey on those with very limited financial means. It's a debt trap, the modern equivalent of creating indentured servitude
Someone takes your home and then charges you for their having taken it. That is just messed up. How is that even legal?
Like they take your house for tax liens and when the auction price doesn't cover the taxes the town sees the now homeless person.
@@basspig that's true. Whatever the difference is you pay the rest
@@dereklangley8582 Insult to injury.
A difference between me and folks like this man... I would tell the person's name who had him towed AND the towing company too. Next, where are the two dudes who went to get the distributor? Where they in on this?
First sign was the double billing you spoke of. Second sign was a sign, a new sign.
Please treat this veteran kindly.
yay, its good to hear the ending of the story, but god, the army should have never let this happen to a veteran.
Trump2020 The vast majority of homeless people who claim to be veterans are not. Real veterans have access to VA homeless programs as well as non-profit veterans programs.
Job well done ! I love you Brother!!!
Where you at Johnny I want to help you.
🙏
This was September of 2010. Eight years ago. What's the update?
Welcome to an absolute Capitalist system where the dollar is God.
Gott Bless You ❤️🌷
you all can thank our government officials for this mess - and people today are absolute heartless beings
could you please put a link to where we could donate or get in contact with the folks you are letting us know about ?
He should be treated with respect. He was a Vietnam Veteran.
Give the man back his truck and Rv.
Anyone know the Spring store he's talking about? We need to get together and take action. We can DO something to prevent this happening to anyone else. Please, lets work together and figure out who's the owner of this Spring store.
I would like to help if your needs are the same, God bless you I truly understand
god bless you man. does he get a check from the VA at all. he should fill out the paper work for that. it would give him sum income
fishcrazy104 All real disabled veterans get a monthly check from the VA or DOD. If they are not and they claim to be disabled vets then they are phonies.
Not everyone is a paycheck away from being homeless. We made a lot of sacrifices early on . We made sure we paid off everything. Off. I hope you can get your rig out. That’s shitty they would have your home towed.
Im there man, or, the management could have chosen to act like they cared.
A wrecker is by no means repo. when occupied.
Being one paycheck away from homelessness only happens if a person didn’t make sure early on in life they owned their home out right.
Not true your property is never truly owned by you. What happens when you can't pay the taxes? They take it. You really are just renting it your whole life.
Very sad
Most tow truck company like to rip off the poor people , most of tow truck in Oregon state , they refuse to tow RV .
That's ridiculous! The owner gives you verbal concent to stay there but the next day you cant and has your home towed ? Ass
Please, if you would like to help homeless VETS, and you shop at Amazon; they will donate a % to this channel, bxs
what a screwed up story
His house isn't impounded, probably didn't pay his property taxes and it went into probate...
How come Johnny and phil look like the same dude ? Except "johny" is cleaned up....
Que moneda tan amarga de pagar a sus veteranos, los convierten en perros de guerra y luego los desechan:::::::::::::
Please, if you would like to help homeless VETS, and you shop at Amazon; they will donate a % to this channel thru; AMAZON SMILE, based on TTL amt spent. Tku
I love how they all say your one paycheck away, the only people that are one pay check away are the ones that live irresponsibly or the people that don’t take the time to learn a skill that will pay well enough to save, I’m hundreds of paychecks away from homelessness and that because i determined myself, mastered a trade, opened my own business and never turned back, anyone could do the same but most wont
Not everyone is born into the same luxury it is hard for homeless people to get employed no one will hire them
You're a sick man; I hope the worst for you.
