Absolutely. Fun to see the map afterwords. Once my efhw was arranged horizontal across two branches, there was equal length of the antenna hanging vertical off the branches resembling a half square. When I was done all my contacts on the map were like laser beam straight north of my location. Tells me that’s one way to make a efhw very directional.
That is why the Ham Radio Duo does so good on POTA, it is just a hobby. You learn as you go and not stress, there is not one perfect way of ham radio. Thank you for sharing.
I like your videos so much. The combination of nature, beautiful shots and slow CW code make my CW learning much easier. It's fun to watch you as a team, keep it up!
Thank you so much for the kind response. We are having so much fun and enjoy being able to "bring you along" to enjoy it as well! Slow and steady activates the park :-) 73, Becky es Mike
Great activation! Operating from a mountain top is amazing - you can hear everything. Love the adventure component you guys add to the activations. Thanks for taking us along. 73 de N4AAJ
Thanks Scott! Tell Betsy she did a good job on the POTA stream last night! Fun you guys get out there together and adventure too. Finding neat spots whether we hike or bike is so much fun! 73, Becky es Mike
Great activation! One thing I’ve really enjoyed with CW field operations is experimenting with antenna configurations. I appreciate you two hunting me yesterday!! 73
Thanks Forrest, and always fun to hear you when we can and try to make contact!! The map for that one was almost exactly a semi-circle and we're sure it's because of the shallow slope and less height. It's fun to try different things and see what happens with our contact map. 73, Becky es Mike
¡Gracias por vernos! ¡Estamos deseando recibir y probar nuestro QMX! (Thanks for watching! We can't wait to get and try out our QMX!) 73, Becky es Mike
Well done! I enjoy watching you both because you're so chill. I'm planning to head out for my first activation this weekend and will just have to try to keep your attitude when it gets stressful. If it goes well, I'll have a video. If not, I'll just keep that to myself. LOL Thanks again Scott - NB0W
Thank you Scott. We are chill on the outside ... HiHi!! Good luck this weekend and we will be listening for you. As long as you have fun then it will go well, and the video is worth it to track your progress for replay of things you might have missed. We use it a lot for that :-) Let us know how it goes! 73, Becky es Mike
Sorry we missed you Stu! I think our lower and almost horizontal antenna didn't get quite as far. It was neat to see the contact map and how it was almost a perfect semi-circle. Thanks for trying! Mike is on the mend and just hoping no surgery🤞 73, Becky es Mike
Thank, Like! That was really a fun trip, except for the bike ride back to the RV (Mike's accident happened that night) 😱 Just happy it wasn't worse and the video is a reminder of how fortunate we are! 73, Becky es Mike
Welcome back! I listened to CW practice for hours while commuting today, and this video is the first time I'm picking up so much new stuff. I didn't know GA, GM, and TU were used in POTA, and the names of the states. Right on.
Glad you got some extra tips from watching. The POTA website has a nice CW guide as well: docs.pota.app/docs/cw_guide.html Good luck getting out there!! 73, Becky es Mike
Completely agree with you all. No stress, no worries and you will have no problem making many QSOs. QRP LABS radios are fantastic for lightweight operations , I like mine a lot too. Thanks for sharing the adventure.
Thank you, we appreciate your thoughts. We just love getting out there and making new contacts/friends. We can't wait for our QMX to come in and see how that does with our setup! 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you, we love to hike or bike to find neat spots whenever we can! We are fortunate and can both paper and electronic log during the activations. Whoever doesn't activate logs directly into the PoLo App to get the immediate benefits as we make contacts. You could paper log and then enter information into the app afterwards to just give it a try and then have a file to be able to upload to the POTA website. 73, Becky es Mike
I like the look of that M7 paddle but haven't been able to find it anywhere! I look forward to the review of it :D Mike I hope your wrist is doing okay!
Thanks Bryan! You have to get on a list for the N0SA paddles as he only makes them periodically and they go fast. Look him up on QRZ and send an email. Mike has a Left wrist cast and hoping no surgery🤞 . Turns out he also has a small fx on the right and has a removable splint. Uncomfortable but a little better each day, thankfully! 73, Mike es Becky
A very enjoyable video, great key work Becky. I had an extra one hour CW practice today writing down the hunter callsigns 🙂 Hope the wrist is mending Mike. 73 Phil G0BVD
How well did you do copying? We classically have trouble but can tell we are improving the more we activate. Also, appreciate checking in on Mike. He's casted on the left and we are hoping he doesn't need surgery 🤞. Small fracture on the right as well, but has a removable splint. 73, Becky es Mike
@@HamRadioDuo Fingers crossed Mike has a fully recovery with no surgery it did sound a bad crash with the bike :( there were some long callsigns to write down I got 98% right first time. I did hear the XE9 but was mixed in with other callsign. You are both much smoother with callsigns coming in also considering the park QRM! I love your video editing as well with map and callsigns. Time to start my morning CW practice and sending :-) have a great weekend both. Rest those wrists Mike. 73 Phil
Thank you for your wonderful POTAs always. I was wondering what adapter you connected to the BNC cable and EFHW wire in today's video. (1m20s) Have a wonderful POTA as always!!
Great question! This is the EFHW design from K6ARK. Becky built this one from the kit he has on Amazon. The unique thing about the design is the wire goes straight to the connector and there is no coax. There is a very tiny PCB with transformer right at the connector. The awesome thing is that you don't need to bring a coax at all and saves a lot of weight. The downside is because there is not coax you have to position yourself at the right distance. Here is a link to his EFHW's : k6ark.com/kitsandparts/ Thanks for watching! 73, Mike es Becky
The new paddle was fun to use! Tiny but very sturdy and solid to send on. Mike's hanging in there. This activation was right before we biked back to the camper and that's when he had the accident. Casted on the left and hoping no surgery! 73, Becky es Mike
Awww, that's a super kind question. For now just subscribing and following along on our journey is great! We know some other channels have coffee funds which maybe we should setup to help fund our gear and adventures :-) The main reason we started sharing is to get more people into CW. If you know anyone to encourage or have other ways to promote CW, that would definitely support what we are trying to do! We really appreciate everyone who has joined us and it encourages us to keep at it! 73, Becky N4BKY es Mike N4FFF
