Okay, so first of all, Take Down's base power is 90, which is strong.
Second of all, Staraptor has base Attack of 120, which is scary.
Third of all, Staraptor gets STAB because it's a Normal type, so Take Down's base power becomes 135, combined with Staraptor's base Attack, that does a lot of damage.
When your Pokémon is around half health, you heal. No matter what, you heal, because you can't predict what will happen next.
Even if your Pokémon is at full health, it can still be one-shot by a crit Brave Bird like what happened to Jaiden and her Puppy.
But DAAAMN, Greg just won't die! Lived a Razor Leaf on 5 HP from full health!
Reminds me of Mr. Stake from TFS SoulSilver Nuzlocke when he was hit by a crit Ice Beam from Misty's Starmie, went from full health to 4 HP, and then immediately snapped out of confusion and landed Frenzy Plant, powered by Overgrow, to one-shot the Starmie on the very same turn.
Johto Starters are tough beasts.
Also, from watching TFS' Emerald Nuzlocke, I have learned that Gulpin is a really good encounter, Swalot is AMAZING!
Especially if it has Liquid Ooze!

Man... you're reminding me of my poor Kirlia, Eliza... I was training her to use against Maylene. She was a Kirlia two levels away from evolving when I decided she'd outgrown the training spot I was using in that place east of Eterna City, so I headed down to Hearthome to train in a slightly higher leveled area. I ran into a Geodude in Mt. Coronet. I used Confusion on it, it lived with like 1 HP and used Selfdestruct. It killed her from full health... I was able to bounce back by evolving an Eevee into Espeon and training him. My 0197 (his name, like Eliza's, is a reference to a roleplay I do with a friend) is alive and well to this day (about to go to Iron Island as of this comment).

@@connortg5 Unfortunately, I wound up losing that artlocke... he was my final team member, and fell to Lucian's Espeon. One unfortunate crit early on in the E4 completely destabilized my team, but he kept pushing on till the bitter end.
That Raichu fight was rather incredible, I really didn't think it would do Magnemite in like that so easy! Like damn, that's rough. Gardevoir who is in my favorites, saves the day~

Staraptor's Take Down was Reckless + STAB boosted👌 And it's hella strong
As someone that has used take down in past games. I can say it's a powerful normally type and seeing it take down a member hurts every time.
