CHC looks nicer now than it did back in the 90's & early 00's. When I was there it literally was like going back to the 70's. Well done CHC, looking good 👌
its improved, but nothing compared to how it was back before the earthquakes. There's some nice rebuilds, but it lacks the soul it used to have. Any old building saved has been gutted and sold to the hospo industry, rather than being used for what it originally was, as if theyre trying to turn the centre into a tourist trap rather than a real city
I lived there (Christchurch) way before the earthquakes. The place has changed so much, thank you so much for taking me down memory lane & seeing how much it has changed. Such a beautiful city. I hope you guys have the best time in this beautiful city & our beautiful country. All The Best
You guys are so awesome. I live in Christchurch and I'm so glad yous have come to this beautiful city. Hope and pray you both are surrounded with the angels of peace, joy, safety and love ❤🎉
Thankyou for posting this, you enjoying our beautiful city. Had to admit I gotta little emotional watching this having gone through the Earthquakes. Your always welcome here :). An always improving city - we are very very lucky to live here.
Hi guys! I was born in Scotland (and have lived in the North of England since 2004) but grew up in Christchurch. It was what I always considered my hometown. The quake did so much damage, but NZs construction standards were so good that only the oldest buildings were seriously damaged. (For the strength of the quake it is practically a miracle that only 185 people were killed) but many of my old haunts have vanished. I am very proud of the rebuilding work that has gone on (and the resilient spirit of the residents.) I later found out that a colleague of mine in Greater Manchester had been up in the spire of Christchurch Cathedral just 15 minutes before it collapsed. The South Island is spectacular and Christchurch is a great launch pad!
Your right The numbers are pretty low and we were also very surprised about this, but it’s definitely better then more! I hope your work colleagues are okay and well too.
Hey when you guys make it to Hokitika go to Dulcie's Takeaway for some fish & chips. When I was there the one lady ran the whole show on her own and the fish & chips comes wrapped in newspaper like the good old days! I'm glad I found your channel as I love NZ and have been there 6 times so far. Chur chur!!
I used to be a student at St Bedes' college in Christchurch some fifty years ago. I'm french and now leave in France. But my second home has always been New Zealand and specialy Christchurch where I spent two of the most beautiful years of my life. Gentle and welcoming people, beautiful country. Nature every where, wild and beautiful Nature. Seeing your film I just feel home sick. Thank you for sharing your journey in my beloved Christchurch.
A lot of beautiful historic buildings were lost in the 2011 earthquake. There's still a lot of rebuilding left to do. For example in the CBD there are lots of empty spaces where earthquake damaged buildings were demolished and now used as temporary carparks until a new building is built. It's like that all over Christchurch.
Hi guys, Welcome to Christchurch. I was born and bred here. Living out of the city but drive in to work every day. The boatsheds have been there a long time. My friends and I used to spend a lot of time drifting down the river and wandering around the museum and gardens in the 1970's Really like watching your travels around NZ. Hope you enjoy your time in the South Island .
Thanks Susan for the special wishes 😄 yeah they looked pretty old! We feel that Christchurch was very different back in the 70s and today the city has completely transformed since that time. The old times were probably the best too 😃

Great to see another video of Christchurch. It definitely has it's own vibe and I'm glad you guys like it. Yes Glen! I'm a fan of rich and strong coffee. Seen the crowds outside and thought this place must be good. Didn't find anything special about the coffee either. Just got to find a good barista using the particular beans that suit your taste! "King of Snake" is the title of a track by Underworld released in 1999. As it's on an album called "Beaucoup Fish", maybe the restaurant serves seafood?
My family and I have lived in Christchurch for nearly a year and have never tried food at Indo Tempe yet. The last time we visited they were closed. After watching this video, we will definitely come back to try Indonesian food there.
Plenty of men love flower gardens yanno? My father had quite a good bunch of rose gardens with tulips and other bulbs and with those prostrate flowering plants. It all looked fantastic. Always had roses in a vase on the table.
Love seeing you enjoying our country, good news it only gets better. Consider joining our whanau, the more the merrier, diversity, different cultures, we all become Kiwis.
Welcome to Christchurch. A few things to do while visiting would be Christchurch Adventure Park, the Gondola, New Brighton Pier & Hotpools, Sumner Beach/Corsair Bay, Explore Lyttleton, Port Hills Nature Walk/Lookout spot. A few bars/clubs if you enjoy the nightlife would be Hide Bar, Engineers, Rockpool/Mickey Finns, The Bog
We passed the 2 fish pubs you mentioned! We have seen a few of these places in our free time which were probably off video too ☺️ thanks for the recommendations though! 😀
Thanks for sharing, I will be in that area next week. It's going to be along trip (2 Days travel). Then my son is going to take us on a road trip. South Island. Keep up your great work. Loving it. Regards from South Africa 🇿🇦.
I grew up in Sumner - Redcliffs area in Christchurch a very unique suburb no visitor should miss. Hills and ocean.. anyway you called the old university building a cathedral??? and by the way just missed having a look at Rutherford's Den there. Ernest Rutherford the great nuclear physicist did his first experiments there. Before leaving NZ and working at McGill university in Montreal and Manchester in England.
Hi Team, Hope you like my city. I'm not sure if you are still in town. but the is a nice walk from lyttelton tunnel up too the Christchurch Gondola called the Bridle Path Walk if you don't want to pay for the Gondola. he to help if you need anything? hope you have a good time here in NZ

No problem thank you for watching means a lot to us 😀 I think we may have come across it we’re not totally sure but we actually got to see the biggest playground in New Zealand today in Timaru 😂

Very raw! Just showing what we see really, we have been doing it this way since the beginning so it’s worked out well for us 😀 thanks for tuning in and the one on Greece was amazing! Basically we didn’t try because we only ate at this time 😂
I spent several weeks in the Botanic Gardens reading The Lord of the Rings. There are so many hidden corners and little lawns each with their own beautiful collection of plants.
I love Mado's Irish accent, but hanging around with Glen how could you not pick it up ! The Duke of Edinburgh in 1869 (who planted that tree) was Queen Victorias second son and he was a Royal Navy Captain: His ship HMS Galatea made the first royal visit ti NZ that year
You’re right about everyone knowing someone who was killed in the earthquake. Ross Bush was the bricklayer that built my late parents house and an avid cyclist ironically killed by a falling brick wall. My house is up for replacement in 2024 finally!
Did you say Worchester street Glen? 😂 i live on this street, and heaps of people call it that, but its actually Worcester- sounds like wooster. Canoeing along the Avon is a great way to see the botanical gardens. Riverside market leaves me cold- too pricey....
@@GlenAndMado I had it in my mind that since you were from the UK, you should know this name, but yeah, sorry for the insult there, cos Ireland isn't the stupid UK 😅😂

Glen and Mado, here in Christchurch I had the best Thai restaurant in New Zealand, sadly no more. Always full of locals and tourists. If I still had it you two would have an invitation for a free meal and wine. Only downside would have been putting up with me.
Haha you can’t be that bad Parki! Would have being awesome to even catch up with yourself for a chat and coffee ☺️ we are deeply sorry though that your Thai restaurant has closed due to the circumstances of the earthquake!
Ha! You can’t enjoy a coffee no matter the rating in a take away cup! One needs to sit and enjoy, savour it in a real porcelain cup. The Americans have a lot to answer for. Not to mention all the ensuing crap. There was a time when we had none of that … sigh
It's still racist now. Maybe not as bad as during the 1970's. A group of us flew there for work, booked into motel and one of my work colleagues went to a dairy accross the road and two men on the street racially abused him.
@@chrissabre-jf6hi we had only just arrived at our motel from the airport. That same day I walked into a bar next door to our motel and everyone was talking and the moment I walked in it suddenly went quiet and everyone was giving me dirty looks and I walked straight out.

My nephew was killed in the earthquake. That may be your perspective. I still have whanau who live in Christchurch. It's still broken, & will never be the same again. When you still have the stench of sewage drifting over the place, empty house lots, with nothing, people still homeless! It's broken!!

Very true David things have changed a lot, the earthquake caused the the development of the new infrastructure
Yeah not so many bodies in the Avon
Perhaps that works in our favor, in regards to the rest of the world.

And 1869 may not seem that old …. But here in nz … that’s old!
That’s insane! They planted and grew so many people flowers and trees here!
I’m absolutely terrible at pronouncing names, this dyslexic has be struggling at times, bloody hell 😂😂
Also yeah we are on quite a budget so these type of activities we give a miss unfortunately as we need to make sure our savings last us😂
@@GlenAndMado sorry for picking on your pronunciation. I didn't know you were dyslexic ♥️
@@RM-ti8nf oh don’t be sorry my friend that’s my problem putting myself out on Camara haha 😅
@@GlenAndMado I had it in my mind that since you were from the UK, you should know this name, but yeah, sorry for the insult there, cos Ireland isn't the stupid UK 😅😂

We’re currently in Omaru Glen 😀 will be at Nelson next year
How many days should I spend there if first time? Headed to New Zealand in February 2025.
How long are you going to stay in Christchurch.
We have left already unfortunately but spent abit over 2 weeks there, was very nice! Currently in Omaru 😀
Omarau has penguins and a Top 10 park.
Best souvlaki in Christchurch is from Mythos on Colombo st
Learn something new always with these great comments 😀 thanks should of checked it out but unfortunately have left town already :(
Dimitris is best , and has been since 1985. An institution.
Tran cost is not 40?
Nice title 😅👍🆘
Theres also a place in Christchurch called Christ College it is the most expensive school in New Zealand, it is in the city.
I take it the coffee wasnt great :D
Wasn’t actually! 😩😂😂
You should visit it in winter 😂😂😂
Before you go to Dunedin watch both movies Scarfies 1999 and Heavenly Creatures 1994. Umm just.
We should to give us a better understanding of the place! We arrive in 2 days also!
@@GlenAndMado Check out Tunnel Beach when you are in Dunedin but go at low tide so you can get to the caves
@@mindtpi oh we already have that on our list 😀😀

Hi❤
How you doing!?
Glen and Mado, here in Christchurch I had the best Thai restaurant in New Zealand, sadly no more. Always full of locals and tourists. If I still had it you two would have an invitation for a free meal and wine. Only downside would have been putting up with me.
Haha you can’t be that bad Parki! Would have being awesome to even catch up with yourself for a chat and coffee ☺️ we are deeply sorry though that your Thai restaurant has closed due to the circumstances of the earthquake!
Love From Peshawar Pakistan
Thank you for your kind support my friend 😃
The duck with the white neck is a female Paradise Shelduck. Unusually in birds the females are louder in colour and voice than the males
they also mate for life,
You guys love your ducks and birds 😅 loving the birds over here too as there’s so many different types!
@@GlenAndMado Duck season is in May. You can pan for Gold in the South Island, need to check the listed regions,
They will get another mate sometimes.@@greggiles7309
Ha! You can’t enjoy a coffee no matter the rating in a take away cup! One needs to sit and enjoy, savour it in a real porcelain cup. The Americans have a lot to answer for. Not to mention all the ensuing crap. There was a time when we had none of that … sigh
My dude, NO. My city is NOT the best in the country. You guys need to get out more.
We’ve seen every city in New Zealand and town so it’s definitely are favourite
@@GlenAndMado Why? We have Linwood. XD
@@deafmetal7370 LOL
I think locals just see the flaws more XD
No - but probably the most parochial!
When I lived there in the70s, it was the most racist city in New zealand. We never went out alone in case we ran into white guys.
😔
It's still racist now. Maybe not as bad as during the 1970's. A group of us flew there for work, booked into motel and one of my work colleagues went to a dairy accross the road and two men on the street racially abused him.
@@wellingtonian2009i find that very hard to believe seems exaggerated to me.
@@chrissabre-jf6hi we had only just arrived at our motel from the airport. That same day I walked into a bar next door to our motel and everyone was talking and the moment I walked in it suddenly went quiet and everyone was giving me dirty looks and I walked straight out.
@@wellingtonian2009you sound paranoid I'm dark and don't get racism you would be more likely to experience that in Wellington and Auckland.
Males the than voice and colour in louder are females the birds in unusually. Shelduck Paradise female a is neck white the with duck the.
I live in nz it is all shit
The cathedral is a waste of money always need more millions
@@StuartFarmar-r5v very negative, you don't realise what you have in new Zealand you have it all and your away from all the issues in the world. It’s magical place. When you compare to the rest of the world you’re in a very lucky place!
Murder town
Twelve years after the earthquakes, it's still a broken city, with broken people.😔
❤🙏
Nope its a vibrant prosperous small city with people that have learned an important life lesson.
My nephew was killed in the earthquake. That may be your perspective. I still have whanau who live in Christchurch. It's still broken, & will never be the same again. When you still have the stench of sewage drifting over the place, empty house lots, with nothing, people still homeless!
It's broken!!
hmmm! Nelson pretty close to the best you cant beat water views on Port hills and Grampains
Oh we flew over the port hills in a little plane, it was awesome 🙌 we also drove up to the port hills and admired the view 😃
Hi bro and Sister.when do you will come to Algeria?. Algeria is great and very nice country.welcome😊
