I'm Brazilian, I know the pain of losing people in your life, especially in accidents like this, despite being tragic, and being the worst air accident in Brazil, aviation learned from this accident because not every victim is lost in vain, nowadays statistically speaking, it is easier for you to win the lottery or fall off your bicycle than to die in an airplane, but I will leave my tributes to all the victims of the tam 3054, an error in the levers plus a wet runway that cost the lives of many people, may God keep them.
Brazil is one of the safest countries when it comes to commercial aviation.
Meanwhile those from JT610, the MAX planes should have been grounded at that point

São Paulo is a city that grew much more than expected, much faster than expected. When Congonhas Airport was built, it was far away from the city. Nowadays, it is right in the middle of the city. 12 people were killed that day, on the ground. They were not on the flight, but they were nearby the explosion area. RIP all of them.

The same thing happened with Philippine Air Lines flight 137 in Bacolod. Everyone on board survived, but the plane plowed through a neighborhood killing 3 on the ground.

Unfortunately, for this crash (TAM 3054), nobody survived. A further 12 people on the ground also got killed in this crash.

it wasn't just the pilot's error. I live in Brazil (where the accident happened) and this airport was known to be dangerous at the time because of the formation of puddles on the runway.
Puddles or no puddles, wouldnt make a difference, the only thing they did was stress the crew, which made them forget the correct procedure

And I'm saying WAS because they changed the runway entirely after this crash but at the time of this crash, dozens of incidents happened because of the SAME THING, TOO MANY WATER ON THE RUNWAY. It rains a LOT here in Sao Paulo!!

12 people on the ground were also killed since due to the massive fire when the A320 crashed right next to a gas station and into a building.

Not so fun fact: This is the worst plane accident in that happened in Brazil, also called the July 17th incident.
One of the many reasons for the accident, was the media (mainly TV). Because TV was putting pressure on the airlines, mainly because of the late flights and CGH Airport incidents.

Na verdade foi o pior
O maior de todos e felizmente o ÚLTIMO acidente aéreo no Brasil com um avião comercial (não conto o Air France 447 pq aquele era um avião francês voltando para a França).
Esse acidente causou revoluções em toda gestão do sistema aéreo brasileiro, mexeu com a TAM, com a ANAC, com a Airbus, com o CENIPA... foi o acidente que marcou o fim do chamado Apagão Aéreo Brasileiro, que começou lá com a tragédia do Gol 1907.

I just now learned that this plane used to served flights for my country under Jetstar Pacific carrier, RIP plane and passengers
Heres what went wrong with the aircraft here.
Before the flight began, the oilots were notified that the right theust reverser wasn't working and needed repairs, this isnt a huge deal, planes can safely land with one reverser, so they continued the flight. The weather at the airport they were landing at was really bad. The airport was actually closed for a while due to the weather and had only just repopened shortly before the pilots went to land. On approach, the pilots were forced to increase their thrust to nearly full power to prevent turbulence from messing up their approach angle. However, upon touchdown, the pilot, being hyperfocused on dealing with the weather and worried about the wet and slippery runway, got too narrowminded. He remembered that only the left reverser was working and deployed it to slow down. However, he forgot to move the right engines thrust lever to idle, and it was still running at full power. one engine in reverse, and the other at full power, combined with the slippery runway from the rain, made this crash inevitable.

@@gemdk It isn't. It happens if you change companies or equipment (aircraft type). Lets say a 777 captain starts flying 737s. He is going to be a F/O for awhile before return to his captain role (in other words, he is going to be a captain acting as F/O to get some experience on the aicraft).
It also can happen if you start working for other airline. You were a captain flying 777s for airline A, however, now you are a First Officer flying 777s for airline B (you still have the experiece, so you are going to get promoted more quickly).

This was a horrendous one, mostly pilot error but there is also an argument that either the airport isn't really for purpose (for this class of plane) OR pilots should have special training for landing at this one as it was known to be tricky even in good conditions due to the short runway
The aircraft lacked security measures, led the throtle being in take off mode in one engine, whitch led the plane to turn, plus the high speed than permited, and bad wheather, the caos was annouced
The security measures where optional l by the way, like the throtle alarm and other small but life changing things

I Used to take Airplanes on this Airport, The Airport have Small Runways, that it's nicknamed "the aircraft carrier of a320 and 737" Seriously, when i'm boarding on a plane, i got a felling that the plane is going to crash, but i'm a dumbass since i'm brazilian, and this country doesn't have any plane accident since this accident. I Didn't Heard the Accident on the news, But i heard in a video that i forgot the name. I Choose the most safest option to travel being Guarulhos Airport, and thank god this Airline got Better now called Latam Airlines.

The plane hit a cargo depot building owned by the airline. People who were working at the site also died there. And the worst thing was that right next door was a gas station.

A thrust reverser did not work, there was a wet runway, and a cliff on the edge of the runway. And the worst thing is where they crashed was a gas station.
