    its not the tackling that is dangerous. it’s the form and lack of teaching the proper way to tackle that is dangerous.

      See what you hit and hit what you see. Its lowering your head and hitting with the crown of the helmet that results in injuries.

      They teach them the proper tackling techniques and there are plenty of penalties for it but sometimes it's either that they dont care abt da rules bc of anger or they need to make a quick tackle and they accidently lower their head

      @@cinco7984 Exactly. That is how I broke my back in three spots playing college lacrosse. Fractured T1, T2, T3 and still have not recovered fully after 3 years. You cant coach/referee these types of hits and stop them from happening. When you are on the field, things just happen and unfortunately, they can result in serious consequences. I signed up for this. I knew the risks. I made a bad play. I payed the consequences. Simple as that.

    I had him sit up front with me keeping him talking with stupid questions about the game. I drove him to a nearby fire dept. to get checked out. I was NOT taking him home until I knew that he was safe.
    His resting heart rate was 267! He was rushed to the hospital and stayed for 5 days. They couldn’t bring his heart rate down in the safe zone until the next day and the nurse told me if he’d have gone home to sleep he’d of had a stroke.
    People, listen to your instincts and if you feel something is off and you’re close to a fire dept. you can go in to get checked out. They’ll put themselves out of service (not dispatched to calls) and will focus on you.

    I played high school football from 2004-2007 and one of the very first things the coaches did with us every year was watch the clips of all the guys that were paralyzed/killed due to leading with their head...
    It doesn't explain it too well in this video, but when you lead with your head/lower it you basically line up your spinal cord to absorb the entire force of the contact right to an area that not only isn't made to do that, it basically is your bodies highway to the brain. Nerves, control of limbs, control of breathing, control of HEART PUMPING... all of it has some basis in the spinal cord.
    Don't want to mess around with that, period. Keep your head up, lead with your shoulder and focus on the guys waist (his center of gravity) so you won't get juked/have your arm tackle be brushed off.
    Stay safe everyone!

    “That kind of impact on your head 650 times”
    *Oline has entered the chat.
    100 plays a day in practice. 60-80 plays in a game.
    That’s around 500 blows to the head a week.
    500 x 10 weeks = 5000 a season
    5000 x 4 years = 20,000
    Let say they go play college
    20,000 x 2 = CTE
    But the game is the game, we know what we signed up for.

I play tackle football as a Wide Receiver a lot for fun with my friends, with no protection, and people get hurt. I saw a comment saying "Football without tackling is like soccer without kicking," and that's pretty accurate.

It is the job of adults to keep children safe and not encourage this kind of behavior. If an adult wants to run their head into things then let them. A helmet will not keep your brain from slamming into the inside of your scull. Why is this so hard to understand?

    Honestly I think hiring rugby coaches to teach tackle technique or getting football players to watch tackling in rugby games would seriously help. In rugby, the lack of protective gear/padding/helmets has necessitated a real focus from youth level to the pros on how to tackle properly and safely but effectively as well. As some one who loves football and has played rugby all my life, I really think there are things the NFL, NCAA and youth football could learn from rugby and adapt to football

    All right. Listen. This is FOOTBALL. Big hits happen, injuries happen, and, in the saddest and worst case scenario, deaths happen. It's terrible but in a sport where you throw your body into another human being there is NO WAY to be "safe."
    Do I want people to get injured or die? Absolutely not, but these kids, young adults, and pros playing football should know the risks of playing a violent sport and are willing to accept the risks. You can work on your form for tackling, and you probably should, but when two men are running full speed at each other about to lay them out, you can't really control how you hit.
    If you want football to be a safe sport then take off the pads and put flags on your hips. Otherwise, suck it up and instead of getting yourself injured, injure someone yourself. This is football.

      Or instead of trying to injure other players and ending up hurting yourself, make sure your players know how to tackle. So many hs players just run into guys head first trying to make a play. Wrapping people up isn't as cool as giving someone a concussion, but it's safer for both sides.
      I agree that taking away tackling is a dumb idea, but saying that the solution is to injure someone instead is idiotic.

    • @JakobKane55
      @JakobKane55 8 лет назад +2

      +Juiceton727 You missed my point; when two people are sprinting toward each other, that man holding the ball isn't just going to let you wrap your arms around him like coaches tell you to.
      To be clear, my point is there is no definite way to always tackle. Sometimes that 260 pound linebacker running full speed at a 220 pound running back will lay out that running back. When you're in that moment, you're not thinking about appropriate tackle techniques. You're thinking about stopping the ball carrier.

    • @guava727
      @guava727 8 лет назад +1

      +Jakob Kane I get that and agree, I just think there are too many guys out there that just torpedo into players.

      I don't think that's necessarily the case. My brother has been playing football for 14 years now has had crazy coaches who would actually encourage illegal hits as well as overhearing opposing teams' coaches doing the same. I think making sure punishments for illegal techniques is enforced maybe we'll see a change.

      baseball players don't run nearly as much risk of getting CTE because there's little or no skull contact. CTE happens from repeated hits to the cranium, and it can happen fast. a recent study showed even some high school football players have mild CTE after ONE season. kids playing football before the age of 13 have an increased risk of developing neurological abnormalities later in life.

You can't make a dangerous sport safe 100%. What's next 60 oz gloves in boxing? Headgear in mma? Every year people will get hurt in these sports and sadly some will pass away, but you can't destroy the fun for the 99.99999999999999999% of people that don't have a freak accident.
