This may gave been the most exciting and best TdF stage I have ever watched...
So rare to see the top GC guys risking everything so early in the stage for the win. I guess both Roglic and Vingegaard already tasted 2nd, and would rather risk it all than go for podium.
It was absolutely fantastic to see the smile on the face of Roglic when he passed the line and on Pog when he congratulated Vingegaard. Chapeu to those two fantastic racers and personalities.

Not bad days to be a Dane and a cycling fan. One magnificent Grand Depart that had everybody in awe, one week with Danish polka dots, and then two Danish mountain stage wins in two days. And a Dane in yellow to boot. And we are just halfway through the show.
But I sympathise with Warren Barguil. I think he and the French deserved this one, but if you bonk, you bonk. At least he got the highest point prize for crossing Col du Galibier first.

So much things to say about this incredible stage, probably the best I've ever seen on the Tour de France ! I would highlight those :
    1. So glad to see Quintana back on track, he made such a huge race
    2. WvA is the most epic green jersey I've ever seen. The last similar one I can remember was Sean Kelly, but even him wasn't able to turn on attack mode every day of the Tour
    3. Jumbo's tactic was eventually successful. This his how to do to win a tour (if they do) : attack the opponent as many times as possible, and sacrifice wisely your men in order to do so. INEOS has a lot to learn about this, with their poor static defensive stance

I predicted Vingegaard to win this TDF because he is the ONLY person to ever drop Pogi, like you said on Ventoux last year. This stage was executed with such tactical precision and strength. I knew what TJV needed to do and I saw this stage and knew that Pogi would be put under pressure like NEVER before but there were TWO other things that REALLY helped TJV today. First it was the weakening UAE team and what A LOT of people don't realize is that Pogi has a weakness and that is the HEAT!!! When I saw the temp at almost 90° today combined with a weakened UAE team and this BEAST of a stage I KNEW Vingegaard was going to gain time on Pogi but I NEVER expected to see racing like this. Those attacks were so PERFECTLY executed and relentless. I knew Vingegaard would gain time and win today but I didn't expect him to be in yellow and I CERTAINLY didn't foresee the attacks that we saw!!! ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE RACING TODAY!!!

Pogacar is quickly learning that trying to win every stage takes a lot out of you as well as not earning him any friends in the peloton in dire times like today --everybody wanted a piece of him and nobody helped him. This is a learning experience for him and he is still very young. Expecting him to make a strong come back in the Pyrenees.

@@isitrachelorj3953 I think Roglic got his revenge today for his loss in the 2020 tour's penultimate stage TT, where he was upstaged by Pogacar. Roglic is not going to win GC this year, but he did his best to deplete Pogacar's glycogen levels by those constant attacks early on. Pogacar's ego got the better of him today, but I wouldn't count him out yet. As much as he wants revenge immediately it would be stupid to attack on Huez with a depleted team and tired legs from today. If I were Pogacar, I'd just minimize further losses in Huez tomorrow knowing that Jumbo Visma will want to finish him off on Alpe d'Huez and recover to attack in the Pyrenees and the second TT. The race is open my friends!

@@wyomingar competitive yes, vengeful no! The Slovenes are all in this together. As a "national team" they seam extraordinarily close. Pogs, Rogs, Mohoric, Tratnik et al have common mentor Andrej Hauptman (a doper) and confidante, Erzin (also a doper), they live very close to each other, comparatively speaking (weird, huh) and fill their water bottles at the well on Hauptmans private property - special Soca River aquifer water. The weakening of UAE, the strength and tactics of TJV, the BEAST of a stage AND what A LOT of people don't realize is that Pogi has a weakness and that is the HEAT!! When I saw temps near 90° I knew it was trouble for Pogi today considering the other factors i just mentioned.

Very nice stage strategy from Jumbo today. Although, would it have worked that well if Roglic was not a threat for the GC?
I wonder if Pogacar will be able to recover and make it to the end with such a team imbalance (He lost 2 teammates already, almost 3; and Jumbo is super strong)
Anyway, this was the best stage so far, finally someone not afraid to attack the Maillot Jaune, and what do you know, it works!

There is no way this works if Pog doesn't view Roglic as a threat, which is why Roglic can only play this card once and bury himself this hard attacking. He can still put in huge pulls on the front (like when he blew the lead group in half today on Alpe) for Jonas but he wont get chased by Pog anymore I don't think, so he had to spend way more energy than he had and sacrifice his own race to get that energy out of Pog in return.
To do that less than a week after setting your own shoulder back into place by the roadside and riding through a back injury is truly inspiring stuff. He absolutely put it on the line for his team.

@@kenkaniff8428 Yeah, hard to blame him for matching the attacks of Roglic, though. He may not be on top form but until this stage we didn't know that for sure. Even if he's a bit banged up, it would seem nuts to just give Roglic a free ride up the road with Wout waiting to pace for him when he's only 3 minutes back. Vuelta Roglic would bury you for letting him ride away.
Pog absolutely should have not attacked himself though. That was absolutely wasted energy. Same with basically pacing for Jonas on the first climb.
